If you're forced to do guests, it would be nice if you at least mixed it up a bit scoops. I feel like it's been a couple times this summer with Alexa already.

Hmm I don't mean to be disrespectful (and I think Alexa is ok), but I'm inclined to call BS on her P.T. play ( Not saying she is straight up lying, maybe she's confused)... Even if the last section of the teaser was super obtuse, the previous "puzzle loops" were pretty structured and straight forward, so I'd say she seems to have just played very isolated sections of it, or something like that.

In general, it pretty clearly goes:

(initial loop > bathroom > Lisa attack (avoidable) > Red light hanging fridge > redfastforward > Computerlike crash > final Loop (multicolor flashlight, bell tolls) > phone > End teaser) Even in subsequent completions, I don't think its possible to go straight to the ending from being attacked; skip any part; or get any other order or permutation... so yeah... I'm calling the bluff.

Other than that though, great conversation, I find it really funny that Jeff kinda hated the Akiba's trip localization, while she loved it ( I'm probably with Alexa on this one), however.. noone really defends the game haha.

PS: Alexa is such a Resident Evil name, very cool :P

Alexa's awesome. Hopefully she can make an appearance sometime around Shadow of Mordor's release; I'm super curious to see how devout Tolkien fans react to that game.

Watching people playing P.T. is like watching Pigeons in a Skinner box where the rewards are completely random and not related to what the bird actually does. They go craaaazy with superstition =P

I had to end up using a guide for help by the last third of the Divinity too.

Especially for stuff like secret walls that are opened up from some very small button that blends in with the walls. That and when I got to the last temple and it turns out I needed to collect every stone from before. I couldn't remember which ones I got and what ones I missed and I really didn't want to run through the entire game world again to search for them.

Damnit, my heart skipped a beat when seeing that image from SH2, I was hoping of some sort of playthrough :'(

Patrick, if you haven't played dragon age origins you haven't played one of the best rpgs of all time.

I still consider it biowares best game. Three playthroughs of it I went through, all of them unique in many ways.

It came with a yellow controller. It was great before you even started it up!

What? I didn't have one that came with a controller!! I know the cart was yellow, and it had the expansion pack (which was only because of a game breaking bug, not because it actually used it).

@mooseymcman: Maybe I'm wrong and that came with something else. Or in my mind as a kid they all went together.

I disagree. Using people we're already familiar with removes a lot of the anxiety I get when guests come on. Also, Alexa is awesome.

Donkey Kong 64 is fine. Donkey Kong 64 is the worst of Rare's N64 platformers.

@sydlanel: I don't know.... my playthrough of PT (which I admittedly quit before the ending due to scaredy-pants syndrome) unfolded in a completely different order than you describe, and how Patrick's playthrough went. There seems to be some sort of randomness to the events in PT.

Not that I even disagree with that statement, it's just symptomatic of how quickly he usually dismisses games and creators because of stuff he's read on twitter and message boards.

The funny thing is, I realized it was Silent Hill due to the red lights after sirens, bells, or beeps go off, and the ghosts creating static on the radio. I just hope the full game isn't in first person, otherwise the setting seemed correct for the game. Did anyone else think the voice on the radio felt a lot like the gameshow in the elevator in SH2?

@whitegreyblack: believe me (or look it up here or here or here or anywhere), the big events required to finish it, don't change order.

There is some small variation of the order of minor events within sections, and some others can be completed throughout the game ( like collecting picture pieces ), but it doesn't alter the complete sequence.

the best thing about DK64 is the hilarious glitches. other than that a pretty trite game.

I dont know about that. Does Jet Force count as a platformer? It wasn't a bad game, but DK was better.

Really excited for Silent Hills and I spent a good portion of this weekend dissecting the gameplay and what this could mean for the story. I do hope they keep some of the game first person. It makes it far more terrifying.

I missed what the vampire game was but it sounds like some shitty shit game.

@patrickklepek Dragon Age II isn't bad, you can just see everywhere that the game was rushed, and the story falls apart by the end. It's more that the game wasn't as good as the first one than it being out and out a bad game.

"Gamer cred" is the dumbest thing in the world. It's like being proud of your movie knowledge, or your extensive knowledge about Shakespeare. It's all so niche that the most important thing is that you enjoy yourself. You won't get slammed for consulting some critiques of Shakespeare's works and then talking to other Shakespeare enthusiasts with that additional knowledge...

Can't believe @patrick said DK 64 was a bad game, and said it so disparagingly, especially immediately after admitting he didn't actually play it. I knew I wasn't wrong to have loved that game when I was younger and lo and behold it got great reviews. I'd imagine that like a lot of early 3D games it doesn't hold up very well (Goldeneye I'm looking at you) but obviously you can't let that detract from it's original prowess.

Patrick I need to visit your apartment and organize those shelves on the wall behind you. The willy nilly way in which you have tossed things in as if the shelves were a laundry hamper and the items your soiled clothing.... i cannot tolerate.

Gaddamn I want Fatal Frame V so bad. Keep being our champion, Patrick. Bug Bill Trinen, even if he doesn't get a say. he can pass along the message. Sony has Silent Hills and Until Dawn coming. PS4 and Xbone have Alien and Evil Within. Nintendo needs their own entry into this booming genre.

I totally forgot that Jet Force Gemini was a video game that existed and was developed by Rareware. I know that game had a bajillion collectibles, but wasn't it more of a shooter?

They're brand-new. I haven't had time to sort 'em, and I dumped everything in there to get stuff off the ground. Believe me, it bothers the shit out of me, too.
