There is no situation which shall slow the Endurance Run to a halt.

"Defensive power up when attacked... I really don't know what that means..."

Okay, now I know they're just trolling the commenters.

The Endurance Run really tests my patience some time, sounds like Patrick and Ryan are doing something else while playing and not actually looking at the sceen. Well, they've pushed me to go out and buy Chrono Trigger myself on the DS :P

I swear sometimes they're retarded. If it says "defense up" twice, and "defense down" once after electricity attack, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why attack damage keeps going down!

Still an enjoyable ER though, but geez.

I enjoy the pace of this game. Magus and Azala are both very nice, last boss-like enemies, and you fight them so close to one another.

Also, these bosses are much more interesting than the Persona 4 bosses, which just took forever, or the bosses of the third Golden Sun game which I'm plowing through now. can you guys recommend any RPGs with equally varied patterns and tricks for their enemies? I appreciate you can just power through the Chrono Trigger bosses if you don't get what their trick is, but I like them a lot more than bosses who just have a lot of HP and deal a ot of damage.

I can't count how many times I was yelling for them to use Volt Bite. Whatever though, at least they are managing to still make progress, and the show's still great. But MAN, they are not awesome at this game.

I like how they outright ignored Volt Bite until using it on accident. It would have made both boss fights way easier.

Their lack of use of Volt Bite makes me sad. Love that attack and it kicks some dino ass.

Their lack of reading comprehension is also... troubling. I understand from their capture setup reading is hard. But man do they miss so many messages that tell them exactly what's going on while they act bewildered.

Don't be fooled by the way they're playing. There isn't THAT much variety to how you approach the bosses here. They keep thinking that different physical attacks had different properties when all you really have to do is the newest one. That's why they only figured out that Volt Bite was a better option when Ryan picked it by accident. Still though, I agree that the pacing in this game is fantastic. It's one of the strengths of the game. It moves crazy fast from the Magus battle and on with just about 0 filler nonsense.

As far as recommendations go, Super Mario RPG for SNES is a all time classic IMO. Good variety on boss fights, good humor, and good music.

I know Chrono trigger is an easy game, but watching Ryan play so inefficiently is painful. Mix that with Patrick actively giving him bad/completely wrong advice and I'm amazed they continue to make progress everyday. But despite all that, watching them eventually get it right reminds me of how I probably played this game the first time through. Once they realize how powerful double and triple techs are the game will become even easier and hopefully they will enjoy it even more.

Please Ryan for the love of god. Stop using Lightning 2 when there is 1 enemy on screen that will take damage. its a waste of mp. your blasting doing 8 mp per turn with brono when you can be using 2 mp per turn when there is 1 enemy. both boss fights was a perfect example of how not to use magic. there are some attacks that attack and is multiplied but that is not but the difference between lighting 1 and 2 is that one attacks a group the other does a single enemy but no damage multiplier.

Hey guys, Lightning2 doesn't actually do more damage than regular Lightning you know, it just hits multiple enemies and costs 4 times as much MP. So yeah for single targets, never use Lightning2.

Also, one of the great advantages of dual techs – even if they sometimes only do the same damage as two seperate attacks (but often way more) – is that you only attack once. This means you can only be counterattacked once instead of twice, and that an enemy who raises his defense every time he gets hit only does that once instead of twice. Also, it's quicker (in terms of time spent in battle menus) to use one dual tech than to use two seperate attacks, so if a boss is hitting you like crazy in between turns, then dual techs are the way to go.

Finally, if physical attacks don't do shit, then have that character do a dual tech that combines with some magic damage. Volt Bite, for example lets Byla + Brono do something useful, instead of just Brono.

Oh and Ryan, please actually check to see who are the character participating in a specific dual attack instead of just making a wild guess. Your reason for not using Volt Bite was 'I need that heal', but Bobo, your healer, isn't in it. It's Byla + Brono.

As MannySavior already stated, you're kinda giving this game way more credit than it deserves. The reason Volt Bite did more damage than Drill Kick is because it's lower on the list, and thus newer, and thus more powerful. Lightning wasn't even amongst BlackTyrano's weaknesses, and Spin Kick, had they actually used it, would've probably done equal or more damage. At the end of the day, all you really need to do is keep your health up and use your most recently learned attacks, provided the enemy doesn't have any resistances to them. Sure, there may be a few battles that require you to do things in a specific way, but the game always tells you exactly what you need to do right there on the screen, and even if you choose to ignore it you'll do just fine, as proven by this Endurance Run time and time again.

If you want more games like this though, then FF4 all the way up to FF10-2 work pretty much the exact same way (except for the fact that FF10 is not an ATB game, so you're essentially in perpetual Wait Mode). Lots of gimmicky battles just like these that require you to abstain from attacking, use specific elements on specific parts of the enemy, attack objects in the environment to cause massive damage to the boss, etc., etc. It's really been a Square Enix staple but they had to move away from it with FF12 and FF13 due to the revisions to the combat system, though FF13 still requires you to be on your toes at all times even morso than any other game in the series. For example, if an enemy starts counting down to an attack, you know that you have to switch classes to the Sentinel, boost your defense, and aggro the enemy so it doesn't one-shot any of your other party members, but overall there isn't as much variety to it as previous games in the series.

Aside from those older FF games, you should really give the more recent Resonance of Fate a go. If you know what you're doing, you can plow through battles without getting hit. If you don't know what you're doing, you could end up having to retry the battle (which only costs a little bit of in-game cash -- no booting you back to the title screen) like 5 times before you finally manage to bumble your way through it. And I'm not just talking about bosses either. No, all dungeon battles (the ones one the world map tend to be a bit trivial, however). This is one of the few games to come out in recent years (or ever, really) that you can't play without doing the entire tutorial first, and even then it takes hours before you get a good feel for it. You think the battles in Golden Sun and Persona games are too boring? Well, prove yourself by playing this then.

Another game that's pretty similar to it (because it was developed by the same team over at tri-Ace) is Valkyrie Profile 2, though luckily it's not nearly as hard because if you do die you get booted the title screen. Both are highly recommended if you wish RPGs required a bit more strategy than they typically do.

I wouldn't personally recommend Super Mario RPG like MannySavior did as the only thing that stands in your way to victory are your reflexes. If you just want a good action RPG, there are much better choices out there.
