People who like Platformers? People who have a fond memory of the original game? People who like an interesting game mechanic and pretty graphics?

How about people who like videogames?

Machinae Supremacy made the rock version of the giana sisters theme that's in the first level a few years ago.

It's awesome.

I'm not sure if any of the fans of the original game are really fans of the game or of Huelbeck's fantastic soundtrack. This is certainly a better game, maybe even great - though I haven't gotten far enough to really judge that - and while I love the idea of the different dimension's music, I don't think either versions hold up to the original game's music, even though Huelsbeck is also behind the music in this version. The graphics and the shifts between the dimensions/worlds are really great looking.

Anytime the Giana's are brought up it makes me think of that kid in school who still had a C64 in the early 90s and insisted that The Great Giana Sisters was better than Mario. I like to think he backed this on Kickstarter and is somewhere shedding a single tear...

Interesting fact: Twisted Dreams was actually developed by the same people who made the recent DS game.

Also Despite what Ryan said in the QL Giana Sisters DS is a very enjoyable platformer that more people should check out.

Any game that would have Godspeed You! Black Emperor? in its soundtrack would be an amazing game in my books. Video games need more post-rock soundtracks, it's the perfect atmospheric music genre.

The original Giana Sisters is kind of important when looking at the history of European game development. It was Rainbow Arts' breakthrough game, it made composer Chris Hülsbeck famous outside German hobbyist circles, and it was the first game of Manfred Trenz, who later went on to make the Turrican games. The lawsuit brought by Nintendo against Rainbow Arts was also one of the firsts of its kind.

Haven't watched this yet, but the only reason I'm curious about it is for the Machinae Supremacy soundtrack.

Also, judging from these comments, I'm gonna be pretty angry with Patrick after watching this.

Hm the rocket boost for the dark sister reminds me of the Rocket Backpack in Rocketknight Adventures, though it doesn't seem quite as tight.

The music in this games sounds fantastic, really enjoying the shift in the environments when you change characters, as well. Seems like a pretty damn well made game.

Luckily Machinae Supremacy is well known enough so that this game isn't needed to give them attention.

Fun Fact: Machinae Supremacy once said that they would be willing to do the Giant Bombcast theme for free.
Sadly that didn't seem to happen :(

Aside from the fact that he didn't make such a definite statement in the first place, the game also doesn't in any way indicate that there will be a reason for collecting the crystals before that point.

Butt Rock? Imma have to look into this.

Super Meat Boy has toughened me up on platformers, so the fact that this one looks a little more challenging than the average is a plus for me.

I like this game, mostly. It controls really well and interestingly with the two separate jumps you can perform in midair that reset whenever you hit an enemy. Some parts of its design feel really basic from a mechanics standpoint, like the balloon platforms that go up or down when you touch them and then blink out of existence, but the game itself still manages to be fun.

The music is really great in some parts as well, and I guess this is as good a time as any to post some of my favorite Hülsbeck music from my youth:

It's funny that the rip off was based off of Mario as the game in this video seems far more like a sonic game, especially when the purple sister bounces all over the place in a ball.

The lawsuit brought by Nintendo against Rainbow Arts was also one of the firsts of its kind.

Pretty much this, also we should not forget Armin Gessert (RIP) as the main programmer of this game, whose first name was also the letter combination which the player could press on the C64 to proceed to the next level.

And it's unclear if the lawsuit really existed (Trenz and Gessert stated at one point that they don't know about a lawsuit) or if Rainbow Arts pulled the game after some pressure/advice from Nintendo.

The stage 4 music still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it...

Agreed with some of the others here. Don't really consider that butt rock at all. The soundtrack all together had me jammin. Wicked electric guitar riffs is a perfect contrast to the softer melody of the other sister. This game actually looks like a nice old school platformer with a good gimmick and great visuals. May pick this up.
