This kinda explains why I cant get much farther than the depths. My Isaac never gets many upgrades/items. Everyone who gets far has a waaayy crazier looking Isaac than mine ever gets.

• Make it a priority to open gold doors. These rooms always have special items.
  
• Check in arenas, there's occasionally syringes or other items.
• Look for secret areas - they usually contain money and sometimes items. They're usually found in empty areas on the map surrounded by a few other rooms.
• Use slot machines and give money to beggars, you can get a lot of good stuff that way. Beggars can really give you some amazing stuff if you give them enough money.
• You can get some good stuff by killing minibosses.
  
• Sometimes it can be worth selling your hearts for items. Personally, I think it's worth it for the shovel, laser eye and Necronomicon.

Yeah, this is mostly common sense stuff that I've done, but I just don't get a beefed up Issac. I usually only end up getting 2-3 upgrades. I find a lot of items(spacebar), but you can only carry one of those at a time. Once I had 25-ish coins and I never got a key to open a door. Just general bad luck stuff. I've never gotten anything from a beggar though. The most I gave to one was 10 and nothing ever happened, so I stopped using them my last couple play throughs. I guess I can try again, it just doesn't seem very profitable seeing as how I have probably given them 20+ coins and have gotten nothing.

I guess I'll have to buy Binding Of Isaac now, then.

Took me all the way. What you don't see is the vampire bat. That is the greatest upgrade in the game. The unicorn horn plus the battery is a close second.

Just wanted to post my posse.

The Book of Revelations combined with The Relic makes you damn near unkillable. And Meat Boy is the motherfucking champ. He runs after enemies and causes contact damage, and he just stands on stationary enemies until they die.

I managed to get through the game with ma posse.

By far the largest Isaac I've gotten.

My Maggie on the first play through that I beat Mom. Had insane good items. Laser eye, increased damaged x3, see through walls, etc etc.

just beat mom, this is what I looked like. I also had that little guy with homing bullets he was cool, poison touch. Lasted with two/three hearts. :D

I almost regret not taking a picture of the Maggy I had this morning. Made it all the way to womb mother and the only upgrades I had were HP increasing ones. Outside of a brother bobby I got I did not get a single damage, range, or speed increasing item. It was brutal, my fight with the Monstoro 2 took like 5 minutes.  
 
As much as I absolutely love this game luck can bite your ass a lot.

Pretty excited I almost got 2 meat boys in 1 play thru.

Post DLC but no I haven't looked at the mission list yet let alone try any. Seemed like every room I went in had a cube of meat.
