Today is a great day for the first quest, lol!

I played the multiplayer beta and it was fun, don't know if I can jump in to this game though since I 've never played the first two.

Cant wait for the weekend!

Thanks for the informative quick look (and review), Patrick! I'm glad you are well-versed in the fiction, I find the premise to be really neat as well.

I was a little worried about this game after R2, but this looks gorgeous and quite fun; it seems like they fixed a lot of the design mis-steps from the previous game.

Sorry, but I don't care how well this game reviews, I'm completely off the series after Resistance 2. I like Insomniac but it's time to move on from what is a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.

At least as far as pure graphical quality is concerned, games like this don't make me pine for a new console generation yet (although I'm aware of the other advantages).

For some reason I just don't care about this game.  It looks good and I like FPS games...suppose it's just knowing that Rage & BF3 are coming soon.

I have never been interested in any of the Resistance games but this is tempting me to pick up all 3.

@Hector: you dont need to play the first two, and too be honest i'd argue its you would be better not too.

I was gonna get this, and then I wasn't, and then I did.

Giant Bomb seems easily impressed. I'm not saying Resistance 3 isn't good looking, but it's just an FPS. They have been many, MANY developers who have nailed amazing tech with their FPS' before. Especially THIS year. Killzone 3, Crysis 2, Portal 2 - are they going to act like this when they QL Rage, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3? Probably. *Sigh*. The "post apocalypse" aesthetic is so boring these days. EVERY shooter, it seems, finds a way to utilize the brown color palette, and incorporate destroyed buildings. Deus Ex has a much more interesting visual design - why doesn't art design get more credit over tech?
 
They're making a HUGE deal over what looks to be a pretty by-the-numbers linear, heavily scripted, cover system free but still "stop and pop" style shooter....COD with aliens. At least it has cool aliens and guns, and of course it's well made. But still. "Dime a dozen" people.
 
You know what would be cool to see though? Since Giantbomb is so convinced this is much better looking than Resistance 2, why not do a side-by-side comparison Quick Look? Like when they run PC and Xbox versions side-by-side; compare current sequels with the last sequels for series like this. It would be cool, I think. You guys didn't even Quick Look Resistance 2...
 
Oh and props to Patrick. After that week of horrible Ryan and Brad-heavy Quick Looks, it's REALLY nice to see someone be able to play and talk at the same time. Be knowledgeable about a game AND play it well!?! Madness. I thought that it was IMPOSSIBLE! XD

Looks like this suffers from the same bullet sponge issues the first two had.  The Resistance games just drag and are made artificially hard by requiring you to shoot enemies a gazillion times, instead of having actual challenging or smart enemies to fight.  It's a shame, since the fiction has always seemed pretty rad to me.

had a little tiff with someone today that insisted this game looks like crap. I swear some people just refuse to give it a chance for whatever reason. I think it looks great. 

I have a hard time accepting "R2" as shorthand for Resistance 2. Was very confused as to why Patrick was talking Star Wars at the beginning of this Quick Look.

I enjoyed RFOM but after playing it recently I realised that because it was a launch title it got cut some slack, I simply hated R2 played several hours and it felt like a chore the whole time, Having the story told through collectibles is easily IMO the worst/laziest way to tell a story. 
 
With that being said I had no plan on buying R3 and i skipped over all R3 content thinking Insomniac on the same dev cycle pushes out games when its clear they need more time to make a really good game, Even after reading several positive review I still had no interest in this game as I read positive reviews on R2 and look how that turned out, But damn that quicklook has impressed me and its clear the 3 year dev cycle has paid off with what looks like a nicely polished game, Was picking up dead island on friday and sticking R3 in my rental cue but after this I may switch it around and buy R3.

I don't know about Resistance 2 being utter shit Mr. Davis, well...maybe specifically the single player, I could see why you could walk away with that opinion. If anyone is curious, Vinny's review of Resistance 2 sums it up pretty well.

Loved Brad's appreciation of what happens when developers get the time and money to make a big PS3 game. Their big retail exclusives really are unique art & fidelity wise compared to Microsoft's exclusives of Forza, Fable, Gears of War, Alan Wake and Halo (I miss one?).

Also interesting that they were so wowed by the games lighting in the diner. That river boat demo they showed off about four months ago was just as polished and wowed me in the same way. Before that the wonderfully directed live-action teasers totally got me in the mind set that Insomniac was going for something really atmospheric. Seriously the Southern Gothic setting for this game is a stunner. I urge everyone with a PS3 to consider this game, heck think about it in 2012 if you're bored. Because I know this year is crowded with great releases already. Unless you're not shooting monsters I guess.

As much as I normally dislike motion comics, something about the stuff at the start of this game is great.

Ugh, motion comics. There is nothing that makes me want to play a game less. Might sound petty, but they're the main reason I didn't finish infamous. Let the comics remain in comics, and videogames stick to video. The actual cut-scenes of the game look really nice though.

Who was making a huge deal? No one was gushing, no one was overly excited. Aside from the lighting, which legitimately looked good, the general impression they gave off was, "Hey, this looks like a pretty good fps." Or are they not allowed to have moderately positive thoughts about a linear shooter anymore?

This looks awesome, but I'm going to take this opportunity to say:  I'm so fucking tired of large, red, glowing weak spots on enemies.  I swear, most shooters with massive boss monsters have large red or orange weak spots and it's quite old.

At first I was talking shit in chat about this being identical to Gears Of War 3 as a joke, but the plot points match up pretty fucking exactly. It's a little too perfect.

Great that this is nothing like R2. Though the co-op from R2 was brilliant.

The bleak and desperate struggle for survival that this game is trying to portray is somewhat ruined by the fact people are just wasting tons of ammo down firing ranges and that there's a constant resupply of ammo around every corner, not to mention you're carrying 10 guns and 300 bullets for your assault rifle at nearly all times.

Hmm...this is the 3rd GB video I've seen in the past 2 weeks where the audio is out of sync. is just me, or is anyone else seeing it as well?

Wow. That looks really good. Now I feel like I need to keep going with the Resistance games. I've (surprisingly) beaten all of them so far including the PSP game as well. Those games were always awkward to me, in a way I can't explain. They were good, but awkward.
