My impression was the opposite. The story mode seemed like a pretty decent co-op platformer, and the multiplayer looked like unfun nonsense.

1. They could've played online multiplayer if Jeff signed in as a guest

2. You throw your friend upwards vertically by pressing up and X while they are atop your head

3. You can capture the horse for a big bonus, in order to close score gaps or gain a giant lead

4. Ball is the best mode

Love everything about this, except maybe wanting to play it? Seems like that's a common reference in the comments. 4 player local seems to be the only real way to do this. I think I just want animated shorts with this art style, narrator and music honestly.

Okay, for the Capture the Horse level, I think what you need to do is stand on the bridge block on your side, then call your horse across the bridge with LT so you can ride it to the other bridge block, so that you can then ride your opponents horse back over to your side and score it in the stable :) Totally doable as a two player level.

Can anyone confirm that the Behemoth will continue to have a Battleblock Theater booth at PAX for years to come? I don't know what I'd do without it!!!

They've made sure to reserve a booth every year for the next decade. So that after this game's release people think they're still working on it.

This seems overproduced. I feel bad that they've spent so long making this thing. To be fair, I never found the gameplay to look that great, but it's probably fun in multiplayer. I'm not sure why it needs that elaborate single player when really the emphasis is on the multiplayer. I would have rather seen them adding more minigames, and putting limits on some of the games depending on the number of players. I can't help but feel that they've spent too much time and (perhaps) money building on a simple idea that wasn't super interesting to begin with.

One thing to keep in mind is that they were working on this at the end of Castle Crashers shipping for XBLA. Then the success of that lead them to do things like localize it for Japan, ship on PC, porting to ps3. This lead to the ship date of BattleBlock being pushed back further and further.

I can already tell I'm going to enjoy the hell out of that single-player. I've been missing a breezy, well designed platformer for a while (to get Rayman Origin's shit ass difficulty curve and bad checkpointing out of my mouth). If it also has cool multiplayer hooks, then I'm all in.

Reminds me a lot of LittleBigPlanet, it's fun to mess around at times, but ultimately you're there for the platforming, and the neverending item collection.

I feel like a great big bastard for saying this, but I have to say, the primary reason I'm glad this game has been released is just that it's finally out of the goddamn way now, so they can focus on (hopefully) making something more like Castle Crashers. :P

That's true, and looking into the devs I didn't realise that they run newgrounds; they have other things to do besides making this game. Still, it was scheduled to come out in 2010. I wish they had scaled their game to something like Fat Princess. Mabe the story stuff gets good later, but it looked pretty throwaway from the QL. A simple tutorial may have sufficed. I looked at their blog* and they would be "surprised if this thing’s story wasn’t twice the length of Castle Crashers". Ludicrous. This seemed like the wrong game idea to build so much stuff around.

I just hope they get enough money to work on something more interesting.

I urge you all to give this game a go. I was a bit meh about the gameplay when I first started playing it (after being such a big fan of Castle Crashers) but honestly playing coop when the levels start getting tougher is a whole lot of fun. When you play these levels and realise the scope of the levels that can be created, you start to understand it all a bit more. On top of the presentation being totally stellar, funny and awesome.

Yep, another issue I have. My hope is that the levels shown are more or less just 'tutorial' levels and that they're less obvious about everything later on.
