My interest in this game has gone up ten-thousand percent since seeing Fury Road.

It would be better if it looked more like Mad Max 1 and 2 instead of Fury Road. The cars and atmosphere were better in the original movies. The first trailer for this game looked neat, but the enemies from Fury Road just don't seem as interesting as the Road Warrior.

It doesn't really look like Fury Road at all, though. The game looks much more grey and lifeless in comparison, which actually reminds me of the original films more than anything (in a good way).

For comparison's sake, here's a color-corrected GIF someone on GAF made in order to show how the game would be if it looked more like Fury Road:

This is one of things that has me concerned. Part of what made Fury Road (and Mad Max in general) amazing is that it's not the grim dark crap that some directors love doing. Survival and hope play a major part in the series but I'm not optimistic the game will include that after seeing these trailers.

Two initial thoughts:

1. What? Romance subplot? God damn it, Mad Max don't got time for romance, he's busy being sad about his wife and kid and also completely fucking insane.

2. Lord Scrote? Okay, I'm back on board.

Lord Scrote? Color me intrigued, and Avalanche Studios being involved is a good sign as well. Now if only we could get an Alex / Vinny quicklook down the road with them having to treat Lord Scrote with all the gravitas that such a regal fellow obviously deserves. :-D Guffaw!

Oh man, if that was the name of a suitor in Regency Solitaire... I'd be so set. "My Lord, you manage a turkey farm? How oddly fitting."

WITNESS ME

YOU WILL ARRIVE AT THE GATES OF VALHALLA, SHINY AND CHROME

Know what I discovered looking at the track titles of the soundtrack? They're actually saying Walhalla. Which makes a lot of sense with a bunch of these words being just slightly off (Immortan Joe, etc).

Anyway, I completely loved that movie, and if I get to live in that world again for any amount of time, regardless of whether it's a Completely Quality Product, then I'm in.

Is that actually supposed to be Max? I mean, Tom Hardy has a pretty distinct look and sound, and this guy has none of those things. I get that it's called Mad Max, and it would be kind of weird not to have him be the titular character, but it's also kind of weird for it to actually be him. In the movie he was more of a supporting character to Furiosa - he drove and helped, but it wasn't his fight, and he wasn't really that invested in it beyond helping them.

Having just seen Fury Road, the best thing ever, this comes off like a frightening machinima vision of the mediocre Mad Max reboot we could have gotten from Hollywood without George Miller in charge.

...Still, when it comes to Avalanche's games, the story tends to rank just about last on the list of things that make you care about the game, so I'm still cautiously optimistic.

Is it really a good idea to assume the game is gonna be good because the movie was? This looks like any old movie tie-in to me.

I want to be proven wrong.

Aesthetically it looks pretty sound, if they can capture George Miller's bizarre vibe and sense of humor I might be tempted. But car combat is a tough sell for me. Finger's crossed.

Glad to see its living up to Avalanche Studios's top notch standard in incredible voice acting, lol.

Also, and I only say this because of seeing the WB logo at the start, Mad Max would be an incredible setting for another game featuring the Nemesis System.

One thing I noticed about that trailer... There's only white folks. It's 2015, it's ok to put non-white people in your games now. (It always has been.)

@d_w: Likewise, it's ok to ONLY put white people in your games as well. It's the developer's choice on what kind of characters they want to fill their game with. There shouldn't be a problem either way, and it really should not be made a big deal of either way.

word.

Unfortunately, by comparison to Fury Road, this trailer reminds me of how corny and cliche the action genre is as a whole. I was exited for this, and I'd like more Mad Max, but i hope the game holds up better than this trailer. Hell, i'll take goofy 80s adventure, "Thunderdome" to the douchey modern action vibes this things giving me.

Fury Road felt a lot more like a bigger budget Thunderdome than Mad Max 1 or Road Warrior. The older ones were bleaker and more imaginative, and some of the characters just felt cartoonish in the new movie. Tom Hardy did make a good Max Max.

Highly, HEAVILY disagree. My fiancee and I tried to do a double feature of Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome and couldn't get past the 30 minute mark. I'd call IT the absolute BIGGEST departure from the entire series (including Fury Road). Max has more lines in the first 15 minutes of that movie than the entirety of any other one (it's also the only one in which George Miller had a co-director) and the villain of the Road Warrior was a leather-clad, metal helmet wearing warlord named Lord Humongous. The franchise has been plenty cartoony before.

Edit: I should really clarify: we loved Road Warrior, couldn't get 30 minutes into Thunderdome.

Not a fan of that aussie voice actor. Anybody know who it is?

Was hoping for someone like Richard Roxburgh or Travis Fimmel or Heath Franklin. Hell give Angus Sampson some work again (the organ surgeon in Fury Road).

This is releasing 1st September? That's...ambitious.

Mad Max's accent reminds me a lot of an Australian commercial the features a fake Australian rancher that breaks accent with the final words of 'Bloody Oath', and then a message appears saying 'You can tell when it's not true blue' or something along those lines. I really wish I could link it but I can't find it.

As someone who lives in the wasteland that is: Sydney, Australia, that Australian accent is terrible and super forced, I did a minimal amount of research and the voice actor is actually Australian, so why on this scorched earth does that accent sound super forced?

I have hope..

Yeah, leery about the commercial pre-order aimed at the backside..But so much could be better than just cashing in, and it has been done recently. Shadow of Mordor (for example) was pretty enjoyable to me.

War Boys and Avalanche are reasons enough to be interested in seeing how this game turns out.

If they can pull off anything remotely like the brutal, often authentically clumsy and desperate hand-to-hand combat in Condemned 2, for instance, I'll have an easier time believing that Max can dispatch a bunch of crazed enemies. And that'll help keep those sections from feeling like such a distraction from the guzzleen-fueled automotive carnage set on what I assume is still the Fury Road given the Gas Town reference.

@fissionmailed10: I would put good money on a director asking him to make it "more Aussie" until it sounds genuinely terrible but the sort of accent that everyone not familiar with the accent would expect.

Speaking of which, needs more Australian accents. They really need to bogan it up.

If it was your first time watching any Mad Max movies, then it makes sense that you would like the new ones as you've probably don't have any nostalgia. The newer one plays better with modern sensibilities. How could you possibly put Thunderdome before Mad Max 1? The first one is a classic.

Since the conversation is diverging from anything related to the actual video game, I'll throw in my two cents -- "Mad Max" (the first movie) had NOTHING to do with the "Road Warrior" or "Beyond Thunderdome". There was no indications of a post-apocalyptic world, no weirdo raider-gangs, no crazy kit-bashed cars; it was just a revenge movie of an Australian Highway Patrol officer who chases down and murders his way through a completely mundane criminal biker gang. It's an ok movie, but ironically there's nothing mad-max about "Mad Max".

I'm still looking forward to the game despite people's easy dismissal of it. There is a certain level of humor to me that folks are saying a game can't live up to a movie. They can (and should) be treated separately you know.

I've got faith in the studio and the IP. Let's see where it goes, shall we?
