You PS3 yuppies, already straddling another online tournament. Well, best of luck I guess, looks like PS3 tourneys while slow as hell, seem to go over smoothly.

edit: You doing swiss style brackets with points and ish? I don't see this going over well, the Street Fighter scene can barely understand double elimination. I'd recommend straight single elimination, no points...just a word of warning. But hey, please do it your way since it'll be more entertaining from a spectators perspective when it crumbles into pieces. Tidied up the post a bit, I'd recommend using Challonge brackets, they now support swiss brackets so you may be in luck, and it will help players visualize what's going on with this format.

In my humble opinion, elimination would be better. Points seems overcomplicated.

@lordofultima: I didn't realise challonge had swiss style brackets now but I just usually do this on a program on my computer anyway. Thanks for the advise, but i know what i'm doing, as long as people show up, it will run smoothly.

@Skye: The point of this tournament is to up everybody's game by giving everybody experience. In a usual tournament, the losers who need the most experience would just get eliminated first while the winners just stack up more experience to get even better.

@Stang: it would have been weird to see stang pick sim if i had fallen for that. lols

I think disconnecting once is possible for a various number of reasons. It should be easy to notice abuse (IE someone disconnecting twice before a loss).

Best way to be prepared is to record your matches. It also helps identify mistakes too :)

True, i get innocent disconnects every now and then. The worst part is no matter what you say they'll still think it's a rage quit. In the end it's statics call.

I don't have the means to record my matches. I would really appreciate it if some of you could upload you're matches, it would help me out alot.

As for disconnects once should be tolerated, if it happens twice it might just be the persons internet but that's still their fault so that should go down as a loss.

@Pessh: Maybe but how do you determine whether someone is dc'ing on purpose? Unless everyone records their matches there isn't really.

Also, disconnects happens all the time. If you disqualify someone for it happening once then there will be a few unhappy people about.

@mubress: Yeah, don't think there's a right way to do it to be honest, but saying 'hey, one disconnect is cool dudes' just seems like we'd be encouraging people to quit.

welcome to giantbomb and good luck!

    @baelrrogg:
@mubress:   Sounds good guys, i really hope the replay channel in super eliminates this problem.

You know what? Since there's no actual prize, ragequitters would only be cheating themselves. As long as were clear on whats allowed, i'd be happy to go either way on the issue.

@Iggins: Yeah the replay channel (if it works well) in SSFIV should be awesome. I don't think I've been this excited before a games release since.... oh yeah SFIV :)

Shenanigans in general should be massively frowned upon. Upsets are the last thing anyone wants when they are playing for fun.

I like the idea of the league though; it separates the different events we have going on and allows a different perspective. I actually may prefer it to elimination.

    Can't. Wait. For. Super.

Alright updated the brackets and we have a full list!!!! Woo, Get Hype!!!

So while my comp makes the initial set list of match ups, if there are any sub ins, they will just simply take the place of whoever they replaced reguardless of the timezone and stuff they are in. My initial match up pairing is based off timezone purely to make the level lag as little as possible.

Also, Perhaps I should clarify what i meant by "any disconnects will be replayed" and what i expected of the GB community.

If a match has to be replayed, it will be replayed from the same situation right up to the disconnect. So, if you see that disconnect prompt come up, don't press nothing and (I am assuming you all have a digital camera) take a picture of the current state of the game; So if player A had won a round and during the waiting for round 2 to start somebody just mashes the start button, etc and causes a disconnect, well, you restart the match and Player B would essentially throw the first round and make how much EX meter and such about as similar as it was before the disconnect, then the set will continue. Yes, I realise this may be easier to implement in real life, than an online setting, so I am assuming and hoping that all the Giantbombers would be cool with each other to either try it that way, or come up with thier own understanding that both players can agree on. This is the rule that is more a grey area since we mostly never have many problems come up before so I just don't know the best way to deal with it. If shit does escalate to the point that I gotta be the judge and final word on it, be prepared to have evidence so it won't boil down to a he said she said BS situation. (If I do gotta go through and deal with that, my ruling will be like King Soloman's which usually means nobody wins)

I actually can't wait for super to come out myself since with the introduction of quarter matches and the different modes, it will be so much easier to set up a Bombing run esq tournament without actually having leagues.
