@floofmania: Are there to be mods in this Simcity?? That would actually make me preorder this right the f*ck now.

@floofmania said:

can't wait until modders free up the size restrictions and make the close-up view look like GTAIV+icenhancer

I'm ready to bet that the code and feature set of the game is on complete lockdown behind the always on drm. I'm sure there will be no mods or cheats or cracked copies since half the content/processing is server side

Please please PLEASE do an Encyclopedia Bombastica or a Random PC Game (or even Flight Club) of SimCopter, and Streets of SimCity. Both allow you to do stuff in cities you built in SimCity 2000 or constructed in the SCURK. This week is the week to do it.

The cities are so small, jesus. No-buy for me.

Maybe at some point someone will find a way to make big cities. Until then I'll wait.

I was really looking forward to this game but finding out that the terraforming isn't that deep and the city size is really limited I'm kind of bummed out.

They could totally make up for all of this if they rebooted Simcopter and Streets of Sim City and let you import your regions into the game like they did with Sim City 2000.

I'd like to get it... But I don't trust the developer. I'm not talking EA, I'm talking Maxis.

Despite having a powerhouse computer, I can't run the Sims 3. All their auto detect settings bullshit doesn't allow me to change my settings. And after trying for weeks, I gave up on it. I have little to no faith that Simcity will work on my computer... A feeling I don't think I've had with any other game. I don't trust Maxis to ship a non-broken game, so I'm gonna skip it.

thats really strange, i have a mid range pc which allowsme to play games but not at the best quality even with amount of issues i have with my bulldozer processor I can play the sims just fine on the higher settings.

I agree... It is very strange. I'm kinda flabbergasted that it's busted. I don't think I've had problems with a PC game in years. By my perspective, they've been damn stable nowadays. Sims 3 is a few years old and the pedigree says it should be solid. But the game straight up doesn't work. And a combination of forums, tech support and the fact that I'm a freakin' game developer couldn't fix it. The game don't work. And I don't want to risk my money on their next game. Plus... the cities look small.

SimCity and Colonial Marines are both examples of why you shouldn't pre order games that you haven't seen a lot about.

I can't believe they took out terraforming.

Fuck that shit.

For me that's the big drawback, not the limited city size. How hard would it have been for them to include a tool for creating your own region, with terraforming? It just doesn't make any sense to me. Playing on already-existing maps just about kills replayability. I hope they have some sort of fix planned for this.

I was pretty excited for this until the quick look. The region specific building kills it for me. But the multiplayer stuff is pretty cool, so I still might check it out.

This is... ugh. I really like some of the changes they've made here but the insanely small city size ruins any interest I had in actually getting it. I don't want to play 16 tiny villages, I want to play 1 giant city. The public regions thing I'm not so sure about. It might be fun if you have a bunch of friends doing the same thing but I don't think I trust random people not to just leech off everything...

I bet they do. It's called map pack DLC.

Don't forget it's EA running the show after all.

It wouldn't feel like SimCity if the road pathing/drawing wasn't janky. That said, it should be fixed.

I wasn't planning on buying it in the first place, because EA, but I still had a mild curiosity in how this would turn out. This video really deflated what meager interest I had.

This version seems to miss the point. If I can't work over time to build a massive megalopolis with cascading skylines, then what's the end goal here? The collective project thing just seems so artificial; there's nothing to be gained if it's just a sterile monument that sits outside your city.

I'm sure the game is still fun but.. if they're just going to keep cutting features in sequels to later sell as DLC, count me out. I've had enough of that in The Sims already.

A ten year old game is still superior. I see nothing here that convinces me to stop playing Sim City 4. That's pretty sad, really. All I wanted was an expanded or more detailed Sim City. This game is not it. (At least what I see here)

I'm excited for this game. City size is disappointing, although I am quite surprised it's a hard limit imposed. Unlock larger cities? Some future update? I hope?... haha. Infinite sprawling expanse is where it's at!

Yikes. I love the tilt-shift and general visual style, but the tiny cities and no terraforming kills it for me

i'm guessing the heavy micro detail (all the people/cars/nuances in the buildings) is what limited the city sizes in the end (though you think the engine could be scaled to accommodate for that...)

The tiny city issue is literally the only thing preventing me from buying this game. Everything else looks great, but those plots are soooo fucking tiny.

Looks...unfinished. It seems like the core systems of the game is great, but the lack of terraforming, large scale cities, and more makes me want to wait for a more complete version before even trying it.

I love how the region maps look like good ol' JRPG overworld maps though. Pretty awesome on the art style front.

I swore up and down after Diablo III that I'll never buy another game that has DRM like that and I meant it.

is this because of the couple or so hours that you couldn't play it right when it was released?

or when you were out in the middle of the Appalachian forest and decided to whip out the laptop for a quick game of D3?

sure it's a limitation but if you're having that many issues getting a stable internet connection you may have bigger problems than always-on DRM.

@lozz: I did the same, I don't care so much about terraforming but the tiny cities and the general middling reaction its getting from people early on got me to cancel mine.

Hilarious quicklook. Looks I'm going to be waiting for the mod community to get it's hands on this first before I pick it up. I'll check out Cities XL in the meantime. That zombie attack was pretty sweet, though.

Damn duder, that's pretty ignorant.

We don't all live in a dream world where internet is a 100% guarantee. Is my bigger problem where I was born or where my parents emigrated to? Is my bigger problem the shape of the earth and the affects of mountain ranges and whatever the heck else on internet signals?

Guess I'll go back to playing with my abacus or the 99.9% of games that don't have always on DRM.

When I first wrote this your comment about Appalachian forests had me cursing up and down. Do you really know so little about the world (even, gosh, America) that this is *really* your perspective on the internet?

Calling it now: In addition to the massive amount of people trying to play, a bunch of assholes are gonna DDOS and attack the servers so people can't play, like what happened to AC2 and (supposedly) D3.

This game looks like such a bummer. No way in hell I'm going to even think of picking this up. They took out pretty much everything that was enjoyable about Sim City and replaced it with this online multiplayer crap that no one wanted. Fucking... god I'm so pissed after watching this.
