Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

3rd Strike is the final version of Capcom's big fizzle, Street Fighter III, including several new characters and a wealth of gameplay revisions over its predecessor, 2nd Impact.

Concepts

"Winners Don't Use Drugs"

"Winners Don't Use Drugs" is a splash screen in most 90's arcade games attract modes.
2D

Sure, these days have almost every game sporting the newfangled 3D, but way back when, everyone had to live with plain old 2D. 2D, or two dimensions, limit the game to scrolling backgrounds, but some games even now make use of this basic concept.
Achievements

Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Active Ability

This is an ability that requires input from the user to be used.
Air Dash

A quick burst of speed either forward or backward whilst in the air.
Animation Canceling

Using any form of input or interruption to cause a character's sprite or 3D animation for landing/attacking/etc to drop frames and stop early. This allows you to instantly keep moving or attacking rather than waiting for said animation to finish going through all its frames.
Axe Kick

A downward kick occasionally combined with a jump. The Pumphrey Brothers favorite kick. It is used to crack open crates.
Blocking

The ability to stop or reduce the damage from an oncoming attack.
Blood Type

Games in which the blood type of a character is provided in their description. In Japanese culture blood type is thought to help determine compatibility between people.
Bonus Stage

Bonus levels, rounds, or stages give players a chance to gain extra points, powerups, or lives. Occasionally bonus stages will play completely different than the rest of the game, like as a slot machine or pinball minigame.
Book Adaptation

Some games have inspired the creation of literature.
Boss Fight

A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.
Bots

AI Bots are computer-controlled game characters that substitute for characters that are otherwise typically played by a human, and are most commonly found in multiplayer games.
Character Select Screen

A concept in games with multiple characters, a screen with pictures of all playable characters with the possibility of stat listings.
Characters Without Pupils

Some characters have purely white eyes, some have eyes that radiate light, some have no eye-sockets at all. This is a page for all the occularly impaired.
Charge

Charging is the action of pressing & holding down a button or particular direction on the controller. Its purpose is to build up a powerful blast or burst of energy to take out an opponent or cause critical damage.
Charge Character

A fighting game character whose move set is based around charging (holding back for 30 frames, then forward + attack)
Chip Damage

Also referred to as block damage, chipping takes place when characters take damage even when blocking. Most commonly associated with fighting games.
Clan

A group of people who play a game or games together. Can be a team for competition or just for fun.
Clear Save

Allows the player to continue playing - even though they have finished the game. This allows the completion of unfinished side-quests or the results of the player's victory in the world to be seen.
Combo

Typically found in fighting games, combos are a series of strung-together moves.
Command Grab

In 2D fighting games, a command grab is a character-unique grab that is triggered by performing a special move command. It is the primary weapon of a "grappler" character.
Continue

The continue is a classic gaming concept, and usually arises when the player "dies" or fails in the game. Usually some loss is tied to a continue, in a form of a "life" or something of other value.
Continue Countdown

Games that give the player only a limited amount of time to choose whether to continue or not. This concept is most often seen in arcade titles and their home ports.
Counter System

There is a Parry system for countering enemy attacks.
CPS

The CP System is a family of arcade system hardware manufactured by Capcom for their arcade games from 1988 to 1999, including the Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III series.
Crouching

Crouching is an essential part of many shooters and plastformers, and can be useful to stay under cover and avoiding incoming projectiles
Death

The main line of distinction between victory or failure in video games, death is the process of a biological being ceasing to be alive.
Digital Distribution

Digital Distribution is the concept of purchasing digital media via the internet and having it sent to the user directly via the internet. No physical representation of this content is given but the content resides on the users hard drive and is legally owned by them.
Divekick

A divekick is a gravity-defying move found in many fighting games that allows an airborne fighter to propel themselves downward at their opponent at a high rate of speed.

Even if you completely disregarded Street Fighter III upon its initial release, Third Strike Online Edition is still worth checking out.
