Quick Look: Metro 2033

i love the look of the weapons in this game

this had to be QL'd on with PC...sometimes i do agree, you guys are getting too console centric. I understand the orientation these days, and they did after all put it out on the x-box 360 but hey, didn't you just upgrade your pc for just this? As far as I'm concerned, this is a bit like the old days with gaming, consoles can only hope to approximate. True mabe, Pc gaming is killing itself, but thats not the issue here. 
 
Iv`e got the now old 6850 extreme, and 2 8800 ultras, and I obviously can`t get dx11. but i bet it will look much better than this,and except for framerate, this looked pretty good!

I've heard very little about this game, everyone knows that the premise is the bullets are money AND real bullets that do more damage. duh.

Did you guys miss the part where dave said his pc is broke? It's like you're not even listening. Also, he wasn't playing the game in the most methodical way, so that he could show us more of the game.

Playing through the game right now, and aw man. I really, really like it.

That was pretty interesting.

The reason this was done on the 360 version is simple. My PC at home is currently busted. New parts shipping soon. But yes, as mentioned at the end, I'd recommend playing the PC version if you can.
 
Thanks for the tip on the pristine bullets. I never actually never noticed that. 
 
As for me going Rambo in the stealth bit... yeah, no excuse for that! To be fair, that's the first bit in the game (3-4 hours in) where stealth is even required. You get a little distracted when you're trying to talk your way through a methodical combat FPS. That frame-rate though... well, you can't blame me for that!

I love the map in Far Cry 2, looking down at in the car was never a hassle, i played the PC version so maybe thats why? mouse movement yo.

His private PC has nothing to do with the office PC. They were just too lazy/ignorant to fire it up or they didn't get a PC review copy in the first place (the one Jeff waved around in a recent video was the 360 version).  As for the game: Looks a lot like Stalker, which I am not very fond of. I guess I just don't like that "cold" style. "

This game looks badassed.

this is weird...im watching the endurance run for the first time, yes im way behind everyone else, and im on episode 85, and i watched this right before that, and on both videos the start doing the cheers theme song. just found that really odd

So I was right about the borked PC, check and mate atomic_dumpling!

I like it, but a big part of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s charm was the open emptiness of it.  It was basically Fallout 3 before Fallout 3, just mad broken and Russian as fuck.  This feels like a side story to it, with a much more focused and linear path guiding you, but still broken and Russian.  I'll probably pick it up, but I'll wait for the inevitable sale price that these games seem to quickly arrive at.
 
I'm a bit upset it wasn't a proper PC QL, while it is on 360 (why I don't know) it's very much a PC gamers game, and should be shown as such.

the good bullets are pre war bullets that are more powerfull and they can be used as money or used in some guns giving more power.

The other bullets and most guns have been made after the war in the metro.

I'm playing the 360 version of this game as well, and I haven't had any noticeable framerate issues at all, even during big firefights (I'm also currently on that Frontlines level). Seeing it slow down like that was surprising.  

Nice QL, though. I've been loving this game so far. It's definitely rough around the edges but the overall experience is extremely good.

 Been playing this on my i7 920 OC'd to 4GHz w/ a GTX260/216 and 9GB of RAM.  At the 1920x1080 I'm used the play at, heavy fight scenes kill the framerate, but I dumped it down to 1280x800 with everything maxed and it looks really good.  At some point I'll get a 2nd GTX260 for SLI and hopefully it'll make games like this run a lot better at higher resolutions.  This is an awesome game tho to be sure.

As a matter of fact, the lighter DOES light up the journal in dark places. 
 
...and it DOES make sense, they're not "pristine" bullets, they're MILITARY GRADE bullets, that's why they're worth more than the crap bullets.

Why do I get a feeling that most of GB staff is biased against Eastern European games?  
 
Oh no something different than blindly running from A to B and shooting things in the face, better make fun of it and criticize every minor aspect. 
 
And when this game - a linear shooter but with added atmosphere - comes along, they still manage to make it look like ass.  
 
I like Eastern European games. They are usually buggy, sure, but they also don't hold your hand every inch of the way. They will murder you if you are stupid and they ooze of cool little touches. Bullets for  currency are an awesome idea given the context. The story in Cryostasis is cool as hell and makes you think (!). STALKER and its sequels are difficult because they try to be realistic, a concept lost on those who only ever play Modern Warfare and its ilk.  
 
In short, it's good to read the back of the box and the tutorial messages, instead of going "Pfft I got this" and then claim the game is faulty because you don't know how to use the ammunition properly or how to stay quiet in a stealth area.

This game is much, much better than it seems to have gotten credit for in this QL.  I guess it is kinda hard, though, to convey a game like this which is all about the moody, tense, atmosphere while chatting about it at the same time.

I'm actually glad I didn't buy this. This game looks like ass.

I really regret my initial rant now. Those are the trappings of yeh olde internet, my friends …  Game looks interesting by the way, but from what I read about the PC version, my rig won't be able to handle it on full detail which is a bummer.

 Should have played the PC version definately...much much better in looks, and controls.
 
Also, theres a reason the shotgun has independent barrel firing...its much more controlled and yields better results  to fire one barrel at a time then go running around double barreling everything.
 
Quite a bit of false information (already mentioned in comments) and missed gameplay elements (medkits, stealth action etc) in this QL, but still good to see it getting some screen time.

ahhh, I'm torn on this game. PC QL would have made it easier for me to have a bearing on my decision, but this is better than nothing. I imagine it looks better on PC, but the gameplay here didn't really drive me to wanna go out and buy this game.

God, that running animation is hilarious. I already have this game coming my way but now I'm feeling a little regret. Based on the reviews I have read and some of the stuff in the QL, it seems like it's a solid game but is definitely rough around the edges. It'll probably be on sale somewhere before I even have a chance to get around to playing it anyway. With all the comparisons to STALKER and Fallout 3, I am a little disappointed to hear it's a completely linear game.

Well I found a site that sells PC Steam keys for $36 USD, but it's an Australian site and I live in the US. Plus that's the pre-order price and I don't know if it will go up once it goes on sale there. But the site only sells cd keys so most things are pretty cheap by comparison. 
 
Yes they're legit and I bought my BF2 key from them for like $16 a while back, but I knew that thing would be region free. The site shows the UK box as the art though, and it's a Steam key so I'm wary as to whether I should get it from them since I'm in the US.

Dave you should try the circular style for your inventory 

It's worth a rent. The lack of Multiplayer doesn't sell it for me.
