Quick Look: Demon's Souls

There are about five or six things I saw that I'd like to change about this game, but aside from that it actually looks like something I'd enjoy...am I insane?  I think the combat sticks out to me, I really like the idea of when you get hit in the fucking face with a sword it pretty much means the end, and same case for your enemies.  I'm not sure how I feel about the death penalty stuff, that does seem a little harsh and pretty time consuming(I have more important things to do than play the same level over and over)... and yeah the menu stuff doesn't seem real good either.  Also I'm not really sold on the whole "always online" idea... I guess the notes idea is pretty cool... eh... I guess I don't own a PS3 so this is all pointless really. :/

I'm strangely drawn towards this. I think I'll try it out.

They didn't mention that the level cap is 712

I was on pins and needles watching the whole time. Plus the game oozes class. Honestly if I had the time and energy I'd probably play this instead of Dragon Age, which looks generic beyond belief.
 
Basically it's a 3d roguelike and while I don't think that genre is for me I totally respect people who are into it.

The game has a much steeper learning curve than most games. Its not Quick Look material in the normal sense (no sane person can play this game and talk at the same time, not for long anyway).
 
Also, each class starts with different load outs and magician (what Vinny was using) is actually one of the hardest. Other classes like Royal and I think Priest, have rings that allow mana regen. Then just drop stat points into magic, willpower, faith, etc. and you have a better magic caster that's easier to level.
 
Vinny, props for trying a much harder stage thinking its easier (go back to the castle or the mines imo).
 
Couple tips Vinny: get a shield that blocks 100% physical (smith in the Nexus sells one) and go back to the castle (world 1, level 1) for the Cling Ring (by the big dude who hates fire, you can drop over the ramparts to a ledge, its right there - raises your hp in soul form). Good Luck and don't forget to use soldier and hero souls for even more soul points (but not boss souls cause those get turned into better stuff later on).

I'd love to try this game, but it'd probably destroy me.

Vinny made this game looks a lot harder than it is with his bad play and stinginess on the health items, when he started attacking the air and was locked on to a guy 3 floors down I knew he wasn't gonna make it. He had about 3 more bad guys to clear and he would have got to the lever which opens a gate and is basically as good as a checkpoint. Even though you start back at the beginning your progress is saved so you could have opened a gate to get back their in 1 minute and recollected his souls, plus half the dungeon would have been completed. He also didn't do a good job of explaining everything about the game but for someone who hasn't been paying attention to the game or read the manual, he did a decent job. I'm about 30 hours into the game and it's not a cheap game, only very challenging. The game is incredibly rewarding and they didn't even show the online co-op or pvp which is half the fun.

I was just thinking: if you loose all your souls at death, shouldn't you just make sure you spend them all on equipment and stats?

I took one look at this page and Jesus, why is everybody fighting??  From Halo to Nintendo games, this has nothing to do with any of those.  People need to go to pages without some sort of emotional agenda and stick to talking about what the comments are relevant to.

The game is great, too many ignorant people saying it looks awful.
 
It is a really hard game though, so if you suck at games, probably not the game for you.  If you liked that Fallout 3 and Oblivion told you where to go on your map & compass, probably not the game for you.

Giantbomb doesn't look at other reviews when reviewing a game. They've said so on the Bombcast. You don't do that when you review a game because it skews your perspective and can change your opinion on a game. I think the fact that both Infamous and Batman got 5 stars says a lot about those games since they got that score without them knowing the game was critically acclaimed. "

Fans aren't blind, we're forgiving.  The game is brutal, isn't the greatest looking, and has a menu that leaves more to be desired, but you can all suck our collective cocks because we fucking love it anyways! :D

They might not look at reviews, but you think they didn't see stuff like on the Batman AA Quick Look with all the fanboys screaming 'They better give this a 5/5! Ryan didn't seem interested! He's wrong, this game is incredible! Gametrailers gave it a so and so' etc. "

This game looks like a fun game to play during the winter months, like Dave said, maybe with snow outside and nothing else going on. I'm interested in trying it out at least.

Seriously I don't understand the hype for this, the game is nothing more than a ridiculously tough Monster Hunter/Diablo clone. The online connectivity seems cool but who cares when the game is so terrible.

Wow, I would not want to play this game. I used to love hardcore mode in Diablo 2 - then I grew up realizing that wasting my time to grind stuff isn't fun anymore without a goal beyond "being the best" in a hack&slash...

I'll just wait for Dragon Age and get by by playing games that wont frustrate me to the point of high blood pressure!
