@RsistncE: Thankfully the core DoTA player have migrated to Heroes of Newerth.  The League of Legends community is, so far, pretty positive.  I think the communities right now suit the games.  HoN is bad-ass and in-depth and unforgiving.  It's for serious players who want to invest a ton into the game.  LoL is more of a laid back, jump in and play experience, and the community seems to reflect that.  We'll see how that goes once the pre-season starts and stats count for real.

I never was much of a DoTA fan (Party because every time I would try to join a game on WC3 I would get kicked for not having the map.), but LoL looks like it will really get me into it.

I hardly even noticed the difference, while there might of been some funny screw ups if it was "live"...there have been a couple of RTS QL's that were not funny in any way, and they were live, so, i dont think there's anything wrong with this.  If anything Brad was able to talk and "sell" the game far better! "

well the difference with ql and after look while it is involving brad, no deaths so thats a big difference

I found it more informative in its after-look form, quick-looks are great and funny, but sometimes ambiguous. More so when they're playing a game that takes a great amount of concentration.

Start to Brad doesn't have the same punch to it with an After Look. Oh well.

Man, I think it took me about halfway through the video to realize it wasn't Warcraft 3. I don't know, when I think Warcraft I think WoW.

Though informative, this 'after-look' lacked the humor of normal quick looks. Stuff like the reaction of seeing the boy hugging his blob wouldn't happen with these 'after looks', my suggestion is to keep the humor in the quick looks and put the real information in the reviews.

Ok first off let me start with I am currently a beta tester in both HoN and LoL. I have been in both betas for 3-4 months, both games have their good things and bad things.

HoN is by far greater in its UI, game menus and ranking system currently. The graphics of HoN are nice and shiny as well, with that said those are the only good things that I can see that it has over LoL. In my personal opionon LoL is fun right from the get go, learning the game is alot easier than HoN but hard to master. In HoN the game pace seems alot slower, and group fights are kind of a cluster fuck. All the spells and things look really really cool, but most of the heroes look very similar and its hard for a newer player to even distinguish between heroes (except for the obvious ones like pudge and earthsaker magmus and a couple others.)

In LoL the heroes are easly recognized and the spell targeting area is a nice feature as well. There are a ton of noobs in this game and the matchmaking is kinda screwed up atm. With that said tho, at higher end of gaming the matches are very intense from the very start. You can definately tell a skilled player in LoL over a decent or noob player.

All in all I say give LoL a chance, its a fun game and very addictive. HoN to me is just rehashed Dota with awesome graphics. Im not saying HoN is a bad game, to me its just the same old same old thing we have in dota that is free to play.

I don't want to come off as a prick so I'll not be posting the entire list of things you COULD have done.
I reckon if you want a DotA clone without going into a community that's "elitist" League of Legends would suit you better.
Heroes of Newerth - the look of that game is superior, items and heroes are almost direct copies from Defense of the Ancients INCLUDING their strategies. God I love you Faceless Void / Chronos.

Like Whiplash931 said, HoN is an update to Defense of the Ancients. Heck, even some new features for a few heroes in HoN are taken DIRECTLY from the latest DotA version. Wildsoul + Booboo cast range for Wild much?

League of Legends is what I consider to be more fun, if I want to step up my game into extremely competitive - I'd hit Heroes of Newerth up.

HoN's community is worse but to me that is the only part of the game that is worse then LOL.  If you plan to play with friends then that isn't even an issue.  HoN has a lot more depth, hence a larger learning curve, but most I think would consider that a good thing.  I, like most hardcore gamers, aren't casual games and LOL is the more casual of the two games.   I presume if you are reading comments on Giant Bomb you are closer to a hardcore gamer then a casual gamer.

The problem right now is because of the Depth the game isn't noob friendly since you will get crushed your first 20 games learning the game.  HoN Match Maker system and improved Tier system should help that a ton though since pros will have trouble looking for gankable noobs to pad their stats.

Right now both games are in beta and free to try.  I encourage people who are interested to try both and make up their own mind.  Both games have enough of a following that which ever you choose to play won't be a bad decision in the long run.

I prefer to have the gameplayer struggling to talk and play at the same time. Also, then Dave coulda been like "oh, what's that? click on that let's see what's that do." If they just comment on a video, it seems a bit more of like power point presentation, as they move to the speed of the slides/video, not at their own pace.

Just my 2 cents.

It could still happen, because you could have another staff member watching who has yet to see the game. However, I agree you wouldn't have spontaneous moments like "Hug him again!"

I'm sure it's a lot easier to talk about the game with an after look, but there's less room for the humorous spontaneity.

sadly you have to actually play LoL to criticize it, I have played HoN and LoL and they are both fun and fast paced (brad didn't show that at all as he went with what I think is the most boring char and just killed creeps) I hope he doesn't do that with HoN quick look or I'm going to be mad, though the only thing I don't like about HoN is that half the people there speak english and the ones that do are huge assholes that scream at each other for the whole match.

I have got to say, the guy that is doing the video would fall into the category of noob in LoL terms, his buddy was getting ganked in the forest right beside him and he just stands there killing creeps. No wonder people hate LoL, the people doing the videos usually aren't that great and they make the game seem alot more simplistic and skilless.

Hon's community is full of dicks. :S I still play it though, have not bought a copy and I am not sure if I intend to. The game is really fun to play. I haven't played a dota style game and it was harsh playing the first few games. There is a match making system where you get points based on wins and lose points based on losses. Depending the players rank(forgot what its called :S), you gain or lose a certain amount. So if you play noobs all the time and crush them, you will have nothing to gain. The same is true if you lose against super hardcore pros. Of course there are stats like a kd ratio(loses-wins) and stuff. But anyway, to get to my point.

The first time I played I join a server not knowing that there are servers especially for noobs(not that it matters). I joined a server and I got flamed 24/7. There is a penalty for leaving(which builds up), so I did not want to leave. In short I lost and got flamed. A lot! Then when I figured out that there was a way to limit the number of servers shown, I joined server that were labeled 'noob only'. Of course that did not mean anything. I got flamed like all hell. People called me a feeder, which I had no clue what it meant. Later I found it, when you get killed by an enemy hero, they gain exp and a Lot of gold from you. Thats feeding :S. One thing I did not understand was, that I was in a 'noob only' server. It frustrated the fuck out of me. I talked to people in the global chats and some of them were nice enough to explain how dota works. Some recommended watching a video on youtube on HON basics, which I did. Anyway, after you the learn the game its mad fun, but the community is a bit harsh. I still join noob servers, and get called a noob and flamed. I don't understand people ><. It's a noob server for a reason! When I checked the stats of people who I played, they had over 200 games played. It was just that they had lost a lot of games and had a kd of .4 or less. People who first start to play the game get a starting ranking number of 1400(I think). And the people with over 200 games had around that amount.

I haven't played LOL yet, but I intend to. I am ranting too long, so will stop typing ><

@Xymox: HoN has recommended items now too. Although for some reason most people don't really follow them.

I think a lot of people forgot to mention that despite being a "DoTA Clone", LoL is far different from DoTA. In DoTA (and in a sense HoN), group battles and ganking are of upmost importance if you wanna be ontop of the enemy in terms of gold and levels. And these ganking battles have more emphasis on CC (crowd control) as opposed to LoL, which has more emphasis on just beating the shit out of the enemy hero as fast as you can.

Also, LoL is a lot more forgiving game in that there is no denying the enemy of XP and gold - another strategy if you want to be on top of the enemy team. HoN is alot more punshing because a mistake or two by a teammate and the game is over. LoL - not so much since there's less instances of heroes becoming invincible in late game.
