Quick Look: DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

OG Deathspank was a great game. Definitely gonna pick up part 2 soon.

Another DeathSpank QL?  Bit weird considering none of them really like the game(s.)

I played the first game and thought it was ok. Still would have preferred Hothead to have made Penny Arcade Episode 3.

I just don't see the logic in having Jeff do this; it's very similar to the first game at least in mechanics, and he didn't like the first one, so why not have someone else do this?  I get to hear 15 minutes of "oh that's not funny" and "this is the exact same game" instead of getting a fresh unbiased opinion.  I'm one of those few, though, that likes the humor.

I loved the first game, I even S ranked it which I never do in games, but not only have I no interest in this, it's also making me like the first one less and less. Is that weird?

I really enjoyed the first one, more than jeff anyway, but this is bumming me out.  This isnt what I would want from another Deathspank.

Whoever writes the dialog for this game, needs to be shot, along with the dude who came up with the title, and the guy who came up with the general theme for the story.

I like the humour, tbh, it's very cute. I think I'd play this game if I was feeling down. It's so... uplifting, for some reason. I never actually got it, though.

i got 100% on the first one... After a little longer break I think I'll pick this one up too, it was funny and fun.

It can be a bit funny at times but forced shit like the title really makes it seem tasteless and well, forced.
 
Sort of like a little kid yelling "I'm funny, really, no I am...awh come on guys."

There were definitely armor sets in the first game.

 To deduce, what I'm asking is this: what 'exactly' are you looking for in this game? Less writing? More grounded context to collecting hundreds of seemingly trivial quests, and hundreds of varied items? I'd say that's damn near impossible. I don't even understand how Blizzard maintains the context to games like World of Warcraft without belittling their audience ('go fetch me some boar liver for stew plz!'). You need humour to lighten the tone in order to make such conventions approachable. "

I would actually think about playing this or the first one if it wasnt trying so hard to be funny and failing.

They could just attach T.O.V. to the end of Deathspank and release them as one game. They are the same game but with different setting and story. This is a literal continuation of Deathspank.  
 
Edit: On the subject of Monkey Island jokes, if you check the books shelves of the library you can find a book titles "The Secret of Monkey Island Revealed"

Fuck, Deathspank is such a bummer.

This game's brand of "whacky humor" is REALLY unappealing. As to why they had Jeff do this even though he disliked the first one, he's the guy who reviewed it. Who's more qualified? And from what I heard from the others, they didn't like it much either, so we probably would've been hearing about how weak the humor was anyway.

I purchased the first DeathSpank and because of the way in which this release was handled I will most likely never purchase a game from this developer ever again.
 
I don't mind episodic gaming at all but between them hiding that fact, the flat humor, and the $15 price tags = I'm out. Now there's this fishy DLC and well the whole damn thing just stinks of a money-grab to me. 
 
I wanted to give the comedy gaming pedigree contained within a shot considering that I had just played and enjoyed the Monkey Island Special Editions but I guess now I know that it was Tim Schafer what brought the funny I enjoyed.

@DOUBLESHOCK That's not what I'm saying.  Because it wasn't a secret that the games were similar, Jeff not liking this was basically a foregone conclusion.  Why not have someone else check this one out, who isn't as familiar with the concept?  An intern, perhaps?

It's interesting that they brought up The Tick because the bland boring look & feel of the Deathspank games makes me think a lot about the live action Tick sitcom.

I loved the first DeathSpank, but I don't know. Lots of big games coming out now and this basically a carbon copy of the first game.

I enjoyed the first one, but I'm pretty done with the series if they don't add features.

Is this just a clever way of selling a mediocre game in sections? Not saying it's a bad game but would you pay $60 for it even $40?

I'm not a fan of DeathSpank, soo.. this game's not for me.

I really like the visual style of the game, so I still want to at least give the first game a try.

Hey Dave, 

 The Spelling Orque is actually the french spelling of Orc. I played the Demo and they seems to use a lot of french words in  the game. Don't ask me why though.

This game still seems like its trying way too hard to be funny. And kind of failing.
