Yacht Club Games' crazy platforming adventure about a Knight and his shovel reached its Kickstarter funding goal halfway through its campaign on March 30, 2013. The game is scheduled to arrive on Windows, Linux, Mac along with the 3DS and Wii U eShops. Jake "Virt" Kaufman is handling the majority of the music. Even before the Kickstarter campaign was over, Yacht Club Games announced that original Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae would be contributing two songs to Shovel Knight. The Kickstarter campaign ended with total contributions of $311,502 (the original goal was set at a mere $75,000) and in fact, every single stretch goal was hit. YCG said that stretch goal-features would probably be added to the game post-release via free updates since their targeted September release was already rapidly approaching.
The fearless Shovel Knight has no weapon aside from his trusty shovel which he uses to dig for treasure, lump boulders at enemies or safely jump on otherwise foes and across deadly chasms. On his quest to reach his nemesis, Shovel Knight must travel through woods, volcanoes, across the sea and over mountains and there are even airships.
Yacht Club Games first showed off the game to visitors at PAX East 2013.
New Game Plus
No specifics have been confirmed. The current plan is to include more difficult enemy encounters and possibly some new twists in the level design.
Challenge Mode will ask the player to complete a specific task such as defeating all enemies or collecting all gems.
Gender Swap Mode
Currently, Yacht Club Games wants to swap the gender of all major characters (Shovel Knight, The Enchantress, The Order of No Quarter) but no enemies.
No specifics have been announced other than that it will be for up to four players and local play only. Possible scenarios might include Cash Collecting mode that has players compete to hit each other in order for them to drop gems, a Race mode in which players would try to make it to the end of a stage the fastest and Last Man Standing.
