I've made no attempts to hide my adoration for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, a game I'm increasingly considering downloading from Virtual Console and venturing back to, if only to bolster my case for why it's amazing. What I'd rather do is play through a remake with the same care taken with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

If I wish hard enough, maybe it can come true! Or hope that enough fans start begging, according to a Nintendo Power interview with Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, picked up by fansite Zelda Informer.

"It's been 13 years since Ocarina of Time was originally released, and one of the big things that we made this remake possible was that there was an outpour of emotions from people who said they would like to see this game done," said Aonuma. "We said we could do it in 3D, so we did. I think certainly if there was a similar output of emotion and clamor from fans for a remake of Majora's Mask, it wouldn't be an utter impossibility."

Aonuma said the very nature of Majora's Mask's gameplay, where players were often competing small quests in-between dungeon exploration according to a doomsday day-to-night cycle, could work better on a handheld format. He seems to make it clear (sadly) this is just him thinking out loud, however.

The designer worked in a supporting role on Ocarina of Time, but actually acted as the central director on Majora's Mask. Miyamoto tasked Aonuma with overseeing the franchise after Majora's Mask, a duty he's still carrying out.

The next installment, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, comes out on Wii later this year.

How about a new Zelda adventure on the handheld.

Majora's Mask is still one of the best games I've ever played but it would suck if they put the remake out on the 3DS as I have no intention of buying one. Put it on the Wii U and I'll throw my money in your lap, Nintendo!

If they actually improve the game, I'm all for it. If they just re-release it with barely more than updated textures like with Ocarina of Time, I'll pass. Ocarina can get away with that, Majora can't.

You are not going to get a similar outpouring of emotion for Majora's mask compared to Ocarina of Time.  Not as many people liked/played it. 
 
Personally I have to admit it was a better game than I expected, but as usual I was bummed having to play as young link - this time for the entirety of the game.

Duder! Majora's Mask is the Zelda game and the world needs an improved 3D version of it. Yesterday would've been better but I'll settle with tomorrow. No, changed my mine. Right now. Aounuma, why aren't you in my room giving me games?

I was going to say this was a dumb idea, but that moon convinced me otherwise.  They might as well, it's guaranteed money!

Give it to Grezzo again, sure.  But put out some NEW handheld Zeldas too, Nintendo... Don't think this is an easy out.

I'd probably prefer an original game of similar quality. Majora's Mask is a great game, but it feels like we're seeing a few too many remakes on the 3DS as it is.

Well it's not like Nintendo is going to turn down easy sales from repackaged classics...

I would definitely buy this though.

I'd rather see a new game based in the Zelda universe that doesn't focus on Link. Tactics Hyrule. Zelda Kart Racing. Zelda 2038: The Rise of MechaGanon. Cooking Zelda. Or just plain "Zelda", a game where you have to decide on whether you want to settle down with long time love-interest Zelda, or pursue the mysterious and beautiful Celda, who's seductive cel-shaded exterior hides a dangerous secret.

You know, something completely different.

I wonder how many times they can make the same game and people will still keep buying it.

It's decided: I'm getting it in August  on Virtual Console to play in between my Gamefly rentals being shipped back and forth (just got Shadows of the Damned today!)

That moon is still scary as fuck.

Please... no. That moon does not have to look any more creepy.

Majora's Mask is sorely underrated, and still remains to be one of my personal favorite Zeldas; but that doesn't mean I want to replay it again on a 3ds, when I could play it on a tv.

Yes! This is my absolute favorite 3D Zelda game. It was just so damn weird!

I don't want Nintendo to keep releasing old games, I want new stuff from them...  So they should stop after they remake Majora's Mask... and Pikmen.   My hypocrite dollars  are all yours.

I never understood why people disliked Majora's Mask. People complain that zelda never does anything new, but Majora's mask is pretty different and so was Wind Waker.
