Quick Look: Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond

I like the gore and body count! its nice to see games, even Matt Hazard...keep bodies and blood around.
 
If im not mistaken this game is rating pretty well.

Somebody needs to tell the Matt Hazard guys that just because your game makes fun of shitty games, that doesn't give you a pass to make your own game shitty.
 
The humor might resonate better, perhaps even carry the experience, if it was placed in a decent game. Doesn't have to be mind blowing good, just playable. As is, it just rings so hypocritical. "We know what sucks in games, but that didn't stop us from doing it exactly the same way".

I have to question their choice to make this 1,200 points.  The gameplay just looks very redundant, for cheap it may have been worth a look, but like they were saying in the QL, you'd be a lot better off getting Shadow Complex.

Is it just me or does Jeff have a tendency to be very negative on certain games from the get go?
It's like he doesn't even give them a chance. A bit unfair to the games if you ask me.

Looks kind of... dumb. There are far better ways for me to waste $15 on Xbox live. Also, I am glad the old player is back.

Shadow Complex blows this clean out of the water.

I played the demo, and while not brilliant it's not that bad. Unfortunately "it's not that bad" should never be 1200 points. When did 1200 become the new 800?

I like how the bullets come from the background look like the bullets from Contra. That's about it.

I love Eat Lead! It's better than Gears!

That's all great and dandy, but again...we're judging this game based on a Quick Look PLAYED ON THE EASIEST DIFFICULTY!  Give us a Quick Look where it's cranked up to "F that S", because I'm really curious how tough this game can be. 
 
Regardless, with Jeff saying that the control mechanics feel off, it would seem like that would play against you on the "F that S" difficulty.

a lot of people don't seem to be giving it a chance, but based on it's look and some other reviews, it isn't that bad. It isn't genius (i think I'll check out Shadow Complex first, then buy this), but it looks pretty..... it looks like mindless fun

now admittedly. a good game the blood and gore is fun to watch. the way it splatters everywhere its fun for a snowy afternoon. this game is a contra clone it best sums it up  shadow complex has a lot in common with this game the style of the game is simmuler the control skeem could be a little more tuned up its nothing that hurts the game from being playable its 1200MS Points   Quick play and leader board points adds some re-playability   Id say pick it up   its fun for what it is.   comedy and the inside jokes will have you laughing till the end.

Humor in video games is hard to pull off and parody especially.

Wow Jeff and Ryan come off pretty mean in this QL.

I kinda liked how this game riffed on Contra and Metal Slug, but I agree with Jeff: when Shadow Complex, and even Alien Hominid are available, this game just doesn't cut it.

It's like they just mixed the gameplay from Shadow Complex (minus exploration, cool weaponry and progression) the cruise level from a lot of games including Splinter Cell: double agent, and the interior copied right out of Bioshock (it even had the holes that the sisters climbs into). And the whole shoot-pipes-to-get-the-water-flowing was also in Shadow Complex. This game seems like a rip-off at any angle you look at it, but thats what they're trying to accomplish...right?  
Protip: You want a f**kin awesome sidescrolling shooter, get Shadow Complex!

(oh, btw: if the idea off Matt Hazard is to parody a lot of overused videogame stereotypes, then why did they put in the environment of Bioshock which has only been used once in a spectacular fashion?)

I'm a big fan of Matt, but his games have been decent fair. Nothing incredible, but good mindless fun. The jokes in the first one were fantastic as well as the voice acting (Neil Patrick Harris!) but it wasn't worth the initial 60 bucks. (I picked it up for $10 on new egg, but I would have easily payed 30/40 for it.) The same happens here, I think 9.99 would have been the sweet spot. I'm going to get it at 15 anyway because I really like Hazard, and I'm a sucker for co-op, but I really think 10 would of been the sweet spot.

it's rare to get a game that outright 'weird al's' the video game industry.
 
i hope this does well because with some more creatives behind it, this could be a very very smart and unexplored way to go for video game fun.

I´m just here to fill in some gaps. the "female animation pirates" all walk like Jack Sparrow. They got that drunken, nonchalant walk. Thats kinda cool I guess.

Self awareness in games is fun at times, but this is just embarrassing

They totally missed out on having guys you shoot on the high dive falling into that shallow ass pool to die doing belly flops, cannon balls, and breaking their necks diving into the pool.

I enjoyed this, if Shadow Complex were on PS3 I'd probably never think of buying this but as it is, I'm tempted.

I really would like Matt Hazard to be good.  Like the Naked Gun of Video Games.
 
I played the demo.  A lot, in fact.  It kept kicking me out, but I played all the levels they offered.  There were moments.  The SMB blocks were a nice moment.  And the fact that the slow bullets do the same rainbow-glow flash of old contra bullets... nice touch.
 
But there are only touches.  There is no cohesion.  If you're going to have Matt Hazard play through different video games, they have to be art directed cohesively.  Fine, if you want samey-shooting to be the mechanic everywhere, that's fine.  
 
But the fiction of Matt Hazard seems to suggest that every level is from ONE game, and every one is a different game.  That leaves room for loads of jokes!  There are enough games in every genre that rip each other off... Gears Parodies along with Halo and Mass Effect would all roughly fit together... but Mario doesn't belong in a level with Yo Fiddy Hit  That Ramp Helicopters.   All of these levels look like they're from a Matt Hazard game... and that's not what you told me I was in for...
 
I can see they've attempted cohesion, but they couldn't think of enough jokes, so they started... 
 
Ok, I can't believe I just typed all of this.  Maybe it's because my name is also Matt.  For 400 pts, I'd buy it.  It's not so bad.  But 1200?  Are you tihssing me?

I don't particularly care about this whole "It's been done, now It sucks" 'tude.
Then again, I don't care about this game. 
Entertaining QL though, being that Jeff and Ryan were just as repetitive as the game they were playing.

thanks after watching that quick look I took the money I would have used on Matt Hazard and added five dollars then bought Trine. Thanks Giant Bomb, you are really looking out for the people.

Usually I am not a fan of games that use video game flaw references as an excuse for bad gameplay, but this looks rather funny and cool, and for $15 I may check it out.
