Quick Look: Beat Hazard

I really don't like how some of these music games have intentionally distracting visuals because it's like a wild acid trip brah or some kind of ridiculous visualizer.
 
Rez did it the right way. It was wild looking without looking annoying.

" Just to let y'all know on 360 it will pull songs off of the hdd to use for levels just like the PC version. It is 400 pts on 360 so about  $4 in USA or  gbp 3.40 in UK.   So get the 360 version peeps as it is almost double this on STEAM Europe ( 9 Euros). Play it on a 1080p 47" tv , through a good sound set up,  sitting about 5' from the screen  , and in a dark room and it is totally sweet. On a 24" 1080p pc monitor nah not so much. "

Just grabbed a copy off of steam. Seizures taste like burning.

This looks fucking terrible. Live FFT beat detection is SHIT for games, and it totally explains why there isnt more audio response; Getting that response to actually sync up with the music is an absolute nightmare when you're using this type of detection.  
 
This is why "proper" music games have a shit ton of preprocessing and manual tweaking done. This kind of "magic" idea that any music will just WORK is not realistic any way shape or form.

This game is pretty fun but it feels like I'm just playing a shooter with my music in the background. Another Indie game comes to mind when I think of this game and its done in a much better fashion. Ugh this is a one way ticket to seizureville.  Love that Crystal Castles song though.

I can honestly say that I was worried I might have a seizure watching this quick look. No joke. I really thought, "This is probably how people have them."

try the demo and you'll get an idea of what tones do what. I'd think metal (especially filed with double bass kicks) would be full intensity all the time. Maybe stuff with tonal and timing variety like Tool or Mastodon would be better than something like Cannibal Corpse.

Playing the DJ Hero soundtrack in Beat Hazard is really fun. It's well worth the $10 on Steam. 

Kind of...Astrorock + Audiosurf; seems promising, with a little tweaking....

After playing this game for about 15 minutes it took me another half hour to get my vision back. Not sure if this is a bad thing or not.

I'm not really into the game, but Jeff, you just sold me two songs.

I played the demo yesterday and the shots have sound...there is another boss enemy aswell..
did it get an update?

I bought this and WOW!  This is super addicting and crazy fun. 

Its on Steam for crazy cheap now.

Best 360 indie game by FAR. Also one of the most expensive (400 MS points). Still worth it

I want to see these guys do a Quick Look of Beat Hazard Ultra, It fixed almost every complaint they had while it did make the game hard as shit. I still play on Suicidal but when it first came out I had to start over at Hardcore and earn them back.
