Rorie and Brad didn't really bother to explain anything about the game and just started rushing through leaving Ryan (and anyone who didn't play Magic in sophomore year) in the dark.

@Zaapp1: They have to keep it that way in case you want to interrupt any specific pump.

They were trying to rush through the first match to get to the new mode.

But sadly, Magic is a game of luck (Especially when you're using the same decks your opponent....) so bad draws kept screwing them.

After the first few losses I think they started getting frustrated and wanted to win.
