Rejoice! Major Nelson has unveiled the rumored new Xbox 360 controller with a redesigned D-Pad and a slightly different color scheme.

I think it's a really cool solution to the d-pad problem. I also like the new look, but I think it's a little odd that they moved away from the colors. I know that when I have friends over who don't play many games, the button prompts on screen help them find the right one to hit by color. Anyone think they'll be picking one up?

That took them long enough, and they still managed to make it ugly as hell. What is up with that unibrow thing it's got going on above the triggers?

That thing looks amazing. I don't know why they would take away the colors of the buttons, I loved them... but the d-pad looks awesome, reminds me of Nintendo d-pads.

Looks like a really nice update - agree that moving away from the colours is an odd choice, but I don't think it'll make much of a difference.
Not sure if I'm going to invest in a new one until I need to replace an old one, but nice to have the choice when I do.

Wish I didn't just buy two new controllers about two months ago when they were on sale. :P

Why did it take THIS long? It kinda reminds me how the Xbox controller S replaced the old model.

About time they did something with the horrid D Pad. Must be really good if it costs more than a game.

I like how the D pad looks, but what was the point of the black and white buttons? Anyway, it looks better then the normal 360 controller.

What possible reason do they have for postponing it by FOUR MONTHS to Europe? And why is it so expensive?!

It looks great and all, I like the direction they took with it (waiting to see how the black version looks though).

That Xbox 360 controller looks AWESOME.

Unfortunately I fear that Microsoft is far too late with their D-Pad solution... Still, I'll probably buy it for novelty's sake.

Looks cool. I guess they're gonna have this bundled with the Halo Reach Xbox...

    Due out November 9th

Oh. Huh. Well at least maybe it will be the same price as the...

    64.99 (U.S. Dollars)

Jesus Christ. I get that this is a move at Sony's controller philosophy, but guess what, those controllers don't cost more than the games. Brilliant revolutionary design and the best they can come up with for the battery life is to include an already existing doo-hicky that in my opinion doesn't work so great anyway.

I agree that they should have kept the color buttons but other than that it looks cool

I also think its expensive but at least it comes with the rechargeable battery kit.

The price is because it's bundled with the play & charge kit. In the US controllers have always retailed for $50 and the play & charge kits are $20. So, it's actually cheaper as a bundle, but for people like me with a quick charge kit and plenty of batteries, it's annoying.

Not really digging the complete lack of color on the face buttons, though they do look rather stylish. The price is a dealbreaker, though. $50 was crazy enough, but $65 for a controller and some charging accessories I'll never use is too much.

What a shame. My 360 controller could stand to be replaced, that's for sure.

on a closer look, the buttons are still the same color-ish as they used to be, it's just that they're shaded over in grey. So Y will be the lightest button, X will be the darkest, and the other two are somewhere in between.

Oddly enough when I look at it, it makes me think Yellow, Red, Blue and Green lol.

Alright, I can see the thing about the price as valid in some way. But as you said, it's terrible for the people already in possession of a Play-And-Charge kit who have to pay extra for another one.

Nothing explains why it'll take 4 months for it to get to Europe. I doubt it would be a very good reason since they, as far as I know, don't have region coding on controllers and things like that.

They're expecting every European to buy a Kinect. You won't even need a controller. :)

I'll admit that I thought the bright colors of the original controller were a bit gauche (had a hell of a time figuring out how to spell this word), but now those colors are established as representing of those buttons.  It probably won't be an issue for people familiar with the controller, but some people are going to be confused when a big red button prompt pops up on screen and all they got is a bunch of greys.

The D-pad looks cool. And not that I look down at my controller but I don't get removing the colored buttons. I'll probably pick one of these up, although I do love my Red and Black controller.

$65...what a joke.  They fix one problem but create another:  black/white buttons when even
the games show colored buttons when they want you to press them.

Man... If I was going to get a white controller I wanted one with color on the face buttons... (edit: because it looks slick, not just to bitch on this design, it looks awesome too but the original 360 pad in white looks really good ).

But I have 2 360 controllers already so I'm good.

Interested to try this thing out. I still have doubts in my ability to use the D-pad for Street Fighter. The SNES and Playstations are the only consoles with controllers I can comfortably pull off moves.

Why the hell does the d-pad need to transform exactly?  Why not just change it to be like a standard fightpad all of the time? At any rate, $65 is too much for that controller, and I don't care for the new color scheme on it.  It doesn't match the inputs displayed in game, since they all use the primary colors on the current controllers.  I can't see myself buying one of these for any reason.

I like my solid black one that came with my slim better, but i like the new a,b,x,y button colours better.
Do those play and charge kits add any bulk to the back of the controllers or are they they same size as the double-a battery packs?

how come they came out this solution so late?  i don't want a controller with play N charge kit. i already have a charging station for the batteries. i don't like the color they changed it. i liked the colors of the red, green, blue, and yellow. i want to know why they decided to change that.

A more interesting question would be: Why did they came out with the solution (assuming it actually works) so early after the launch of the Slim? Kind of boggles my mind that they didn't improve the controller for the Slim already, but now do it two month later, even so the issue itself has existed since launch day some five years ago. I'll also be interested to hear if the fix actually works, as the problem never was the cross-shape or lack there of, but that the Dpad was a very tall piece of plastic, instead of a slim one that is directly over the contacts. Adding a turn mechanism doesn't exactly sound like a good way to fix the issue.

No colors is probably for the color blind folk.

This is why I hate Microsoft. They charge too much for a god damn little improvement. And it isn't even an improvement. The D-pad is still on a disk. That means it will be the same exact fucking controller with a play-and-charge bundle and will play like shit still with fighting games.

You want a good fighting game stick.

Boom, there you go. And it is still cheaper then this new controller.

It's not just a controller...the play and charge kit comes with it, which makes the price fine beings as the kit is 30 bucks..

I like it. Though $64 is a lot. I don't understand why a high quality accessory brand doesn't come in and tear down the ridiculous prices of this stuff.

Hmm...... This is pretty lame...... It took this long to put in a d-pad that actually works?! And then make it that expensive!? And blandify the buttons!?
I am completely stupefied by how MS can take about four years to put in a d-pad that works, like we've had in every other console in existence. Then the price tag!?

This has brought up renewed feelings of rage that I though I had subdued when I returned my copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 after throwing my controller on the floor in frustration at my Xbox 360 d-pad not correctly registering directions.
    Four Years!? :@

Purely out of anguish, I am not going to buy this pad and I'm going to keep getting any games that require use of the d-pad on my PS3.
