The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Game » consists of 16 releases. Released May 17, 2011
The sequel to 2007's critically acclaimed role-playing game, The Witcher. Players again take control of Geralt of Rivia in this story-focused adventure.
President Obama receives The Witcher 2 CE from Polish politician.
Obama might not be happy with the portrayal of rulers in TW2 =)
Its less that for me because I think that perception is changing, I just don't know how good of an idea it is to give the President a game filled with gore and tits. I have no problem with gore or tits but it doesn't seem to be something I'd give a President of a foreign nation.
I hope he finds it to be as thupagangsta as I did.
I also hope that he does not give it to his kids.
Obama might not be happy with the portrayal of rulers in TW2 =)That depends on your definition of gore. Some of the finishers are pretty gnarly. But yeah, there's no outrageous amounts of blood and guts.@DystopiaX said:There's no gore in the gameIts less that for me because I think that perception is changing, I just don't know how good of an idea it is to give the President a game filled with gore and tits. I think this is a pretty cool gift, even though he won't have time to play it. Just goes to show how big the Witcher is in Poland.
Who does poland and the witcher think he is? Giving out a game that isn't well optimized and only 87% on gamerankings, compared to 86% of the last game? Are they serious? It's like giving the president junk. Also where is he going to find a videocard powerful enough with an old rig from the 80's in the white house?
I can't believe that you are all going to think he's going to play it.
I bet he gifted it over Steamno, it was the Collector's Edition. Imagine the look on some politicians face when they see Geralt's head in the Oval Office.

Now, what if Obama really likes this game and all of a sudden all of the US resources goes towards game development...
Lincoln Force 2: Obama Bogaloo.

Obama: "... Seriously? I JUST finished New Vegas, and now THIS? Christ, guys, I can't just call off for a day or two like most people! Not to mention the inter-oval-office MK tourney I have to push back now... Biden's been practicing with Smoke, the cheap bastard, and I'll never catch up now!"
Even if he never opens that box, that thing will sit either in his home or in the fucking White House. Personally I can't think of any other form of entertainment that brings attention and prestige to Eatern European nation like video games. I would do the same thing as the Ukranian president and given the US president a copy of Cryostasis, the Stalker series, and Metro 2033. Also keep in mind he gave Obama what he felt were prestigious Polish books and films as well. Honestly it feels really good for the Polish president to be proud enough of The Witcher to present it as a gift. I bet CD Projekt is honored.

keep in mind he also gave him the books the game is based on signed by the author. So the game is kinda just a part of the collection.
Just too awesome, but I wonder if Obama is under any presumption that he must play the game to comment on it out of respect to the Polish leadership.
PM from Poland: 'So President Obama, how you gettin' along in TW2? What are your impressions on the combat, story, and awesome Witcher wenches?'
You know they've played it and can catch his ass if he's makin shit up,lol.
@valrog said:The Witcher is based on a series of novels that have been adapted into TV shows and movies in the past. It's HUGE in Poland, Russia and most of Eastern Europe.A video game really important in Poland? I guess when you only have a few note worthy devs you pump up the successful one the most. Kinda like what Russia did with that Lesbian chick duo. Also as much as i love video games i really don't think you should compare them to literature.@OracleXIII said:
Yes, yes it is. Although I'm not from Poland, I understand that The Witcher is quite important there, so... I definitely approve of this. Would it be any different if he would be given a book? No, but somehow media will still want to tear it apart because it's a video game.Well it's a bit on the fun side, however, is it really something you'd give a president?
Personally, I really love that the game stays so true to the original works, to the point where the game makes little sense for us English speakers in places.. They didn't make any concessions in an attempt to reach a more mainstream audience.
Would be nice if they'd hurry up and translate the rest of the books though.
Well it's a bit on the fun side, however, is it really something you'd give a president?Better than a basket of your national fruit, or whatever token crap is typical of the situation. Though it'd be kinda fucked up if Obama actually had time to get into an RPG haha
Yep, he did ;]
Obama received a copy of the Witcher 2, some of Sapkowski's books, a pen, and an iPad with some short films by Tomasz Bagiński, such as this one (entitled "The Animated History of Poland):
Just further proves how big the Witcher franchise is out here.
PS Here's a different example of Bagiński's work:
As someone who likes his history, that first video was really cool. He really put nearly everything in there, even a bit about the battle of Britain. Thanks for posting that imsh!Yep, he did ;]

I am reminded of when Obama gave the Queen of England an Ipod. it's only a matter of time until dignitaries stop at spencers gifts on the way to the meeting and get each other funny shot glasses. I, for one, approve.I certainly hope they give each other goofy gifts. It's one of the few aspects of politics that doesn't have to be strictly serious.
