    Overview

Caterpie is a small Bug-type Pokémon that resembles a caterpillar. Green with a yellow belly and red eyebrows, Caterpie blends in with its forest surroundings, using its suction-cup feet to climb up trees unnoticed by predators. Caterpie uses string shot in combat against opponents. Caterpie was one of the original Pokémon found in Pokémon Red/Blue, and was found in the wild in both versions of the game.

This sweet little Pokemon is a lot like a caterpillar. It has short feet with suction cups on the ends that allow it to climb walls and trees without getting tired. Its String Shot slows down Caterpie's enemies. It doesn't take Caterpie long to evolve. Once Caterpie changes into a Metapod, it will not be able to move.

Caterpie was the first Pokémon that Ash Ketchum captured in the Anime Cartoon series (Episode 3 "Ash Catches a Pokémon").  It evolves into a Metapod the following episode, and then into a Butterfree the episode following that.

As a Bug-type Pokémon, Caterpie takes double the damage from Fire, Flying, and Rock-type attacks.  However, it only takes half the normal damage from Grass, Fighting, and Ground-type moves.
