Quick Look: Okamiden

Okami was awesome.  If this is more of the same, I'm totally in.

Having played about an hour of this game, I have to agree that the lack of camera control and the fidelity of the graphics make it sort of hard to play. 
 
I think in the end, I'd rather just play Okami again.

Aw man, this Quick Look kinda bummed me out. I'm currently 16 hours into Okamiden and it's so damn good! 

This QL made me decide to buy Okamiden.

Cool! Really liked Okami on Wii.

I love Giant  Bomb and I adore Okami; but I couldn't finish this Quick Look. It seems like Ryan has developed pretenses towards the game and is much too harsh with it without really wanting to learn about it. That's way too bad =(

i haven't use a GBA in ages but since i used the 3DS  the regular DS graphics now reminds of GBA quality

Looks like someone isn't very much into side quests and exploration in this Quick Look. It's a bit annoying, considering it's pretty much like the Zelda games, with more dialog among other minor differences, and Ryan is trying to play it like a linear "go here and do this" game.

IMO this game could have been better off on a console or something. So far I've been having quite a few frame lag issues, 16 hours in. Otherwise it's a good game, never had  any confusion on the Brush skills besides the fact I draw too fast so the game goes "lol didn't count, draw slower".
 
Decent quick look, though.

What is with dumping "sequels" to neat games on handhelds? They could have had a visually stunning title on PS3, or even Wii. Valkyria Chronicles 2 on PSP is a crock, too.
 
I'm not saying that the games aren't good on handhelds. But did anyone play the original and think, "this is swell, but what I really need is a smaller, technically pared down version!" Make all the spinoffs you like, but shoehorning the whole franchise onto handhelds really disappoints me.

I'm not sure if it's cool or just really lazy that they just straight up ripped off Okami's opening. I love Okami to death, it's one of my all time favorite games, but I really think a sequel to it(on the DS mind you) is a bad idea. It was such a grand and epic adventure it deserves to be on consoles.
 
EDIT: I also don't like how you're now a small, short puppy compared to a badass wolf in the first game.

Finally! Okamiden content!

Man, I really liked the majority of Okami, it's just...the game was so slow paced at times and was frikking long as hell (Took me around 60 hours to finish, though I am usually slow), so I'm not sure if I'd be up with doing it all again, especially with less visual flare, choppier character models and animations. 
 
Besides it all wrapped up so well.

Am I the only one kinda creeped out they rendered the sun gods butthole?

I am a jerk, it seems, since i didn't like the first Okami... The game was kind of fun, but i couldn't stand the drawing requirements the game had (i ran into a cut scene which resulted in me trying to draw circles (it wouldn't accept the ones i was drawing) for about half an hour before i gave up and return the game... It was similar to Ryan's bridge problems, but i didn't have a Vinny... so yeah... i never got past it).

Best part is when Vinny says "a chibi body."

I've been enjoying this game lately, but the start of the QL reminded me how finicky the brush gestures can be sometimes. 
 
It's a shame we couldn't get a full-fledged Okami sequel on a console, but Okamiden scratches the itch pretty well. It has its issues in the conversion to the handheld, but fun overall, and I would recommend folks check it out if they want some more Okami action.

It's a shame that the first game didn't sell so well. It would have been great to see a sequel on current consoles.

This seems like it would benefit from a locked top-down perspective. Not having camera control is mad disorienting sometimes.

I agree with Vinny. The first game was pretty, with its original art style. This right here, though....
 
This shit's ugly.

Looks like it could be fun, but the utter lack of camera controls turns me off of this considerably.

This is just bad timing. I could see the Okami art style really benefiting from the 3DS. Oh well, it at least looks fun.

I've really got pick this up. This, or Monster Tale. i already got WWE All Stars this week. Don't have the cash to be spending on TWO more games now. Even if they are for DS...
Really weird. It's the frickin' DS. NO game should come out and face competition. Especially with the 3DS out now. But having quality titles like Pokemon Black/White, Okamiden and Monster Tale all come out within a month of each other? That's just stupid timing on SOMEONE'S part.

Perhaps this Quick Look captured a non-ideal segment of the game, but this looks incredibly dull to me.

Have you never had a sibling or a friend who you played video games with?  Video games are interactive, so when you see someone doing something wrong in a game many gamers' instincts are to be all "here, let me do it for you." When it's a video, you can never say that, so there's frustration.

Kind of annoying that every other quick look seems to misrepresent the game they're trying to show. I understand the concept behind quick looks, and I know I should not expect them to give me the full picture, but at least get the basic stuff right. 
 
If you know you're going to do a quick look of a game, then pay attention during the intro cinematic ! That way you won't be saying the game takes place 9 months after Okami when it's 100 years ! 
 
I'm nitpicking, it's not that big a deal. The important thing is to see the game in action. I'm just saying there's room for improvement. :)
