I knew this list was going to be interesting when the number 10 spot went to Alan Wake. I really had no idea Ryan held it so highly.

Shank 2 is amazing. Goddamn anybody who says otherwise.

I didn't cry at the end of The Walking Dead but it was probably the closest I've ever come to doing so. Highly emotional game.

After watching the Day Two recap, I too want to play more XCOM.

Aha, American Nightmare, FTL and XCOM all getting credit where credit is due? I'm surprised and pleased with the astounding amount of overlap between my personal favorites and yours. Sound reasoning and a damn solid choice of 2012's best I think. I'm also getting happier and happier with how excellent this year turned out to be if one looked in the right places. A lot of variety and enjoyment for sure. That's what GOTY should be about anyway - appreciation of just how good games can be.

I don't have any gripes about how long they spent on it, just saying it wasn't close to getting me to tears and I'm pretty surprised it did it for others.

@Sooty: It might help if you have children or young siblings. I also cried at the end, and so did the three other people I know who played it.

I'm a bit surprised we haven't seen Legend of Grimrock on any of these top 10s. I guess the guys didn't pump a lot of time into it. Still, Hotline Miami, Walking Dead, Xcom, Journey, Mark of the Ninja, FTL... while not a lot of shooters to contend against, still just as good as last years lineup was.

Surprised to see American Nightmare in a top 10 list but Ryan liked it enough so that's cool. Not surprised to see XCOM: Enemy Unknown being his most favorite.

@Vod_Crack: Yo, Ryan says it was one of his "favourite gaming experiences of 2010", meaning he was recalling the experience he had in 2010, regardless of when the game came out. He could have made a mistake on the release but perhaps this is what he meant.

I do have a soul, and no, I wasn't '' close to losing it'', sorry. Walking Dead was awesome, nonetheless.

Is anyone else's videos not playing as it usually does? For some reason it's stuttering, which is never does. Either it's Giantbomb, or my computer. I think it may be my internet, 'cause the video's not loading fast which is making it stop. I don't understand why that's happening.

That was part of the beauty to me. My sister and I did the opposite things:

I had Clem kill me, because I wanted her to be tough as nails, to do what needed to be done and this was the hardest thing, just after seeing her parents. The sequence lingered because she hesitated a bit but didn't linger too long.

My sister told her to walk away, not wanting her to do that awful of a thing. Lee reflected that, saying he wanted her to be better, that killing could go too far. It was more protracted and sad. Which reflected the meaning there perfectly. It was probably sadder than mine, which is a big reason I basically cried again.

Both were right in their own way, both had meaning and were framed to emphasize that, both were beautiful.

To those saying Ryan made a mistake with 2009/2010 re: Flower's release date, he never said it was released then; he only said it was one of his favourite game experiences of 2010. Maybe he only got around to playing it in 2010? Or maybe it only clicked for him then? Y'know, while we're splitting hairs...

Ryan nailed it with The Walking Dead, i had to awkwardly wipe away five minutes of tears when my uncle walked into the room as i played the last scene of episode 5

XCOM deserved it. If the averages play out it'll be the overall goty.
