Rising Zan is such an amazing(-ly dumb) game.

I definitely played Rising Zan back in 2000 but holy shit I can't believe I don't remember any of that crazy nonsense. I remember it being legitimately cool. I guess I was just a really dumb 8-year-old kid.

I'm pretty sure Jeff just meant he didn't like John Dimaggio's voice in FFX. Jeff's always been pretty positive about Gears and Dimaggio is allllll up in that.

BTW Applesin = Apple from China. It's also called Orange because Orange in France was the main importer of "Apples from China" and the Portuguese and Dutch ships bringing them over from Asia sold most of them there, so they came to be called "pomme d'Orange" or Apples from Orange as well.

The color is named after the fruit and not vice versa

For what it's worth, in Western Europe the MSX was available, but not as popular as the Spectrum or the C64. I was a MSX guy, not many other people were, but you still had a bunch of valid ports on MSX of Spectrum games.

The weird thing about that platform is that it was dual input, it had a tape deck AND a cart slot. Carts were prohibitively expensive, though, so me and my friends avoided them. I never actually saw a MSX cart.

C64 games were available in three different formats, carts, cassette tapes and floppies. I don't know about the Spectrum, but I think it was at least common to have both floppy and cassette releases on most home computers of that era.

Over time I think the cart slot on the C64 was mostly used for expansion stuff like MIDI ports, but early on there were plenty of programs and games released in cart format.

I have no idea what that was for.

Formats at the time were weird, the MSX doubly so, because it was basically a standard and there were MSXs of multiple brands. I didn't remember the C64 having carts with games at all, I did remember floppies. I think there was also a floppy drive for Spectrum, although I only ever saw them used with tapes. Never heard of Spectrum carts, I don't think that was a thing.

Great guest (Samantha rocks!), great games -- but that's not only what made this a great UPF. I like to see you guys having fun. It really shows when you aren't into what you're doing, and there's not a lot of fun to be had when it feels like you don't want to be there, or are just going through the motions. This UPF felt a lot more like GB was genuinely having a good time, and that helps us (the audience) have a good time too! Thanks for giving me hope. :)

I think Samantha was alright as a guest. Definitely not bad, but I didn't hear a lot out of her until the Windjammers segment. I know she was participating but my head just didn't latch on to what she was saying.

Rising Zen was amazing. They started off too strong! Helldivers looks like Magicka so I'll probably skip it, though it was great to have Brad bring an actual game to UPF this week.

Man, after watching Unplugged i really missed having Rorie on this episode. He does infinitely better at manning the chat, although Drew's adventures into Tim Allen were pretty great too.

I want to play Helldivers.
