Great stream. I'm glad I was able to see the end of the game, because I gave up on beating False King a long time ago.

Watching this has me excited to play Dark Souls. Though from afar, it seems a bit more fantastical and less pensive than Demon's? That might be disappointing.

"I'm getting slightly aroused over here" -Brad Shoemaker

a good example of how a lust for souls will corrupt your own soul.

This was fun to watch, thanks for the great run!

I do wish Brad would be more adventurous and try out the invading stuff (I assume that's what the last red marker-thing was at the end?). I would've liked to know what that was about, and it might have been a fun way to cap off the sort of anti-climactic ending to the game.

Anti climatic but a good job nonetheless Brad. The path of a true wizard, at least in DnD, should always be boundless knowledge over saving the world. Basically you made the wrong choice as a wizard. I'm waiting for someone to make a True Wizard show with Sage Freke and Floogan trying to track down Yurt.

Brad should've just quit out of the game when that fucking moron invaded or turned it off. Don't give the satisfaction.

Watching the fight drag on, and on , and on and Brad waste items was awful.

@brad It's unusual that people prefer Demon's Souls over Dark Souls in my experience, and usually it's people waxing weirdly nostalgic about a game that came out in 2009 for some reason. Dark Souls is better in every conceivable way, from the variety and fair challenge of the areas and bosses, the upgradeable armor and loads more loot, the removal of ridiculous limitations like halving HP, world tendency and item load, and it's much more viable to play the game in a variety of different ways. I found it longer, more properly challenging, and more interesting and fun. You should definitely go back and visit it at some point since the early areas (Undead Burg/Blighttown) are the least interesting ones, at least when comparing it to the whole game of Demon's Souls which had a couple of memorable levels.

Also, Dark Souls II is pretty rad so far, and I can understand arguments about DS 1 vs DS 2 on either side at this point. Demon's apologists are a little nuts though.

@brad: Just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me to finish the game after like 4 years, and giving me a new found appreciation for the Souls series! It really sucks to still be seeing these Brad is bad at games types at it still when you did an incredible job under the pressure of streaming to thousands and you barely taking the easy way out.

When Brad says, "Maybe I'll go back to it" or "maybe I'll play it a bit more"... he won't. He says this in a lot of Bombcasts, which is a clear indicator that the game doesn't grab him, and it's the last he's played of it.

Watched/listened to this entire series twice now and, because of it, finally started playing the game myself!

Congrats on finishing this bastard of a game. Not sure yet if I'll make it that far myself... Oh, and for the love of the Sun, don't let the negativity get to you. I'm quite certain the large majority of us enjoyed this without any weirdly inappropriate rage over playing video games 'the right way'.

Thanks @brad and @vinny

I'm one who does lean toward Demon's Souls to Dark Souls, but I will admit that a lot of the mechanics were improved in Dark Souls. What does it for me is the atmosphere Demon's Souls invokes for me. In the end, the entirety of Demon's Souls is the world's longest storming of a castle, but in order to storm that castle you have to go through areas that invoke pure desolation - again, this is my personal reaction to it. Those poor bastards working in the mine tunnels, the Tower of Latria or whatever in its entirety, the couple at the bottom of the swamp. I would never discount anyone that prefers Dark Souls 1 or 2 to Demon's Souls because there are clear arguments to be made, but for me personally, I really responded to the setting in Demon's Souls a bit more than either Dark Souls game.

Never ceases to amaze me that, despite the fact that they ALWAYS complete the games, people scream about how "wrong" the staff plays. Through all 3 Endurance Runs all the way up to these, and I think it's got something to do with the fact that a LOT of these games aren't as complicated as we like to think they are and that creates a certain level of dissonance that expresses itself through hostility.

GG, Brad. GG.

@lackingsaint: Stacking regen buffs and spamming acid/death/poison cloud isn't cool, but players like him were a dime a dozen when Demon's Souls was new, and if it weren't for him, Brad wouldn't have gotten to see where the true Demon's Souls starts.

Also, Vinny said it a few videos ago, but if he really wanted to avoid invasions, all he had to do was jump off a cliff.

Dark Souls clearly improves upon Demon's Souls in most respects and is generally balanced a lot better (I hate the existence of the sword Brad got, it's way too easy to get and it makes it inefficient to try anything else), but to me, Demon's Souls still has the better atmosphere and story. While the ending is still fairly obtuse, I actually sort of understood what was going on even without poring over the lore very much.

Also, I love the Nexus; such a beautifully designed place of tranquility. I was kinda bummed that Dark Souls lacked an equivalent.

Brad's complete fear of Magic and Magic Identity while having a 30 magic stat and sword that scales to magic is the throughline to this whole playthrough.

2 years late to this but you put it really well. The Maiden in Black, seeing the knights of the kings turned into Demon's and having to fight them one by one, a Lovecraftian God at the center of it... it's really fucking cool. It's like a total perversion and fall of a Kingdom into madness and it does it really well.

And it was the originator. They also did yes refine some things after but there are some ideas in Demon's Souls that were done in a better and braver and more unique way which is cool. It's funny how dumb the fight was in Brad's playthrough but the Old Monk fight, letting a player PvP as a boss, is pretty crazy as a concept and can be really challenging and fun.

I know it's like 4 years late but I finally went back and watched this in full, and it was both delightful and kind of gruelling.

I don't think I've watched Brad play a game for an extended period of time and this one has frustrated me in some ways. The replies on the various videos have driven home those frustrations but man what especially got me was 1. insisting on using lock-on even in tight corridors and narrow ledges, and 2. the intense and irrational focus on lizards.

I was smiling to myself in the last video where Brad was sneaking up on the lizard with a wand at the ready ...and the warding spell equipped, he is so laser focused he can't even read what spell he has equipped (furthermore it has been demonstrated through this entire video series that soul ray proved pretty much useless in killing lizards, yet Brad insists).

It's a very different beast watching Brad play a souls game than when Vinny tidied up his Dark Souls save; sure Vinny might've tanked every boss with a haphazard build he forgot about for years, but it was entertaining because it was bold and brash, while Brad constantly second guesses himself and fumes about relatively insignificant stumbles.

Everything aside it's been an interesting time to see the contrast, and to re-experience Demon's Souls through the eyes of Brad and Vinny. I've revisited it myself recently because of this feature and it's been lot of fun even though the servers are shut down.

This game would benefit a remake more than Dark Souls since it's quite a bit more rough around the edges and a server rejuvenation would be welcome. I mean, Demon's Souls on the ps4 using the Dualshock 4 with spruced up textures, models, and 60fps? sign me up.
