Would love to see a Streets of Rage or Golden Axe TitR. This one is a bit meh.

I enjoy the fact that the video player for this does not show the progress bar.

The more episodes box however does spoil the length of videos...

Only advice I can think of is doing a quick warm-up run through the first level before recording The Run.

Seems like they can't deal with running a strategy that doesn't involve finding the safe spot and spamming one attack. The orb gator doesn't require that much strategy, just a little evasion.

Someone needs to sample Vinny saying "crouch punch" and use it in a fighting game for the next Giant ROM.

This is actually a feature of the Giant Bomb QoL browser extension, not something the site does by default. I thought I had gotten timestamps to hide in the carousel under TITR videos, but apparently it's not working.

it is so bad, this game is so awful, it has so little art so little effort they put into it to make it. Ugh this game sucks.

The QoL extention works so well I often forget i'm using it.

Also, thank you for your work on the browser extension. It has helped me so much with remembering to show up on time for live streams.

I run the latest chrome on win10 with AdBlock, GB QoL, Google mail Checker, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, Reddit Enhancement Suite, Tampermonkey, and The great Suspender.

So it could be something on my end causing a conflict.

And again, thanks for all your hard work.

Illustrated using arcade gifs, but: there are extra, "transformation" frames for the wolf transformation but not for any of the other transformations.

The best part about this is going to be when they see the meta, shitball ending. It's going to make this aaaaall worth it.

The enemies aren't randomized, but do stall based on your proximity to them. So you don't have to be surprised every time by that yellow dude who punches a lot in the bear-level, who appears right after the blue donkey. :P

Anyway, this has been way more fun to watch than I expected.

I've been futzing around a bit with the 4th-level boss using the Steam version and level select, and it seems that the best strategy is:

a) Position yourself in front of (i.e. overlapping) the big pillar in the foreground.
b) Stay kneeling and punch as your default attack, as Vinny & Dan were doing.
c) Use the up-down move to take out dragons when safe & necessary AND to attack the boss when it's at the top of the screen. You might have to fool around a bit with exact position so you don't get hit by the boss, but there is a range where your up-down will hit the boss but the boss won't contact-hit you. You can win using just the punch, but the up-down attack is significantly more powerful and speeds things up considerly if properly used.

Also, the "big pillar" location doesn't hold if you mess up and miss THE JUICE, since the background will be different by the time you get another chance at the boss. You can still use this strategy, but you'll have to experiment with proper position. You want to hit the boss with up-down when it's at the top of the screen, since that's also when it's as leftward on the screen as it gets.

Im starting to think that maybe this game has enver been good. Or even competent.

Wait, why did they stop doing the early transformation? Seems all-around better than waiting longer for either to transform.

So they used continues in the Contra run, so why don't they use the continue trick in this game? Just sayin'. After your last life, when the funky music is playing, you press A+Start

How can it take 5 episodes to beat Altered Beast

Sadly, that ending is arcade only.

It's kinda different between when you have to use a code versus when the game explicitly gives you them in a menu option.

You guys are on the cusp, this is some very high level Altered Beast gameplay.

Altered Beast is truly terrible and always has been.

For the Bear boss fight, you need to be out-of-sync but in-rhythm.

This fucking game. Hopefully it will be "the run" soon rather than later.

It takes more than 5 episodes, actually.

I still reallllly think one player should get the first three orbs and go beast mode then keep the screen wiped while the other person catches up. I don't see a benefit to holding off!
