So much of my mid childhood splayed out like a small freakshow. This stuff was golden. This was stronger than nintendos stuff, right? Right?

I played Alex Kidd on my Master System often and I seem to remember a different first level. Maybe the European version is different? Or my memory just doesn't hold up.

Some surprisingly pleasant music in these old games.

I had a startling realisation during this video, that I've actually played a Shinobi game on the Mega Drive; not sure which one but the one in this QL looks very familiar. I never actually owned the system, but a friend of mine had it (not that I even knew what it was called at the time) and I would occasionally go to his place and play his games.

Whenever something triggers my very vague memories of those games to resurface, I feel really proud of myself cause I've always thought that I didn't play any games of that era.

Hey the Master System was the dominate 8-bit system here in Europe! It has a proud history of being looked down upon by Commodore 64 owners!

I haven't played them since I was eight years old and at a friend's house, but I recall forming the opinion that Alex Kid was a poor man's Super Mario Bros. and Revenge of Shinobi was a rich man's Wrath of the Black Manta.

Why does this exist when Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection already exists? With way more games.

I really wish they had included Wonder Boy 3 in the collection instead of 4. WB3 was a fantastic game, and I think it would hold up pretty good today. Sadly I still have my old cartridges in storage, but no system to play them on. Think it's 'bout time I hit up the ebayz and get me another SMS.

Was one of them Monster World IV? In English? Ultimate Genesis Collection was also Backbone, who are known for half-assing that kind of stuff; these newer Vintage Collection releases are by a Japanese developer called M2, who Nintendo hires to write all of their Virtual Console emulators. They are skilled and obsessed with accurate emulation, and the emulation in these releases here is way higher quality than anything Backbone ever put out (especially in the sound department; Backbone always horrifically mangled their Genesis sound emulation).

I've played most of the games on that collection a lot and I never noticed any problems with the sounds. Especially in SoR 2, where I would definitely notice it. What is the price of this?

Ah yes, I remember the Master System days. I even remember seeing Alex Kidd in a Toys'R'Us shop and distinctively remember seeing that ghost that kept on killing you. Hang-on was indeed a pack-on with the Master System as well as a shooting game as well. Used to play it round my cousin's house. Shinobi and Super Hang-On look pretty cool, but not so much with the other games.

I think it's $10 for each pack of three games.

That Shinobi music was effing great. It's too bad when I had a Genesis I had no money whatsoever, and my dad bought us exactly 0 games (a little bit of Funcoland manipulation was all we had, so our games got progressively worse until we got our own cash).

Well if these titles are $5 each on PSN, that's still better than the Wii Virtual Console prices. $9 for MW4, but it did get released there 2 weeks ago... :/

@EndrzGame: You can get Monster LairandDragon's Trap on Wii Shop Virtual Console.

Damn son, that's harsh. At least you can ask him what the problem was. ;)

@MasturbatingestBear: Because none of these games are on that collection?

@piderman: And Vic Viper, which is Latin for fuck your shit up.

@BeachThunder: Thanks for that. ;)

Too bad they didn't put these together with other Sega games to another Sega collection on disc. Liking the platform 3d presentation in the menus over just looking at the name of the game with maybe a screenshot.

Agree. MS was amazing. Atleast for me. Never had a fond thingy for SMB(Though i loved smb 2(nonjapan) and SMB3) I can say that it annoys me that they hit AKIM so hard. It was a fun game back in 86. And i played that game for ages.
