What the hell did I just watch?

I don't get it, why are people hating on its story?

I imagined that the 100% Anime crazy of this game would clash with Jeff and Ryans tastes, and they are not wrong, this game is ass crazy. That said I'm thinking of picking this up. Being an old anime fan out of the game (strangely enough because of crazy incoherent stuff like this) I think I'd want to take a crack at this. The GT video review only added to my intrigue. I also just like the fact that here is a Japanese developer who said "F it, you go and figure out how to break into the Western market, I'm gonna do my thing, WAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!". I agree with Jeff though, something about the animation doesn't feel right, I could swear that the last Guilty Gear game I played looked a little smoother. This looks like a flash animation in some places.

If you are THAT dumb that a game this simple confuses you, then A) look in the manual B) pop in the tutorial DVD. The game I suggest should be started on the story mode. Beat it with every character at least once, and you should get a great bearing on not only how to fight, but what the game is about. The voice acting both english and japanese is top notch. The game is meant to be over the top by the way, and that's what they had set out to do, and accomplished it. The game revolves around 4 buttons to fight, and really for almost every character you will be juggling between only 2 to do combos. A, B, C, D on PS3 are Square, Triangle, Circle, and X respectively. It just makes a circle. As for what S button is to unlock Unlimited Ragna it was L1. If you pause the game it says Key Configuration... AKA what each button does and you can swap it to whatever you want.The game has a Story mode that will clock 30hrs to get 100% in it for each character, an arcade mode that unlocks each characters Astral Finish 1 hit kill move, a Score attack mode that is hard to try to beat each character in a straight run by racking up points, local versus, training, and of course online versus.The online is incredible. The game just lags rgiht at the start before the round starts to buffer it all up, and BAM lag free fighting. Ranked matches take away the easy button combos of the right stick so you have to manually input your super duper moves. There's a big leveling system with unlocks, and a flashy player card. Private matches still net you exp, but less, however it lets you have up to 6 people in a room with up to 4 spectators. You can record replays at the drop of a hat when the fight ends to save them, and can download others replays in meer seconds to see how good they are.There's a big vast of colors to choose from for each character, and I want to say it is either 10 or 12 variations that not only change their color on screen, but tend to change their special moves colors, and their whole animated special moves on screen change color. It's impressive they did this much attention to detail.No character is at a disadvantage if you get good with them, and while many fighters SAY that, this is the first that does it successfully. As long as you invest play time into the character you will learn what to avoid from others and how to counter it successfully.The only obtuse thing about this game is that the story mode could've used more fully animated cut scenes, and less walls of text. Oh, and what is Jeff talking about saying the characters look bad? In what way? Are you playing on your grandmas SDTV? This game is so colorful, vibrant, and detailed from backgrounds to characters, you'd have to have a secret vendetta against it to think otherwise. Jeff its fine if Street Fighter is the only fighting series you feel comfortable with, but maybe leave the review to someone else, since we can see where your heart is on the manner. I smell a 3/5 coming from Giantbomb, and if you look around the net elsewhere, it's getting 9+/10 from all credible sources for videogame reviews.Play this game for at least 20 hours then hopefully you will come to the conclusion you were exceedingly harsh on this game in your quick look./end rant "

The last 3 minutes of this QL sold me aaaall the way.

This might be the first time I'll say this about a fighting game, but this might be too complex for me.  Just wayyy too much to track and keep an eye on for a fighting game.

This game looks incoherent, crazy, and just plain wierd.

And now I am very interested in this game.

From the first time I got more information and clips from it I've said it, this looks like a boring game in the long run. I've never been a big fan of the fighting game genre but I've managed to have some fun with them from time to time, I'd rather put down my money on something better.

Just to make sure I don't get shit hailed over me for this comment, I'll just say it. This is my OPINION, something one doesn't seem to be allowed to have these days.

I think this game's story mode/ teach me boobie lady should be the next endurance run.

I need this.  now.

Street Fighter IV is accessible? Coulda fuckin' fooled me.

Taokaka is probably the stupidest looking 'cutesy annoying catgirl' character I've seen in any game, fighter or otherwise. That little bob dance she does before a fight starts only emphasizes this.

I love how Jeff And Ryan were both just speechless for large parts of the quick look. I have been overexposed to japanese weirdness today. I think im going crazy myself........

I'll just state one negative thing about the video and leave it be: who the fuck gives two shits about a story in fighting game? All you need to know is a) what buttons do when you press them, b) how to string together attacks and special moves to perform combos, and that's about it. Beat some ass--nuff said.

I played the game for several hours yesterday, and I cannot see what Jeff was trying to get across about the characters looking bad. This is actually one of the best looking 2D fighters I have ever played.

I hope this game sells decently, so that we can see more 2D fighters from Arc. They make some awesome games.

Well, it's an extremely stupid opinion, so of course people are going to take issue with it.edit: honestly, since when did people start thinking that opinions are immune to criticism? Just because you're a unique snowflake doesn't mean that you aren't stupid for believing the things you do. "

This is a quick look, not a 20 hour look. I'm pretty sure these are meant to show what these games are about at a glance, the first things your going to notice when you pop in the game. Those of you criticising the quick look saying spend more time with it, that isn't the point. When you pick up the game and pop it in for the first time this is what you aree going to see. You are not going to see what the game is like twenty hours in. You are going to be a little confused with the buttons at a first glance, and your going to say what the hell is going on. The review for this, if there is one, will be after a lot more play time. Reviews are not written off of a 20 minute quick look. I thought they did a good quick look. If this was a full fledged review I'd be disapointed, but it's not, and they'd never do a review this way.

This has got to be the most divided comments section I've ever seen.

I liked Guilty Gear, so I might check this out, but I can see why some (read: normal people) could find it inaccessible. Games like this are really hard to follow.

Jeff doesn't like the sprites? I'd prefer these any day over the hugely muscular fighters of other fighting games. It might not be as realistic but I could care less. I'm a fan of the anime style.

I think this game would be a good candidate for an endurance run.  Playing through arcade with each fighter would be one episode each.  Then story mode would take awhile.  ut it has that crazy story stuff, lots of weirdness to comment on, and it's a style of game Jeff is talented with, even if it's not his favorite of the breed.  Anyway, I think it would be great.

It's definitely prettier than Street Fighter IV.

I must've said "Are you fucking kidding me...." at least 3 times aloud. Read the instruction manual, it explains a lot. The S button for instance? It's used to taunt and you can configure the buttons any way you want.

The sheer unmitigated insanity of this game actually makes me want to play it.

I love this game!

Having played it myself there are two things that stick out about this game setting it apart from other fighters. Firstly and most importantly is the difference in combat within the entire game.. and additionally between each character. This really is a new fighting game, separate from anything resembling SF/KOF or the verses games. The fact that each character has SUCH drastically different move sets.. yet the game is balanced ..is basically a jesus-miracle... it is just super well done. The second thing that sticks out is the crazyness of the character designs... if they had not done this.. it woudn't be the same game.. but it would seem much more accessible to a wider audience.

You must like this game, since you so valiantly have to defend the game. Or is it maybe that you feel that you wasted 60$ and have to defend it to justify your purchase for the peace of your mind? "
