We Dare not coming out in the UK

#1 Posted by alternate (2702 posts) -

Not sure how to read this in any other way than "Continental Europe are a bunch of paedophiles and perverts" ;-)

'Following the public reaction to the 12+ rating of We Dare, Ubisoft has made the decision not to sell the game in the United Kingdom,' said the company in a brief statement.

'For us it was never a big product. It seemed too much trouble to release it here given the concerns raised by the public.'

Or because they know Europe doesn't have enough paedophiles and perverts to make the profit they're after. X).. wasn't this already cancelled in the US too? I'm willing to bet there'll be no stopping it's Japanese release..

I really don't see the issue. Based on the trailer, nothing overly explicit happens. Nothing that 12 year olds don't already do when playing stuff like truth or dare or spin the bottle. And they could have always put their own disclaimer on the box saying it is intended for adults if they were worried that it was going to be a problem. An adult playing it with a 12 year old would be wrong, but I don't see a problem with 12 year olds playing it together.

I don't see the problem. The game really doesn't seem that explicit.

I apologise for making a new thread, was unaware of this one.

Don't Dare

YEAAAAAAH

Sorry, that was awful :(

@Hizang: It's all good, no worries. Happens from time to time.

I don't think the game itself is the problem here, it seems pretty harmless and silly to me. It's the marketing that bugs me. I like sexy ladies and all, but the models in the video and the things they do just look super awkward and unrealistic. I'm pretty sure a Wii game won't get you laid; what We Dare is implying is the opposite.

So you're okay with 12 year olds seductively stripping, and spanking eachother?
#9 Posted by Deusoma (3006 posts) -

I'm going to pretend it was blocked for being a profoundly stupid product, and not for perceived sexual content, because both of those possibilities make me feel ever-so-slightly better about the human race.

They rate games based on the content in the game, not what people may or may not do when playing the game. You don't have to place the wiimote in your butt crack to play it. Rez is rated E for Everyone despite what you may or may not do the trans-vibrator.

Personally I think it looks like a bad game, so I don't care either way.

PEGI rates the games, the are quasi-independent (quasi as the games industry funds them).  They have criteria and rate the content of the game - not any pervy stuff the humans might do to a wii remote in person - so could not really do anything else.
#14 Posted by onimonkii (2441 posts) -

it's a really bad triviva/minigame collection and it's getting way too much attention from all the bannings and trailers misrepresenting it

#15 Posted by craigbo180 (1739 posts) -

Wait wait wait, why did they call it we dare and not wii dare?

This is one game I'm totally fine with the UK missing out on.

Trademark on Wii I would guess, also it is out on PS3. In France it is called "flirting with friends" or something as the pun doesn't work there.

I'm sorry for your loss, Europe.

Mainland Europe has it - just not UK.

I wasn't going to buy it but it makes gb importing it for fun and giggles less likely.  Had it come out in the UK I would have sent them a copy.

@VinceNotVance:  This Wii game won't get me laid? Well, there goes the only reason for owning a Wii...

So basically, they should have just made it 16+? Thats pretty much what I think. I don't see what the problem with this game is, and why it can't just get a higher rating and be for adults.
#24 Posted by SlightConfuse (3963 posts) -

unless the game explicitly says to put a wiimote in your pants then this is  hype for a crappy shovelware game

#25 Posted by NMC2008 (1237 posts) -

Between this and the Gal Gun censorship, what's next on the agenda, banning porn because kids can potentially find and watch it? Yeah, let's ban porn.
What a world, sex bad, violence good.

#26 Posted by CaptainCody (1505 posts) -
@MattyFTM:
I think you're downplaying it a little too much. 12 year olds don't have jobs, they get games from parents, parents see the game and get mad. While sexuality certainly jumps into everyones life early, pre-teens spanking eachothers' asses for entertainment is insane.
#27 Posted by geirr (2569 posts) -

The only thing sadder than this game is the people making these things into issues.

#28 Posted by Sackmanjones (4701 posts) -

Cool

#29 Posted by Example1013 (4834 posts) -
@NMC2008: They already tried that in the US. It got struck down, though.
#30 Posted by Bribo (605 posts) -

The issue seems to have arisen because the game got a 12 rating but they tried to market it to adults.

Sort of the opposite of what they did with Dead Space 2.

#31 Posted by fox01313 (5072 posts) -

While this game doesn't look good for a variety of reasons nobody should really play, I'm somewhat perplexed on why UK isn't getting this, figured that USA & maybe Austrailia would be the only ones that wouldn't get this (USA for being overly puritanical unless it's violent then it's rivaling whatever Caligua thought of & Oz because they tend to ban every other game and prolly still bitter about losing Pandemic Studios).

You'd have the same problem if you put a 12+ tag on a boxed copy of truth or dare or spin the bottle...
#33 Posted by Mr_Skeleton (5144 posts) -
@MattyFTM: I think the bigest problem was with the trailer and not the game, the game looks like a stupid Wii mini game collection but with a "hyper sexualized" trailer which got parents worried.

Just from the article (because lord knows, there probably is) it's virtually the exact opposite of what you said.
#35 Posted by SubwayD (498 posts) -

The whole bloody thing just seems like a joke that got too far.
Strangely, the thing that bothers me the most is the whole game is the idea of putting your mouth on a Wii remote. Even before you stuff that thing down your arse crack, I bet it's teeming with gunk and funk.

#36 Posted by SquadBroken (280 posts) -

It's Ubisoft themselves who pulled the game, it hasn't been banned or anything.  They've been ordered to take down the advert because it's false advertising.  They're saying its a hardcore swinger simulation but the ratings board says it's ok for 12 year olds to play.

Man, the metro, what a paper.

I was once on the train and had nothing to read, so decided to read that, there was an article about a man who had passed away from natural old age related causes, and "forgot" to feed his dog, and when people finally went to check on him, they got into the house and seen the dog walking past with the man's head in his mouth, cause he never fed the dog.

Man, the metro, what a paper.

They really should just have released it with an 18 rating... It's not like a huge portion of the target audience are aged 12-17... Not that I'm bothered, the game looks like ass :P
