Quick Look: Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Still wish red Kirby was playable in all his games.  Dude's a powerhouse when I play Smash 64.
 
And man, that tornado power makes me want to play some Kid Chameleon.

Silly Patrick. Kirby still isn't a cannibal. Of course he can't jump on enemies, and of course the Sleep ability is useless. :P

You guys should play Dreamworld 2. Patrick for the challenge and Ryan so he knows who those three animals were.

4 DS games and 2 Wii games. Kirby has really been busy this generation.

I really like Kirby games. As a general rule they are at the very least good, clean fun.

I'm a little disappointed Patrick did this QL instead of Alex.

If I had a Wii and a buddy to play with, I would totally get this game. But since I have neither, I am just going to cry myself to sleep with my ben & jerry's ice cream.

I have only played the original Kirby's Dream Land on the original Game Boy, when Kirby was white and didn't have Mega Man powers. I still think that was the best game on that system, which unlike this Wii Dream Land, was a very nicely balanced challenge.

I'm happy to see this new game so faithful to the details of the original, though. Epic Yarn looked great, but it seemed to miss the point that "Kirby" references Kirby brand vacuums; why be Kirby if he can't suck up enemies?

Ultimately, I wouldn't mind playing Return to Dream Land, as long as I'm not playing second player to someone who's going to tether me through the level, not letting me do anything like in this Quick Look.

Nope, you can't hop on dudes. Just because you guys keep saying "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" over and over again doesn't make it so. Anyway, it'll be sad when the DS finally dies and there won't be a platform where they can release 2D games of old except through downloadable services.

This looks pretty awesome. I like that they seem to have taken a lot of nods from Kirby's Adventure, which is probably my second favorite Kirby game after Super Star.

I could go for a new Kirby's Dream Course, though. I had a lot more fun with that game than I probably ever should have.

Actually I am kidding. As far as being an easier game/series I really like it. It is different, and they only come out every few years, and not really over done, so I am good with another one after the last Kirby.

All of Kirbys Smash Bros moves are taken from other Kirby games. What are you getting at?

Maybe you should read my post before you reply. Kirby has had the same animations since the NES days, which is were his moves from Smash Bros came from, I don't know why you are pointing it out now. And who cares if Kirby is the same model, how many variations of a 3D gumball can you make?

Ok, I'll give you a little lesson here. Bart Simpson has the same walk in every episode. He does not have the same animation in every episode. He if had the same animation in every episode, they would be copy and pasting it.

Kirby has the same attacks in every game. He does not have the same attack animation in every game. If he had the same animation in every game, they would be copy and pasting it.

In this game, they copy and pasted his animations from Brawl frame for frame. And hey, I didn't say Kirby had the same model at all. I didn't specify what models they used. I hope this teaches you about assumptions.

For the two members of the Whiskey Crew who talk up Kirby all the time, these two don't seem to have much knowledge about the older Kirby games. :\

Not saying it's a bad thing on their part, but I was having some serious nostalgia for when I played the SNES Kirby collection with my sister. I was simply struck they didn't have any recognition of all the throwback gameplay going on here.

I watched half of this thinking it was a 3DS game.

The compression on the 360p youtube version of this video looks a bit worse than the high setting on the regular player when blown up full screen. Shouldn't it at least be 480p?

Not like I'm complaining - I'm just incredibly happy to NOT have to sit through that fucking stupid 30 sec. Dead Island ad for ONCE.

Also, Ryan, NOT all Kirby games are made by Hal. Last year's Epic Yarn was made by Good-Feel. Capcom's old Flagship studio made some of the GBA or DS ones (the "traditional" platformers for those consoles, I forgot what the subtitles were). Other devs have touched the property for sure, man. Just pointing that out. Good Feel deserves credit - Epic Yarn was awesome.

Finally, Rick the Hamster is a Kirby character. Jesus Christ Ryan. If you don't know this stuff, that's fine. But don't go bullsh*tting fake facts all the time.
