@lolak47:
This game doesn't exactly make it easy to aim, though; It is easily the most broken aspect of the entire product, I think. Vinny makes it look a little smoother, but I still laugh when he goes all haywire trying to correct it.

I don't know if Brad reads these or if it is to late, but using the shotgun or magnum on the wall ladies will go much faster. The grab animation is so slow that you have plenty of time to shoot her with the shotgun. Don't forget to use your auto lock on her.

Yup, Brad snapping at the 25 minute mark and Ryan being Ryan saved this episode.

You'd think that when those wall ladies come around, its a good time to bust out the shotgun and not that piddly SMG.

And the Wall-Crawlers bring out the tension again. As I'm to understand it, these should be the last of these fuckers for the rest of the game (maybe one more round).

Good fucking episode! Brad valiantly charging into melee, hitting the lady, breaking the pipe and getting butchered very predictably was priceless.
But seriously, you did well with this rough sequence of wall-crawling ladies. There still were a few funny decisions during combat, especially going back to the trainwreck-strategy after clearly having figured out a more effective way to kill the enemy, but considering the significant flaws  DP has in gamedesign and combat in general you definitely seem to be well on track for now!
And you can't fault them for not paying a whole lot of attention - it drives me nuts, but that's their choice...

I have to confess, that for the very first time I skipped through chunks of this video. I've never skipped through a Giantbomb video before, but watching Brad fumblingly kill more wall ladies for half an hour is more than I can bear.

@ Ventilaator - I'm totally with you on this one.  It's why I enjoy VJ so much more.  They are so much more relaxed about it all.

I skipped through most of this episode.  Not because of Brad and Ryan, but because the part they were at was boring and I have already seen it in VJ's ER.  I'll go back and watch it in full soon just for Brad and Ryan's commentary.

Ryan gives him strategies. I, personally, just don't feel that Brad follows them properly. It's like Brad forgets how to handle certain situations between episodes.

Yeah, as much as I feel that some people are a bit too harsh toward him, I do feel that Brad has some very questionable play tactics. While not *all* of the misfortunes are his fault, I'd say that a good number of them are. I'm just hoping that he figures out the trick behind the wall crawlers in this episode. Based on some of the comments, I have a feeling that I won't be disappointed.

Run past her, then after she turns red and does her little grab animation hit her with the melee! (She should still be glowing red for a while after her grab animation)

Yea I agree too.  Sure the game has many faults but Brad definitely needs to change the way he plays the game and try a different strategy.  He wouldn't have been attacked after his pipe broke if he realized it was about to break and DIDN'T use the pipe.  I played the game and yes it isn't great, but you have to admit when it was definitely was your own fault.

Bare in mind that Brad and Ryan haven't fought as many wall ladies as Jeff and Vinny (they did that haunted place to get the infinite shotgun), so they haven't had the opportunity to learn the fast method like they did. But they found it out by the end, so it's all good.

I think Brad being in the run-mode, with the LRLRLRLRLRLRLRLR prompt sitting there for a full 4.5 seconds (I counted) and yet he doesn't press it ONCE, instead deciding to sit there and murmur "oh god", really emphasizes why he should not be a professional game critic.  I'm not saying he shouldn't die occasionally in games, or should be the most perfect player in the world...but someone getting a salary for playing video games should have the hand-eye coordination required to play games accurately.

I can just hear Jeff shouting "RUN!" "TURN!" "SHOOT!" throughout this episode. That being said, I spent more time reading comments while the episode went on than actually watching the wall lady fights.

Whoa, why are the volume levels so different between today's episodes? I have a pretty mean speaker setup, so maybe I notice it more than most. I also noticed a huge discrepancy between ERs and the Red Dead QL yesterday.

Still, how are you guy's normalizing the audio for all your videos? I tend to find that GB videos are quieter than most Internet videos out there.

I'm so glad Brad finally found the effective strategy to kill those wall crawlers. I only wish he would've figured it out sooner as those were the last batch he'll ever have to fight.

Oh, and by the way Brad, it is all your fault.

If by 4.5 seconds you mean 2 seconds, I partly agree.  You counted from when he was grabbed, not when it prompted him.  That might sound nit-picky, but if you're going to go out of your way to attack someone's personal credibility, you should come into the conversation with some of your own to start off.  Brad is not the best at video games but I suppose he represents that demographic in the market.  I personally have difficulty watching him criticize game mechanics he seems to be choosing not to learn his way around, but if you keep his comments in context with his style of gameplay, and realize there are plenty of people out there who aren't great at games but still enjoy them, it's reasonable.

Those pesky wall-crawlers almost ruined the game for me. tbh the only surefire safe way I found to deal with them is what Jeff/Vinny does: run under them so they do their attack but will miss you, then immediately turn around and shoot.

Takes fucking forever though. :(

Well I'm embarrassed. Judging by all the comments I am the only person on the internet who thinks he would be doing far worse than Brad.
I guarantee I would need to find a FAQ to get past those wall crawlers and when you factor in the tank-like controls would still die repeatedly getting past them.
Then when I add in the prospect of attempting all this while getting ripped on my own web site and having every twitch I made recorded in minute detail...(shudder)
Although I would be worse, compared to me Brad's handling of a controller looks like a concert pianist, I appear to have ten toes on my hands while trying to work one.
So since this is more how my experience would be, I don't want the two teams to pass info between them.  Then it would just be two copies of the same thing, right?
This is why I watched every second of the Star Trek Online beta, because Brad was driving that as well.  I want someone to hit every control, try to go every place and do every thing just to see what is possible in the game.
It's a wickedly tempting to assume I would do everything perfectly while watching someone else perform a task.
    Semper Fi, Brad.  Drive on.

What's with the constant whining? If you don't like how Brad plays - why even watch? And to question wether he shoud be a game journalist considering how he, allegedly, "suck at games"... seriously?

Yes, seriously.  Game reviewers should have basic concepts of game-playing down.  Whether or not a person decides to be mean about it is up in the air, but from watching all this (and a multitude of quick looks) it's clear that Brad lacks the ability to play games appropriately.  The dying doesn't matter quite as much as the lack of hand-eye coordination.

I think you are confusing the basic requirements for being a professional gamer with being a gaming journalist. It really isn't necessary to play games to perfection to write about them. Completing them, having the deepest possible knowledge about the industry and having good writing skills are, unless you are doing games journalism for professional gamers of course.  Then you would be correct.
Just sayin'

@TaylorPollock:
No one should ever request gaming perfection.  Reviewers should be "good" to "okay" or "fair" at games, but Brad is actively poor.  Yes, he's funny, yes, he's a friend and part of the crew, yes, he can write, yes, he has knowledge of games.  But his hand-eye coordination is lacking.  THAT is the problem; it causes him to bitch about a game and its "faults" even though he himself is the one at fault.  Deadly Premonition definitely has a lot wrong with it, but you see Brad's negative reactions in nearly every quick look.  He'll shoot to the left of a person, then complain about not hitting the person, even though he clearly saw the crosshair on a different part of the screen.   He'll walk straight into an enemy's grasp despite spending 16+ hours (just of this game) doing the same thing over and over and over again.  No one is asking for perfection, but rather competence.

It's like having a plumber come to your house to fix the drain pipes, and he can tell you all about how it's wrong and why it's wrong, but then when it comes down to actual doing what's necessary, the guy can't bend his knees to go underneath the sink and fix it.  Brad clearly cannot play games with any sort of logic.  It's the same reason he disliked Lost Planet 2 so immensely; he treats every game as the same, then complains when it turns out it isn't the same and doesn't treat him like some kind of God at gaming.  Each game is different even if similar, and he cannot put the pieces together that say "Deadly Premonition is not like Resident Evil.  The guns control differently.  The characters control differently.  Melee weapons have different hit detection."  This game is heavily flawed, sure, and yes, Brad is funny and a founding member of the bomb squad, but just because he's friends with these guys doesn't mean he's good at his job.

He doesn't have to be the Christ of gaming or whatever.  He just has to be "okay", but he is less than that.  If you can't play games with efficiency then when he comes to review them it should all be taken with a massive grain of salt.
