Steam X-mas sales

#1 Posted by Winternet (7936 posts) -

So it has begun. What are you going to get? What do you recommend?
It's only now started and it's a bit janky and broken still, but I think I saw Super Meat Boy for 3,50. If that's correct, then I'll buy it, no doubt.

#2 Posted by dragonzord (809 posts) -

Meat Boy is definitely 3.50 right now, through the store page. Though I'm waiting for the special page to come back up before buying it.

My debit card isn't a huge fan of tons of tiny transactions in a small amount of time.

About 100 games are on the special list (some of them 10% off because of a pre-order bonus). I wonder if these are the games on sale through out Christmas or if the list changes every day.

#4 Edited by Winternet (7936 posts) -
@zoner: Yeah, that's true.
@ch13696: For what I can tell, there will be specific days sales.
And I am seeing games for less than a buck. P.B. Winterbottom for 0,39? Madness.

1020 sales...hold me

#6 Posted by Bobdaman18 (700 posts) -

Remember guys, wait for the daily deals before pulling the trigger on a game.

I'm a fucking idiot. I re bought it on steam for $20 :(
#15 Posted by Beforet (2884 posts) -

Was Last Remnant any good?

#16 Posted by JoeyRavn (4887 posts) -
#17 Posted by Th3_James (2575 posts) -

I was gonna buy mass effect 2 a week ago for $20, but now its $15. That seems like a great deal, even though i've already played and beat on 360.

#18 Posted by Innovacious (235 posts) -

That square enix collection is looking pretty awesome, even if it means im re-buying a few games.

#19 Edited by IncredibleBulk92 (936 posts) -

Jesus 1,000 things on sale, I don't have time to look through these let alone play them

EDIT: quick request, any games you guys talk about here drop the price too.

  • BFBC2 is awesome at £7
  • don't bother with Ghost Master 59p
  • Super Meat Boy £3.  worth it?
  • Evil Genius £1 excellent Dungeon Keeper knock off
#20 Posted by Winternet (7936 posts) -

42 games on the 2k mega pack for 80 bucks. Though half is Sid Meier's stuff.

#21 Posted by LordAndrew (13985 posts) -

Get Super Fucking Meat Boy! And PB Winterbottom. And... and... Well, I don't know what else is on sale yet. Steam's storefront is kind of a mess right now.

What about people who (like me) bought the game for 360, sold it when it seemed like there wouldn't be much new (free) content coming out, then thought about buying it for PC? I've heard the DLC is free for the PC version, is that true?
#23 Posted by ch13696 (4582 posts) -

I'm trying to get some money right now so I can take advantage of the deals.

#24 Posted by smitty86 (686 posts) -

Oh the jank. Took me 4 attempts to buy Super Meat Boy. Then it magically works. 1st steam purchase ever.

#25 Posted by Winternet (7936 posts) -

So, there's the Holidays sales but also the daily sales on top of the Holidays sales?

Yes and no. On one hand, the PC version made several improvements to the de-facto beta that was released on the 360 (fuck you Square Enix!) such as allowing you to play with all of the unique units instead of just 5-6 at a time, you don't have to worry about permanent death, and there is a cool feeling of being able to command a whole army instead of just individual units. Also, there are talking shrimp-people with large axes, which is cool in its own way. On the other hand, the equipment and customization options are low, the game's AI often chooses for you what attacks/items/magic can be used instead of letting you choose the list, and the story is nothing you haven't heard before. On top of that, Rush is the most goddamned annoying generic JRPG protagonist in recent memory (being voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch does not help) and you have to use him all the fucking time when there are better characters around him.

For $20? I guess it's worth it, but only if you really like RPGs.
#27 Posted by Innovacious (235 posts) -

Im not buying anything yet though. Just need to make sure i havnt won 100 games first.

#28 Posted by ch13696 (4582 posts) -

Oh crap. I need $12.50. The Oddbox is going for that much. Comes with Steam achievements too. So... yeah... spare some change?

#29 Posted by JoelTGM (5592 posts) -

That Super Meat Boy sale isn't very nice.  The people who preordered it probably wish they had waited, and the people who bought it after for the full $15 price must really regret that.

#30 Posted by animathias (1076 posts) -

Thank you, Steam. Thank you for making me happy I only have $5 in my bank account and my latest paycheck is in my wallet. It is safe from your.. awesome, awesome deals. Man, I would've spent $70 already if I could.

Same here. Three holds have been placed on my card this holiday season already.

Yeah, normally everything is very smooth, but during the holidays their servers get smashed.
#32 Posted by ch13696 (4582 posts) -

There's 12 single games that are on daily deals. As for the game packs, those are going on till Jan 2nd. So does this mean that there will be daily deals until the 2nd?

#33 Posted by nick_verissimo (1373 posts) -

Some really great stuff is on sale, but I have most of what I want from today's deals and the rest of the stuff isn't at prices I quite want. I'm still excited to see what goes on sale over the next week or so..

#34 Posted by DeathbyYeti (739 posts) -

how do i afford this

#35 Posted by Barrock (3525 posts) -

And so it begins: Super Meat Boy, which I'll probably never play let alone beat, and the Oddworld Pack.

#36 Posted by Winternet (7936 posts) -

It's so many sales, that it's a bit overwhelming. What sale is Winterbottom in? It's not a daily deal, but it's 90% off.

#37 Posted by Rhaknar (5940 posts) -

got super meat boy, pb winterbottom, swords and soldiers, republic commando and broken sword earlier in the sale.

have the oddbox, the first 3 prince of persias and the fear complete pack in the cart waiting to be purchased now... and its the first day. im fucked

#39 Posted by ShadowKnight508 (659 posts) -

I shall be getting Super Meat Boy...it looks like a blast to play and challenging games are a win in my book.

#40 Posted by dragonzord (809 posts) -

VVVVVV is also only 2 bucks. Granted it's like 5 regular, but it's still a great game.

#41 Posted by RandomInternetUser (6788 posts) -

Already bought Bad Company 2 and my finger is feathering the trigger on buying Mount and Blade: Warband.  It will be purchased before the day ends >.>

Steam Christmas Sale really is the most wonderful time of the year

#43 Edited by Moth_Pope (444 posts) -

God, this Steam sale looks mental. My face literally looked like my avatar's expression when I loaded it up.

Oddboxx purchased! Been waiting ages for that. I had and completed Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus on the PC originally, but never got to play Munch's Oddysee or Stranger's Wrath. I remember when they announced Munch's Oddysee for the PS2 at first, then changed it to an Xbox exclusive. I was gutted back then, but at least now I get to play it. And with Steam achievements!

#44 Edited by Brake (1050 posts) -

That's a bit odd: Civ 5 was -33% just a moment ago, but now it's back to full price.

Edit: Some awesome deals there, but I'm gonna wait this one out. See what the dailies are.

#45 Posted by Fearsome121 (58 posts) -

The Odddboxx (that's all 4 of the Oddworld games) is out people! For half price too! After so much waiting and a surprise release it was such a pleasant discovery upon booting up steam. That's what i've bought so far. It's just the beginning of the spending madness i feel, like a tickle in your throat you just know is gonna develop into a full blown cold.

#46 Posted by Thoseposers (750 posts) -

Oddboxx is totally mine. i'm so excited to get home and play it

#47 Posted by rjayb89 (7713 posts) -

Just bought Lego Batman and that Deus Ex pack.  Low expectations from both.  Sure, Deus Ex is legendary to some, but whatevs.

#48 Edited by Portis (1276 posts) -

Temped by Super Meat Boy, even though I already have it on 360. 3 fucking dollars!

The Oddbox is looking mighty good also.

I have it on Xbox too; but I bought it anyway. The level editor is worth $3.75 alone!
#50 Posted by AlisterCat (5398 posts) -

I've bought more games for other people than I have myself, and now can't get anything.
