Overview

In 1977, Star Ship was released as one of nine launch titles when the Atari 2600 (known at that time as Atari Video Computer System or Atari VCS) went up for sale. Star Ship was actually the first space related game developed just for the Atari 2600. The creator of Star Ship, Bob Whitehead, programmed and designed the game based on the Atari classic, Starship 1.
 

Gameplay

Player must use the Atari VCS Joystick to complete one of the following tasks:
 
  • Dodge Asteroids while destroying as many robots and spacecrafts as you can within a time limit.
  • Alternating fire at the opponent controlled aircraft, which can either be controlled by a human or computer, and avoiding enemy fire from a spacecraft.
  • Cover the greatest distance possible by avoiding space objects and asteroids.
  • Land on a lunar landing pad with your space module. The moon can actually stay put, or be controlled by a computer or human.
