Funny, normally I have no problem with Brad, but I'd like to strangle him during this podcast.

Oh sure, i mean i dont have any real problem with Brad, its not like he "killed my father and took his sssword!" but yeah, he is an extremely strangleable fellow! He didn't annoy me that much here...again i don't mean to rag on him, it could run either way for anyone on the planet. Hell Jeff can have the most narrow opinions, but no one seems to notice or care nearly as much.

@Marokai:  I hate to talk shit about the Bombcast crew, but I agree with you completely. Brad was just...whiney.

On topic, I think Darksiders is going to get snubbed a lot this year and that kind of saddens me. That game deserves some damn props for taking the Zelda formula and doing something different with it. My usual problem with the Zelda games is the universe; I just can't get into it anymore. Darksiders, while it looked like a Todd Mcfarlane game at first, ended up having a pretty cool story and some memorable characters, plus an ending that makes me drool for the sequel.

Oh, and Jeff's trolling of Limbo brought a smile to my face; and I actually liked that game.

Wow chill everyone, Brad just cares about the awards and doesn't want the wrong game to win. Just enjoy the awards and stop the hating! Although wanted Morgan to win its the disaagreements that make it fun!

The fact that Jeff could sit through any other stale, boring, grindy, shitty game (like deadly premonition) and for some illogical reason refuses to even play through one of the best games in recent years (RDR) is frankly absurd.  Bravo to Brad for holding his ground and defending his opinion very well.

If anything, I've lost a lot of respect for Jeff due to his irrational, dismissive attitude.  This isn't about my opinion being different than his, this is about the fact that when your job is to play and review video games, and you outright and without good reason just dismiss perhaps the most critically acclaimed game of the year, that just means you're doing your job wrong.

Anyone else feel like if Brad had gone after Bayonetta instead of Francis York Morgan John Marston would of gotten through?

Just glad York didn't get any awards so far.  Everyone knows Zach is the better choice.  No, but seriously, that game and character are sub-par compared to everyone else on the list and I am actually a bit surprised by how much of a defense that York got.

I liked that there was such a huge difference of opinions on a lot of these categories, personally, I don't understand why everyone is getting on Brad's ass or Jeff's ass about this.  These end-of-year-awards are a big deal in a lot of ways to these guys, I mean look at how much content they have put into this year's awards, as such they should stand their ground and argue their positions instead of just wavering and falling in line with the popular opinion.  I like to hear these guys talk about the reasoning behind their choices and argue about these things, that's why I listen in - for the insight... and because the bombcast is fucking hilarious too.

Dammit, I think York should've won the best new character award. I say it not just because he was one of the few things done right in Deadly Premonition, but because I'd like to see someone win over the juggernaut of Mass Effect 2 (or any major releases, for that matter). Always root for the underdog, I say.

Hell yeah, VVVVVV. That one other site got Potential For Anything voted as best video game song of the year, and rightfully so! Even though I paid three times as much for SMB as I did V, and I've played SMB for about a hundred times longer than V, I'm still going to say that VVVVVV is the better game. It's just got... something. Something very special.

And I'm glad York got as far as he did, too. The people who don't think York is much of a character are those who are letting the suckiness of his game get in the way. I was honestly shocked at the end of that game! That character arc really worked on me in a spectacular way that I most definitely didn't expect. I wouldn't have expected it even from a good game, much less such a pile of jank as Deadly Premonition.

The writing in that game was actually good. So there.

Although I guess it can't be helped, I wish they would stay out of spoilers territory.

Mass Effect 2 is not on the PS3 yet, and the discussion on Best Character has some serious spoilers about Mordin's backstory...

I don't get why people get so worked up about these awards for. I disagree with a lot of the things said but there's no need for me to write an essay about why Limbo is great or why Francis York Morgan is a better character than Bayonetta.

These comments are the best of the year. If only there were some way to make your OWN list so that you could voice your disagreement in a mature, constructive way. Well, since there isn't, keep screaming about how "wrong" the staff is in the comments.

It seems as if Vinny is the only person that played all the high-profile releases to completion.  From what I remember in past Bombcasts Jeff played like an hour of RDR, Ryan never got into Starcraft 2 and Brad never played AC: Brotherhood.  Yet Vinny played through all of these.  It should be the other way around really because Vinny's just a producer...and to Jeff Green he's just an intern!

I really wish you guys would at least acknowledge STALKER Call of Pripyat exists, because personally it's far and away the GOTY this year, and as far as PC games goes it represents everything I love about PC gaming, stuff that I can't get anywhere else.

I've listened to this twice now and I don't think jeff was smug while mentioned Nier - it felt to me me like he was suggesting it and waiting for any of the other guys to latch onto that suggestion since he didn't play it himself  (ryan and  brad did the quicklook of it)

I'm disappointed that Brad didn't make much of an effort to get John Marston in the top three. It seems like he was more concerned with not having Francis York Morgan there because he hates Deadly Premonition.
But then again, it didn't help that Jeff knows almost nothing regarding Red Dead Redemption ("Isn't he just a generic cowboy though?")

Comparing Mass Effect's Morton to Nazi's is very very ignorant historically. As Brad said, they did something and then "HAD" to fix it or the universe was done for. And it wasn't even a genocide as you tossed out there, it was genetic manipulation to limit population, which even China has basically done for years and will probably do so more closely to this fiction as science gets more sophisticated. Morton could actually be compared to the USA. Look at Afghanistan, we gave them weapons not 30 years ago to fight Russia, then we realized we fucked up, and we went in and fought them and manipulated them and will continue to do so for years to come. We did the same with Iraq. Both situations were really our fault, and yet not too many Americans feel remorse when they hear of Iraqi or Afghan civilians dying. Sad but true. Morton might in fact be a mirror.

We basically responded to Communism and now Extremist Islam the same way he "had" to with the Krogans.

its kind of sad having a game of the year podcast when one of the members hasnt even played one of the top 3 games. red dead would be in the running for number one i guarantee but jeff will have none of it.

Sorry, Jeff. If the only reason of Dance Central being the Best Debut because it was the game that proved the Kinect can work, I cannot stand by it. That doesn't excuse the significant flaws of the hardware, nor does it excuse the fact that the rest of the initial lineup of Kinect games were from mediocre to terrible.

What annoys me is that Brad says no to Darksiders, having not played it, but doesn't abide Jeff's stance on Limbo, despite him having almost completed it.

Like someone has already suggested, they should have made nominations beforehand, then played them all. Then again, it wouldn't be Giantbomb if they had...

I get what you're saying and you're right, but "gaming insight" from the GB cast kind of falls short when they aren't even playing some of the games they are talking(or not talking) about.

I know they'll have the blind followers forever listening and reading stuff on the site, but I was shocked when they were discussing some of these games and they hadn't even finished the core games. At some point it was said that only a couple of hours were put into some of them. That isn't insight at all.

Same thing at every other website.  I know for sure that GameSpot and IGN have separate reviewers playing separate games (having them miss out on others), and the latter has entirely separate divisions solely to create more fanboy bickering/advertisement revenue.

This is what happens in every totalitarian gaming website. Giant Bomb is just the only site ballsy and personal enough to treat their users right by showing the process.

I appreciate what they are doing and I like this site very much. I'm not sure if I'll jump ship from the podcast since I've only caught the recent GOTY-casts, but I was ready to listen about good video game talk and discussion and so far it's really distracting when multiple people in the cast start talking about the fact they haven't played or finished some of the GOTY picks.

If this is how GB's podcasts work, I have not a single problem with that. It's not my website. I was not expecting that at all, though.

I won't abandon Quick Look though. I love those.

I feel bad for brad... I feel a lot of times it's him vs everybody else. I agree with him on Limbo and John Marston. Fight for what you believe in Brad!!!!

@Vigil80:

I can totally get behind this--STALKER that is.

Also, and I don't mean to rag on the Giantbomb guys...they are not pc centric, they should really just have SNIDE do the pc games, along with anyone else that actually plays a good amount of pc games, Vinny would be a good choice.
