@ZeForgotten: No amount of attention is enough. ;)

Also, do you have a quote of them wanting to do the theme? That's pretty interesting.

This game's soundtrack is a cooperation between Chris Hülsbeck and Machinae Supremacy (who totally need a page on this site because they've been involved in several video games at this point). Anyone who says anything bad about it has no fucking taste in music.

@HulkHanson: While you have to switch between the sisters (or really it's the "forms" since they are just different versions of the Giana sister and Maria is the sister she is trying to save) there's an option to set it so you just hear the "cute" style or the "punk" style of the music.

I don't think I'd ever switch from the red haired one, that's pretty good "butt rock". Gimme all dat double kick.

You can choose in the settings if you want the music to change when you switch sister, or if you want one of the two soundtracks to play throughout the entirety of the game.

Here in Hungary we didn't really get consoles(or at least not people i grew up with in the late 80s early 90s), so it was C+4, C64 and PC for me. I've never played any Mario games ever, but i did play Giana quite a bit in the olden days. And it was glorious.

they probably do, they also did the entire soundtrack for Jets'n'Guns, which is actually how I heard of them.

e: also, they aren't really butt rock, like at all. Closer to some kinda metal probs.

This looks pretty cool. Like an improved version of what 2D-platformers used to be. It seems like you could get a good flow through the levels if you wanted to as well.

Okay I don't wanna be that guy, but duuuuuude.

Patrick died like a million times in 20 minutes and I usually don't get annoyed by that kinda stuff but this was almost incredibly. Maybe Brad isn't the worst quicklooker at GB anymore, in terms of dying in quick looks. Brad has actually gotten a lot better at quick looks it would seem. It's probably all those breaking brad segments.

Patrick might be the new Brad.

Sweden, NES/C128, Yes (Mario before Giana though)

I also like to ad I don't understand why people were so negative on this game. It looked cool, seemed to be a quite nice plattformer. I mean... why the "Who is this for?" comments? Seem like a totally OK or more game.

This is some victorious fucking Metal. Definitely not "butt rock."

I think of butt rock as 70's mainstream hard rock, i.e. Bad Company and Bob Seger.

Type "butt rock" into Wikipedia, and it re-directs to 80's Glam Metal. Shitty spandex-wearing party music.

But it's ok that he died that many times because it wasn't a FPS with a scripted moment. It was a platformer with set game design. It's different.

Absolutely not.

All the more unfortunate that the Machinae Supremacy guys are probably going to watch this video.

I'm pretty sure butt rock was a term coined by AV Club-type media bloggers to describe the very chugging, grunting, overwrought grunge-derived hard rock of the 90s and 2000s. Bands like Creed and Nickelback, known for a certain sludginess-- particularly in their singing style, which suggests a constipated, groaning sort of discomfort.

Soaring, melodic guitar solos are more of a metal or even hair-metal (aka "cock-rock") element.

I only make this distinction because I think the term is very evocative in its original usage, whereas just using it as a substitute for "shitty rock" or "ridiculous rock" is a total waste of a really good phrase.

As a fan of Metal, Patrick totally seems like the kind of person who would hear it and call it "butt rock". Also, I'm SURE this quick look will go a long way towards bucking the trend of Patrick hate. Keep on keepin on Scoops!

EDIT: Holy shit, looked up the guys behind this music, their other stuff is pretty great too. Machirae Supremacy on YouTube for those with the proper tastes.

Could "Pulling a Patrick"* be a new term?

*When someone gets stuck on a somewhat simple block/platforming puzzle for fucking MINUTES!

Other than that great QL! Patrick always seem to have something interesting to say about videogames and he has been a breath of fresh air on this site especially with very triggerhappy duders like Jeff and Brad. It can just be a hazzle to watch him actually playing said games.

The use of the term "Butt Rock" did not endear me to Patrick any further.

Of course, this game actually looks pretty neat. If I had a functional gamepad instead of the bootleg 360 controller that barely works, I would consider purchasing it.
