Killzone 2

I disagree with you. Taking half of a star because of the story is not fair, especially because this is a FPS, where the action is the main star of the game.

I find funny when people want to diminish the PS3's great titles. When Metal Gear came out with its dense story people were bitching about how "a game is supposed to be played, not watched". Now when you get a pure action game they complain about the opposite "the story sucks".

The story doesn't suck. If you don't know it, then it is your problem. The story is no less than any other shooter out there.

Dude, giving something a 9/10 is not fucking heresy. 10s are often handed out willy-nilly now, and Killzone 2 is hardly a landmark title in the grand scheme of things. It's a good fucking shooter, not the second coming, get over it.

I love when the argument "this is a good score" is used when the PS3 competition gets better scores. Would people say the same things if 360 titles were getting consistently inferior scores?

The problem is not even the score, is that people can't formulate logically why the game should have a lower score. It seems they just can't accept the fact that this game is the best FPS ever made. They need to detract something from it and pretend this is not great.

It is the best FPS ever made. It is on PS3 only. It has the best graphics and multiplayer. Live with it. I have as value the value of work, and Guerrilla did an awesome job. They deserve to be praised, this it not an option IT IS YOUR OBLIGATION if you actually are for meritocracy.

Good companies can stand on their own two feet, by their work alone. They don't need cheating or depreciating the competition's work to survive. Think about it.

9/10 is a great score. Why do you criticise anyone who doesn't think it's a 10? I'm fairly sure Jeff would have given it a 9 were he forced to, he's smart enough to know that just because something is enjoyable and polished it's not the greatest game of all time. It's nowhere near the best FPS ever made, that's a fucking joke.

Similarly, fanboy accusations won't float with me. Fanboys are the scum of the earth, and, as many of your comments so patently demonstrate, you're an enormous Sony fanboy. Games can be good regardless of which platform they're on. Were Killzone 2 on PC or 360, I'd have still considered it a 7/10 game, perhaps less. After all, it does many things the 360 isn't near capable of at any framerate resembling smooth.

To me, Halo 3 is a 7/10 title, Gears of War 2 is a 7/10 title and Killzone 2 is a 7/10 title. All are massively overrated by people (including critics) that bought into the hype. Please refrain from leveling accusations of fanboyism at me and trying to establish Killzone 2 as some sort of mythical beast that has no flaws; it has a bloody raft of them. Of course meritocracy exists, it's nigh on irrefutable, however I don't see how it's applicable in this situation. Perhaps subjectivity would fit better? Yes, they deserve to be praised to some degree for pieces of what they have done, but that does not mean they must receive blanket praise because one person says so, and refusing to accept the fact that some people may find problems with this game through such bullish obdurateness puts you in a very difficult position indeed.
