I generally won't buy DLC on Day One, I'll wait to see what reviews and people say about it and then my decision. Having said that, I have no real issue paying $5-$10 for another 2-4 or more hours of a great game, but I do like it better than it's a full expansion, like Shivering Isles, which was awesome and added a lot to Oblivion for me personally.

I do wish the concept pages had some scarcity requirement (i.e. if the concept applies to more than X games it is disqualified). The connection-between-games idea is really cool but totally useless right now.

More people should subscribe because this is some of the best content ever created on the site.

jeff hit the nail on the head with that DLc discussion with regards to value of products.

I enjoy when Jeff talks about the journalistic process of reviewing games. I'm a sports reporter at a newspaper and often have discussions with parents and fans about why I do things a certain way. Embargoes are a weird thing which I don't usually run into but every type of journalist has a few strange hoops they have to jump through to continue to do their jobs properly.

Reviews are a strange beast but good journalists, as I consider Jeff to be, are able to maintain their strict code of ethics while working within a complex ecosystem consisting of the media, audience and the subjects they write about. The Jarcast is one of my favorite subscriber features because I like hearing from people in different fields of journalism about the idiosyncrasies of their job.

Really don't agree with the ondisk DLC stuff.

I really think that if it's on the disk then you paid for it when you bought the game. Day one paid DLC is fine as it's extra content but if it was done before the disks were even pressed they should include it in the high price you already pay for the disk.

I usually avoid DLC unless I really really love the game as all this stuff does my head in.

I don't know how old you are and what your history is but those people who are "whining" about DLC are probably people who still know what an expansion is. DLC is good and fine if done right, I bought a bunch for different games myself, but there is something to be said for good, old school expansion packs.

And I really really really hate it if people call everyone that has an opinion about some topic whiners if that opinion is even slightly negative.

I completely agree with your view on scores. That's why I really like the Whiskey Media scoring system, 5 stars, no halves. Makes even a 3 star game still a decent game in this age where a review of 5 in a decimal scale of 10 is considered terrible.

I think this is the eightieth time Jeff's tried to explain what review scores are supposed to mean, and methinks he doth protest too much. If so many people think review scores are important, if you have to explain the true definition to them over and over again, the problem probably isn't them. Consensus is king, bro.

Also you're pandering to people who are willing to spend sixty dollars on a product based on solely on a star rating. These are people who shouldn't be allowed to handle money in the first place. Just don't have star ratings at all.

Those "good, old school expansion packs" don't exist anymore. Embrace DLC because it's not going anywhere.

Obviously, there's some. But the vast majority of PC games don't get expansion packs anymore.

I think there is a silent majority that understands it and likes the way it is now, it's a weird thing to even argue about in the first place, everybody who does seems to have some kind of fanboy type of agenda.
