Visuals look really good, not a big fan of switching between light and dark on the fly though.

I have a feeling this is one of those games where the final level is infuriatingly hard due to having to switch every other second.

Probably my favorite Quick Look Road Show. Interesting game. I love Ikaruga, even though I suck at it. This looks a bit more manageable.

Yeah! I really dig this. In parts, it seems that the gameplay is constructed as a vehicle for the outstanding art style, but that's totally fine. I've got a soft spot for games that have unique, artistic visuals, and on that front it looks like the game will deliver in spades. The fact that the gameplay looks pretty compelling on its own terms doesn't hurt, either.

it has a cool style to it, and nice mix of components, not sure if I like how the movement looks though.

Quick look road show was definitely needed to showcase the game, since in the hands of the GB regulars the game would have been utter pandemonium with the guys looking to sabotage any form of progress betweem each other.

Also we need more Brad doing QLs.

It seems to me that this game would've been much more appealing from a first person perspective, with full control in 3 dimensional space. That means the x, y, and z axes. Scrolling along the side just isn't nearly as fulfilling or modern.

At least for me it's hard to grasp (quickly at least) that you must match the color for platforms and mostly "good" things, and use the opposite color for enemies. Obviously I'll see when I play it but it just looks a little jarring to remember on the fly. Although, I'm sure with time it becomes second nature.

Love the look of the game, and I'm glad it's not far away.

Well, in March I had purchased PixelJunk Shooter 2, Moon Diver, Vagrant Story, and Slam Bolt Scrappers. This month, I'll be buying Arcana Heart 3, possibly 3rd Birthday, and Outland.
I also feel PSN offers some unique gems that hardly anyone knows about. For instance, Crescent Pale Mist is a fantastic downloadable title for only $6, and it offers a lot of exploration, fun combat, and challenge.

Being in first person would be cause too many situations of "what color am I?". Having a view from the side allows you to see which colors you should be switching to at all times. Trying to create that in first person would be awkward.

And I completely disagree with your statement of side scrollers not being modern or fulfilling. Have you not played Super Meat Boy? Shadow Complex? Super Metroid? Any of the Castlevania DS games?

Well... I suppose it could be from a third person perspective. Then you could see what color you were.

And no, I haven't played Super Meat Boy or Shadow Complex. They're all too sidescroll-y for me. I've been too busy playing Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2 and RDR and War for Cybertron and Monday Night Combat and other modern 3D games that take advantage of all three axes, just like real life. Why limit yourself to two dimensions? We're all used to operating our bodies in three dimensions, so why not allow that freedom and flexibility in games as well? It works well for the games I listed.

I'm not limiting myself to a two dimensions. I choose to play it, and people choose to make them, because some games just work better like that. Or maybe it's a style choice. If anything, you're limiting yourself on great games you could be playing.

You're kind of like those weird people who wont watch a movie if it's in black and white, or subtitled. Why not try opening yourself up for more different types of games? Who knows, maybe you'll find something you never thought you'd like.

The first video games I ever played were 2D games, like Super Mario Bros and Megaman and Mortal Kombat. They never interested me. I just thought they were kinda boring and not particularly fun to play. It wasn't until I played Wolfenstein 3D and Doom that I realized that video games could be fun and something of a hobby to get involved in. It's just a matter of taste.

it works to an extent. But this game is obviously not trying for realism. Games do not need to be in three dimensions to be fun or good. War for Cybertron and Monday Night combat are examples of terrible games, I don't know why you'd use those as examples.

This is a modern 2D game. The graphical effects are very nice and present a fluid beautiful screen to look at. Also, the game play displayed in this game is far more modern than a game like Crysis 2 or Mass effect 2.

RDR being the exception here, obviously, because it's pretty much the best game of last year. That being said, there's nothing new about it's game play and I certainly wouldn't call it modern. Shadow Complex and Super Meat Boy definitely sit toe and toe with Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space 2. A game like Braid would sit with RDR in terms of quality as well.

Perspectives allow for a different view of a world. The quality of the world, the story, the visual elements that make up that world are not "limited" by the view. Sure, it works for those games because those games are designed and programmed to work with that perspective. This game is not, and would be ruined with that perspective.

You should look more into the "limitations" of you own view of "modern" video games instead of limitations transposed into the world by perspective.

I'm not going to say a whole lot about this game, I haven't played it. Just like novels and movies the perspective used is part of the way a story is told. Limitations are brought in by the viewer, not the creator. Some of the best books ever told are through the third person perspective and have no "view" at all,  yet they are just as important.

This is a long response, but I really dislike the nature of your post. You might be a young gamer who's never experienced a game in 2D, but generally speaking the quality of the "experience" and "atmosphere" has been on the decline since the 3d era. There are a number of fantastic games that break that trend certainly, but it remains true. In third person this game would be no where near as good as it is in 2d. That is fact. you can not make a third person 3d platformer that expresses what this game wishes to do. That being said, games like Ratchet and Clank are fantastic and do that genre justice for sure.

To sum it up, don't impose limits on yourself. The game play in this looks to be fantastic, loads more fun than some of the games you listed.

Why are all modern 2D games going with sillhouette backgrounds? Because it's way easier to design than the alternative? Come on people, show some effort.

Game doesn't look too bad though was instantly thinking of the 1980s film outland before turning on the quick look then was disappointed slightly the game wasn't tied more to the setting that film used.

@JohnPaulVann: I agree that we've probably seen too much of the silhouetted 2D style over the past year or two but I think it fits this game well. When this game really gets crazy (which I hope it will) the art style will really help your current "polarity" stand out.
