To have at least one on topic post, this game looks like a bummer. As a fan of 2D platformers, it sucks that Mario is just kind of meh now. I stopped at World 7 in NSMB Wii. Luckily, I've gotten Rayman Origins, Ms Splosion Man and DKCR this gen.

I wonder if they confused Mario with Wario during the development of this or something.

This might be the first Mario game that I have absolutely no enthusiasm for. It's a weird (lack of a) feeling.

Everything about this just seems so middling. Wasted co-op potential, and nothing terribly new.

All this apathy about this game is bizarre simply because this is EXACTLY how I felt about that lazy bullcrap Wii game. I just beat it with my brother just to say that I beat it, but it was totally stupid. I liked the DS original, but this series should not be a series.

Now Super Mario Galaxy. That's a real game I could see more of and not be sick of it.

Hate to say it but I think Nintendo needs to take a break from Mario. Churning out these "New" games has made the series very dull to me. For a long time the main Mario games had something fresh, but not so much anymore.

This game looks bad. I hope the WiiU version is better because watching this made me want to fall asleep.

Jeff's comment on Sonic was amazing.

This doesn't look that exciting, it's a shame after they just released 3D Land which was great.

I would play the shit out of a New Super Mario World.

I also agree that these new games are way too similar to Mario 3 to be interesting.

Some people will argue that they are fun because they are like classic Mario, but that's just it: Classic Mario always changed significantly between games! 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> World -> Yoshi's Island: each was incredibly different from the last.

I thought Super Mario 3D Land was cool because it was almost a 3D Mario game with powerups that were not necessary to beat a level but made getting through it easier (something that the 3D Mario games have never done, disappointingly).

If they could bring that into the next Mario Galaxy as well as online Co-op I would be a jolly man indeed.

God I hate that soundtrack. It's making me physically ill with all its, "Bah baaaaaaaah"-ing. Fuck you, disembodied MIDI assholes.

Am I the only one who thinks we should take Mario in back of the shed and put him out of his misery.

Seriously, it's the same stuff over and over. The same level layout, characters, story, etc... If any other game did this they would be hammered in a review. I am curious to see what this game gets.

Man, Mario really needs to be Mario again. Reinvent something! Try new formulas! This is the first Mario game that I honestly have no desire to play. It just looks so boring, and the whole coin hook is already making me feel annoyed.

The first game where Mario flip jumped after getting a star was Super Mario Bros. 3. So its pretty well established.

Wow this is boring, and Nintendo will make millions off it. *Sigh*

I wish I could do something slightly different now, and then, and be a millionaire. I'd put sugar on my cereal every day.

BUT THE GODDAMN SCREENS ARE 90% BIGGER! THAT'S 190% MORE MARIO.

They kept saying you lose your progress if you don't quick save, but it DID save Jeff's progress after he played that first level. I wonder if there's some quirk to it that makes it not save sometimes.

I've been on the fence about getting this. This video has definitely helped me make up my mind.

I really wish we could get another Mario World style game or another truly 3D game with the emphasis on exploring the levels and discovering secrets, like 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. I'm done with Mario until then.

World was awesome because it was a world man. Hidden paths, secret exits, coloured blocks. All that jazz made it so much better.

I've hated the New Super Mario Bros. music since the first game. My opinion hasn't changed. Between the wahs and the fact that so much of it is just remade (and often very shitty) versions of old Mario songs, I just can't stand it. Nostalgia only goes so far, but Nintendo pushes that shit so fucking hard. We get it: the Mario music was iconic. Now make some new fucking music for your games, please.

This just looks so uninspired. The Mario games of the past didn't reuse a visual style for three games. And am I the only one who thinks that the NSMB games don't even handle that well?
