The "I'm Not a Hipster" Obscure Games Thread
To quote a brilliant man...
"If you...like?...rape, murder, psychological and physiological torture, sadism, insanity, Nazi experiments with living people's eyeballs placed in jars whilst they are mutilated, cannibalism, unimaginable and never-ending pain of various kinds, terrible suffering of the mind and of the body, infanticide, morally and ethically challenging issues, abject terror, child abuse, mental and physical catharsis, paranoia, immortality as a means of punishment, pure and unbridled anger and hatred towards humanity, lying cheating and stealing, crazy Earth-sized computers which control all life and have complete command over the laws of physics and biology, and all that other good wholesome fun stuff...Then I would heartily recommend checking this out."

@PrimeSynergy: Railworks 2 is dope as fuck, I'm all up in that shit fo' life.
I still play it every few days :/
(Yes, I know of the PC server, I'm talking GC)
I always had an affinity for Gunvalkyrie.

Little Big Adventure 2 (Twinsen's Odyssey) . At least I think it's obscure because no one ever talks about it.
There's a game I haven't thought about in a long while. Should submit this to gog.com

That's a great idea, I was really bummed out when I found out I couldn't run it on Windows 7.
Space Station Silicon Valley for the N64. It can look ugly and be glitchy, but it is extremely creative and charming.holy crap i have this game XD
I would've said Earth Defense Force 2017 but that's pretty well known at the moment, so I'll go with Moonbase Alpha.
Actually that's a flash game, so I guess that's cheating.
Radiata Stories? I hardly ever see that mentioned these days. Also Cubivore, which is amazingly insane and needs a re-release.

It's really not that obscure but it's a good little strategy/RPG - King's Bounty: Armored Princess
I'm enticed! Just bought from the Steam sale.
Don't know if it counts as obscure, but I was really fond of Rock & Roll Racing. Great RC Pro Am style game with an excellent SNES soundtrack. It's from Blizzard, yes that Blizzard, and they never make bad games.
@Skullo:
Ya, ive heard em mention Crusader on the Bombcast. They released on GoG.com recently too. Not a lot of people know about it though. I played it a ton when I was younger, I loved it. Some people may not. At the time it was just awesome because of all the ways you could die- I liked the cheesy sci fi story too.

No shit, I came in here to post the exact same thing. I really should have a go at finishing that some day.
OT, here are some faves that spring to mind:
@hoseph1337: If you like Stalker or Metro, then You Are Empty is a game to look at. Its graphics are pretty low and gameplay is mediocre, but its still an interesting game.
Rocket Knight Adventures, baby.
@Krampus: Nice. Ya I still have that as well, great game but few frustrating things in it (such as the long ass "bible" wall you have to walk down until you get to the end for the cartridge) but otherwise its fantastic and I loved it.
The sequel on PS1 (skullmonkeys) was alright too. It was an ok platformer, and had more story so it was ok.
Barkley Shut up and Jam Gaiden is also pretty good for a weird parody.
- Vanguard Bandits PSX
- Warlocked GBC
- Magi Nation GBC
- Evil Genius PC
- Para World PC
- Rogue Galaxy PS2
These are still in Development, but they look like great games that I will love, but have never heard anyone mention before.
- Monaco PC
- Dawn of Fantasy PC
- Fray PC
- Xenonauts PC
- Team Assault: Baptism of Fire PC
Probably the most obscure game I can recall having really fond memories of, was this Mc Donalds themed game for the NES or SNES. I remember playing it at someones house as a kid and being absolutely enthralled by it for days.
EDIT:Holy fuck muffins I found it. God dam! The second I heard that music all my memories of that game came flooding back. I loved that game so much.
The Neverhood. A game made from 3 tons of clay, I had heard about this when I was 10 and it was a gift for my next birthday. Such a classic, I wish more people new about it.*brofist*
I was just coming in here to post The Neverhood.
ever since the internet, no game is obscure for long. yes even your wacky japan only import snes games that were never actually released.
that said, i always used to play Beyond Oasis when it came up on Sega Channel, so that would be mine.
ever since the internet, no game is obscure for long. yes even your wacky japan only import snes games that were never actually released.I really want to respond to this, but I can't figure out what you mean. Do you want merely Japan-only games, or games that were canceled before they could get a Japan-only release?
@onimonkii said:both actually. don't bother digging the depths of what you think is something that is going to blow my feeble mind with how unheard of it is though, because that would just prove me right (won't stay obscure for long).ever since the internet, no game is obscure for long. yes even your wacky japan only import snes games that were never actually released.I really want to respond to this, but I can't figure out what you mean. @coakroach said:I'm talking about the PSP remake, and the new art and dialogue is freakin awesome.Tactics Ogre: Let us cling together. And it is amazing, makes Final Fantasy tactics look like a pile of shit. Anyone remotely interested in strategy RPG's has to play it.While I agree with the bolded, I disagree with the underlined. Final Fantasy Tactics improved upon a lot of what the original Tactics Ogre kinda screwed up. However, if we're talking about the PSP remake, then while I haven't played that, I do recognize that it fixed a lot of the flaws present in the SNES original, letting the game beneath shine through, maybe (again, haven't played it).
You could argue that Final Fantasy tactics has a better class system, but other than that Tactics Ogre has it beat hands down.
Robot Arena 2.
Many hours were lost to that game. Anyone know of a newer game that is along the same lines? That would be awesome.
I haven't played the PSP version, so I guess the discussion ends here. I played the SNES version, so to me, Final Fantasy Tactics had a better translation, a more fleshed out class/ability system, a bit less grind, etc.
I wouldn't say that it's that obscure but Ghost Hunter is a nice little game that I think quite a few people overlooked.
@buzz_clik: Dude, EA should totally do a downloadable sequel to Future cop LAPD, the scope of the game seems just perfect for just such a thing.

Evil Zone is not a great fighting game, but I loved it as a kid.
Damn you! I wanted to be the one to post that!
It's the one PSX game that I still go back to, the Kakurine level has the best music:
I fight that allegation. Al's music was clearly the coolest:
However, I must say that I've always liked playing as Keiya.
