Community GOTY 2022 Winners

I am not surprised that those top three games (weighted) are what they are. They seemed like consensus picks for the year, and they made up three of my own top four of the year.

Nor am I surprised that I didn't play anything from 4 to 19 at all. These days if I'm not absolutely sure I'm going to love something, I usually wait for a deep sale, which often means not playing it the year of release. Some day! Add them to the eternal backlog!

Meanwhile, I'll continue to beat the drum for Rogue Legacy 2, my own personal #2 game of the year behind only Elden Ring, which ended up tied at #20 for weighted and #22 for total votes. If you haven't yet tried it, boy, it's a hell of a thing.

@atheistpreacher: Same for me! I logged 125 hours in Rogue Legacy 2, all from 2022 - and I haven't even gone back to it since July. (I plan to.) I think I played through the game through New Game 10+ or so? What a terrific experience - easily a top 5 for me.

This might be the year that my list looks the most different from the community list. Only three of the games on here made my own list, and my own #1 & #2 didn't make the list at all. Definitely a testament to the number of great games that came out last year, and definitely not just me being an insufferable contrarian.

One of my favorite games of last year! Returnal's really been hitting the same notes for me lately.

@rorie: You know, I meant to go back and try that new mode they added to Returnal, but never did. Is that the bit that's been doing it for you? Or have you just been returning to the standard mode?

EDIT: Also, you should have been in the staff deliberations to champion RL2! ;-D

I played a bunch of the standard mode but I've also gotten to the "top" of the infinite tower. There are some interesting story beats in there!

Turns out Immortality does alright when people aren't told they can't discuss it.

I played so few of these games last year as I've been mostly playing retro games but so happy to see Tinykin close to top 10, such a great game!

I already thought I missed the list somehow. Enough time for Rorie rigging the list with Forbidden West 😉

Really surprised Pokemon Legends Arceus got to 12, even though I voted pretty highly for it. Glad to see it got in there.

Wild that Elden Ring got double the score of second place and is more than the top 5 combined.

Thank you for posting this even if it was a bit late. Stranger of Paradise was easily the most fun I had with a game this year. It landed about where I thought it would:(

And here I thought I missed the list. And its a pretty solid top 20. Glad Horizon Forbidden West did well in the top 10, despite the haters and bandwagoners dissing the game for no good reason. And Sonic Frontiers cracking the top 50 is a win for Sonic.

I’m hoping this will be added to PS Extra sometime (this year). I have been interested in because of the Nioh connections, but it never truly convinced me to get it.

talk about a solid list .. honestly its pretty nice to see pentiment and citizen sleeper so high up on it ^^
