Quick Look: Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013

This is the best day ever.

Hey, does anyone know why Rorie didn't use Flame Slash in that last duel? It seems like it would have kept him alive at least a little longer.

I might have missed something, I haven't played in a while so I can't tell everything's abilities without reading them.

I missed it earlier, but about to watch it now. Two of my favorite guests in one video! Awesome.

I don't get why Matt would choose red when an 8/8 when large creatures were killing him. The black deck probably had a terror equivalent and/or regenerating creatures.

The pacing of the game just makes these games unplayable for me though. The whole matchs they play is really about 30 seconds of thought and 5 minutes of waiting.

I also think Giantbomb should hire Matt Rorie.

i might be alone in this, but half way into this video i thought, HOLY F*CK! this is the card game from Digimon World 3!

Matt Rorie shaved his legs. Maybe its that urban myth about making cyclist move faster. I'm starting to think that Brad Muir secretly lives in the Giant Bomb offices. It is a great day for a Double Golden Duder.

I think he had the idea he could burn him out before he had to worry about the 8/8, but the idea that a starter deck being designed the efficiently is hilarious.

This is going to lead GB down a dark, dark path where they start reviewing YuGiOh. Which, to be fair, I was totally into, but I outgrew that shit. Also, the show was goddamn stupid.

@Brodehouse: I suppose that makes sense, but it still is the part of the game that drags the most in an otherwise streamlined game.

I missed this live because I was playing Magic in real life. I am so glad you guys took a look at Duels, it's really a fantastic intro to the game - it got myself and a bunch of my friends into it. Ryan, you should definitely play the game and try it out, it's loads of fun. Just be careful, because it can get mighty addicting - they don't call this game "cardboard crack" for nothing. Also, the iPad version is FANTASTIC. It just feels right swiping cards around the screen to play them, I'd definitely recommend playing on the iPad if you have the option.

As a long time Magic player, this is infuriating to watch! It's like watching someone else play Trials Evolution. Rorie failed quite a few times against Garruk (and not just cus of draws).

Brad has dual hair colors, how bout that?

Either Giant Bomb needs to hire Rorie or Comic Vine needs to hire Rorie and just make him do Giant Bomb stuff on Comic Vine's dime. He's worth the investment.

Oh man, really? I never really knew that much about it, it was just a game my kid brother played (and therefore I learned to play with him), and then when friends introduced me to Magic years later it just struck me as Duel Masters for grown-ups.

Unfortunately there was no black deck unlocked at the beginning of the game. I think you get one if you pre-ordered, but Ryan only had three available: red green and blue. None of them were a great match!

I didn't watch this yet, but I'm sure it's THE BEST

Woah, I had never seen Brad Muir before. He looks hella different than I imagined. Alot older, in a good way.

That's one of the things that has always bothered me about these. In the begining your deck choices are so limited a lot of duels just come down to a coin toss. Later on when you have more decks and cards for thoes decks the deck building might help it, but even that's limited.

Sadly, as long as MTG:O is doing well, they're never going to release anything like the old MicroProse game (Or even the YuGiOh games for the DS), which is a bummer. A full Magic the gathering game would be amazing.
