This was like Inside the Actors Game Devs Studio, on top of a Quick Look.

This was a terrific podcast. Far as Quick-Looks go, however, this was very frustrating. At no point did I get to hear the actual game, sample the voice-actors they discussed at length, or see a puzzle be solved. Quite honestly, I don't feel that they were giving the game any attention, which is a weird thing to consider when the developer is in the room.

Really hope they do another quick-look once the game has been released, and that they invite Schafer in for a podcast at some point, man's got some stories to tell.

I agree with this. Schafer is a great dude to have on for a talk, but the game seemed like something that was just on in the background. Spoiling a couple of early puzzles is inevitable for a game like this in a proper QL and people should already be aware of that (an extra verbal warning could even just be given).

Like do_the_manta_ray, I still immensely enjoyed the talk though.

The best part was the part where they talked over the entire game, not letting us hear any of the amazing voice acting they were talking about.

Man, play the game before you watch this, but come back and watch this. This works much better as an interview than a Quick Look.

The game is too short to show like this, but Tim Schafer is always so interesting to listen to.

I'd rather have an excellent podcast with Tim Schafer over the traditional QLEX back and forth anyday. I can see how obfuscating the game and dialogue with banter could be frustrating, but for a game where so much (all?) of the enjoyment comes out of discovering that stuff I think the way they handled it was appropriate. The amount of content they could have spoiled would have been significant, hell I'd suggest people just give this one a listen with the video in another tab if it starts to look worthwhile and they want to be surprised.

Was able to easily to listen to this as if it were a podcast without spoiling the game... although I did watch that ladder bug... that was fun haha.

Broken Age is great and I am really glad I backed it. Feels great to have been a part of something (along with 90,000 others) headed by one of my favourite game developers/writers, Tim Schafer.

In this QL it feels like Tim had a lot of preconceptions about GiantBomb (e.g. them not being into/covering adventure games), which Jeff surprised him with. Also, Tim + Jeff + Vinny all deadpanning each other constantly and going more extreme with random phrases/ideas lead to some funny moments throughout, and some awkward ones too.

Tim also seems hyper paranoid about spoilers such that he is jumping on anything that could possibly lead to spoiling a puzzle, sometimes spoiling things himself!

@besetment: Exactly my thoughts. It's hard to concentrate on of the things. The first 10 minutes I didn't get anything of the discussion because i followed the game and then I didn't get anything of the game and it disturbed me being there while I tried to listen to the discussion.

I hope when they fix the ladder bug that the fix is getting the voice talent back in to record "the ladder" to the end of the line "Just walking through", and not actually fixing the bug.

I like Tim in all that I see/hear from him. I LOVED Broken Age PT1.

However... I do wish Tim (and others) would get off the high horse about cost of games, the appropriation of funds and backers expectations. Both Stoic and Revolution made Banner Saga and Broken Sword 5 for a 3rd of the cost of Broken Age and they're easily of equal quality. It's NOT unreasonable to expect a lot of a game for a 3 million dollar investment. Just because some companies blow crazy sums making a AAA game does not mean a great (and lengthy) game can't be made for much less.

Remember a Skullgirls character cost $150,000? People flipping their ignorant lid over that was embarrassing.

What do you mean by equal quality? Have you compared the number of assets from each game, calculated that they're the same amount, and they're all equally great? Did you factor in living costs for developers from each place? Come on. Videogame fans should stop trying to be pretentious budget analysts, when you and I have only an inkling of how game development works. Tim is not on a high horse, that's not even the correct use of that phrase.

Also BS5 was well into development when they started the Kickstarter.

Yup, that's a good point too.

Man this looks cool. I didn't back it but I can't wait to buy the final version.

I definitely agree with a lot of the advice in the comments; if you like what you see stop watching and just minimize and listen like a podcast. Great video GB crew!

Waiting five more days will be excruciating, but I can see the reasoning. God dang it...

I enjoyed listening to Tim, Jeff and Vinny discuss adventure games and Kickstarter. I played all of part 1 and it was a fun, quirky story. Would work well as an episodic game, maybe they could do a part 3 & 4 if this is a huge success.

If anyone hasn't seen it, the documentary on the making of Broken Age is a great watch and is now freely available to all on YouTube. Double Fine Adventure.
