Ed Boon was born Edward J. Boon on February 22, 1964 in Chicago and is the co-creator (together with John Tobias) of the legendary fighting franchise Mortal Kombat. He has a younger brother, Mike Boon, as well as two sisters, Tania and Sonya (both of whom had Mortal Kombat characters named after them, with the small change that Tania's "i" got replaced by a "y".) Boon graduated in 1986 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Computer Science. Before starting the Mortal Kombat franchise, he began his career programing pinball games like Taxi for Williams. He later moved to programming video games with the High Impact Football series for Williams' subsidiary Midway Games.

Boon's real breakthrough was his success with the Mortal Kombat series, and he is still working on a new game in the series which now has over 13 games. Not only is he leading the design team but he has contributed with motion capture for the game as well as his voice for the character Scorpion (who is also his favorite MK character of all time). Boon voiced Scorpion's "Get over here !" line, a phrase now legendary in Mortal Kombat circles. Boon also provided Liu Kang's "turkey vocals" and the voice for Jax in the ending cinemas of Mortal Kombat 4.

Ed likes his games even more than the fans and he is constantly involved in everything else related to them. In 1995 he was involved in the script for the Mortal Kombat movie which was directed by Paul W.S Anderson starring actors such as Christopher Lambert as Raiden and Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade. He also recorded Scorpion's harpoon line "Get over here!" just so that it would sound authentic in the movie. He is credited as Scorpion in many more projects and it would seem he would never let anyone try to take the voice from him.

    Favorite and Least Favorite Fatalities

Ed Boon's favorite fatality of all time is Quan Chi's "The Leg Rip" in Mortal Kombat 4 and his least favorite is (Also coincidentally) Quan Chi's "Neck Stretcher".
