    The Hoover Dam was the sight of a ferocious battle between the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion. Before the engagement, the NCR had secured and maintained the dam for it was valuable as a strategic location and a source of power of New Vegas. Caesar wanted the dam, so he sent his troops out to capture it. The turning point in the fight occurred when NCR Rangers and 1st Recon Snipers booby-trapped the nearby Boulder City with explosives and tricked the Legion attackers into entering the city. The explosives were then detonated, crippling Caesar's forces and forcing them to retreat.
