Interested, but not sold. Definitely not a day one purchase for me.

Btw, Face means reputation in Mandarin (and some other chinese dialects)

oh god, they did the mission that the devs showed in another video. haha. except that according to the devs, giantbomb are playing it wrong.

oh well, this looks fun. will probably buy it at some point.

Prediction: This gets 3 out of 5 because it doesn't have a big name attached, even though nothing seems any worse than any other open world game.

This looks lots of fun. I hope there's an option to change all of the voice to Cantonese.

Er, he's an undercover cop. How many other open-world games have an undercover cop as the main character? You certainly aren't one in GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas or IV.

Coincidentally, True Crime:Streets of LA, and True Crime: New York were open-world crime games where you are a cop. Not necessarily undercover all the time, but certainly more on the vigilante side.

However, LobsterMobster is right. The character is an undercover cop, but he is undercover as a street thug, which represents most open world games. It's more convenient to play as a vigilante disobeying the law rather than a cop who has to follow it. Wouldn't be much fun if the player had to follow the law.

you do still have to follow the law to a degree, there are two meters you have to keep an eye on one is the cop the other one is the triad the more you break the law and do things like killing innocents or breaking stuff as Ryan showed in the QL the cop meter starts to drop but the triad goes up and if you do a bunch of good stuff the cop meter goes up but the triad meter drops. If one or the other gets to zero it's game over You have to balance doing triad shit with being a cop and obeying the law, there are also missions that effect it as well.

This could be alright fun, Hong Kong looks nice and I'm a sucker for real cities in games. Getting a bit tired of comically aggressive police in open world games though, seems like all the good and bad parts of the genre are on full display here.

Will wait for price to drop on the PC version, that pop in was dreadful. Hopefully that's cleaned up in the final build.

United front games the dev behind this did modnation racers which did decent enough they are made up of former Rockstar, EA blackbox, Radical entertainment and Volition devs so I would guess they know a thing or two on how to put an open world game together.

Apparently Ryan didn't see the trailer posted the other day talking about how this game is all about vaulting over cover and running, gunning, and disarming. Not just hiding behind cover and popping out for a few shots at a time. Fun QL though, this game looks surprisingly competent given it's turbulent development history.

This and Darksiders II on the same day. Should cover my second half of August.

@megalowho: I don't know, I thought that cop was pretty chill letting Ryan bump into him over and over. He didn't get aggressive until attacked and didn't start shooting until Ryan fled capture.

The pop-in glitch reminded me of playing GTA III and going so fast that the world didn't load and I fell into the abyss. Hilarious, hopefully that isn't in the final build though. LIke they said this was a preview build and one that Ryan had a hard time running, so I'm hoping it was just the old E3 demo version.

that's true but you need the skills in the skill tree to do some of that stuff at least to make the disarming parts work as well as your gun play like better aiming dive and shoot etc, Ryan didn't have any of them so his only choice really was to do what he was doing in the QL.

This actully looks pretty cool.

I've been to Hong Kong before.

Skipping through the video, since I'm at work, I noticed a lot of places that looked... familiar.

Though it's hard to tell, since even in the dead of the night, the streets were pretty busy. During the day? Replace all the empty space on the pedestrian walk ways in this QL with people and replace the people in game with empty space.

I'll probably day one purchase this. Not many games that aren't martial arts fighting games, violin simulators, piano simulators, math games, or science games that let me play a male Chinese lead. Hopefully they have an option for Cantonese voice acting when appropriate.

Knew nothing of this game before the QL, now I'm thinking I'll pick it up. Just hope there are not too many shootout sequences.

In Mandarin one's face refers to their reputation. Like the saying "I'm saving face" and not to embarrass myself.

My guess is that he is talking about male street thugs part (for sure an unrepresented group in open world video games). The Asian part seems to be a side stuff, since most characters talk in English all the time...

But if "Asian male leads" is what you are looking for, I would suggest you to look at Japanese games... certainly no lack of those in there.

I always wondered if what if someone put the real city population density in the video game version of that city how annoying navigation actually would become.

Ryan was playing that sequence completely wrong. Look at the developer playthrough of the same mission. They want you vault over cover to trigger slow motion, not sit back and hide like Ryan did.

So I watched this Quicklook immediately after looking at the Developer Playthrough.

Ryan sort of made it look like shit. It looks a lot better when the player knows what they're doing.

Preview Quick Look, would make more sense I think... but I'm guess their backend system generates the heading Quick look when they mark a video as a quick look.

Hmm, this actually doesn't look to bad. Hopefully they can fix the bugs before it comes out. Also, a PC release would be nice but considering how hard it was to come out at all I'm not to hopeful for one.

EDIT: Just realized this is for the PC and on Steam too! May have to pick this up!

This looks pretty great, actually. Some herky-jerky animations, but I love the aesthetic and the VO seems solid.

This looks way better than that official mission run-through they put out, dunno what it was but that looked super janky before.

Things would have gone a lot better against Ming if he'd had a bat.

It looks really bad graphically and I doubt it's because it's not the final build. Hopefully the PC version will improve some of it, especially the terrible pop-in.

Game looks like a lot of fun, but could do with a few more licks of paint for my liking.

@MosaicM80: You're in luck! PC version is out the same day as console.

They probably should have renamed "face experience" to like "respect" or something like that considering most white people and non-Asian people don't know what the term means in Asian cultures.

Also, I am TOTALLY DOWN FOR ALL THIS CHINESE RAP.

...can't tell if the Engrish voices in this game are racist or not.

Ninja Tune radio station is the best thing about this to me.

Just watched the developer walkthrough of that last mission. Man, this looks great.

Shame that Ryan didn't take advantage of slow mo during shooting parts. Also, pretty sure that you can disarm guys behind cover by vaulting over it. Game looks good so far
