Quick Look: Slender: The Arrival

That was really good at giving me some good scares at 9:30 in the morning. Thanks for that. :P Now I just play this on my TV and scare my friends while playing.

That actually made my heart beat a little faster, though it may have been more to do with Ryan and Patrick's freak-outs than the game itself. Still, I'm not going to play it at night.

Its bright outside for me and yet I can't even watch this video in full screen without getting all tensed up.

I'm currently reviewing this for my site. It's an incredibly short game, clocking in at a few hours, but there's nothing else out there that captures primal fear quite like this. Also, they do have a fair amount of variation later; as Patrick mentioned, there's a level where you have to face off against not one, but two horrifying creations. There's even a bit that will instantly be familiar to any Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth fans.

Not a fan of horror games but at least this looks properly scary as opposed to the original.

I will never understand this overwhelming fear some people have of a skinny guy in professional attire. At least there's no 'scare' camera. The only time that's done well is when 'The Rock' is involved.

This game is horrible compared to Amnesia.

To those being tough guys saying Slenderman isn't scary: in this game's case, it isn't about the look if the monster, or the mythos. It's about the enemy chasing you with impunity, and you having no idea what will happen. It could be anything, and the tension would still be effective.

Essentially the same game as Slender, without the atmosphere. Still thrilling, and at times worthy of making you jump and scream.

There's really only one main one near the end. The rest is scary but you'll be ok!

Slender is terrible

Not scary to me at all. Same with the original. I also would have quit after running into the "Eight Pages" segment because the idea of a prolonged scavenger hunt without the use of a map is just tedious and not at all fun game design. I stopped playing Amnesia for similar reasons.

Disappointing game overall (despite some really cool ideas), but Ryan freaking out is my new favorite thing. Maybe Spookin' With Scoops could come back with a "Cryin' With Ryan" segment.

Also, obligatory "SLENDERS AMN'T SCARY AND I NEED TO SAY THIS EVERY SINGLE TIME SOMEBODY SO MUCH AS SAYS SOMETHING THAT VAGUELY SOUNDS LIKE "SLENDERMAN" BECAUSE SOONER OR LATER SOMEBODY WILL BE IMPRESSED BY MY ENDLESS BRAVADO!!!" comment.

I wonder if horror games/movies will be as scary if there weren't any jump scare sounds.

Like would this still put that same type of fear in people if there weren't any audio cues for the slenderman's appearance?

Is the ocean near this forest? Because the term "marine life" excludes flora/fauna that live in fresh water. I thought game developers were smart 0/10.

And it sold me in the game. It looks like a considerable step up from the original low budget Slender and I really want to see where the story goes.

Ryan's real freakout scream at the end was perfect. I wasn't buying his act until that.

I don't know. But I'll say sound design is very important in building tension, be it by sudden noises or silence between them, etc.

There is NOTHING at all scary in this video. Slenderman looks extremely weak and fragile. One solid punch to the jaw with knock him the F out.

I have never found any movie even remotely scary, but just can't handle any video game that has horror in it. Not even thinking about horror games.
