Serpent in the Staglands is definitely something I've meant to play more of, if only for the amount of styyyyyle it exudes with that deliberately old-school look.
Who is going to be the advocate for anime boob ninja games on these forums now? But seriously, I hope 2016 turns out better for you. At least we'll have the AGDQ Explosive Runs chat, right?
As someone who never owned a Genesis or played those original Sonic games when they were new, Jeff's burning hatred of Sonic 3 has always been a little confusing. They re-drew his sprite. So...?
When I shifted my goal of playing Dragon Age Inquisition to a goal of wasting my time with better, more interesting open world RPGs, my experience was certainly improved.
Real talk though: I got a lot more enjoyment out of Pokemon X version after digging into the more nitty-gritty metagame optimization aspects of it. For a series that is still unquestionably aimed at kids, it's pretty obvious that the developers at Game Freak are well aware of the older fanbase and have made the competitive aspects of those games a lot more accessible without crazy internet guides.
@takashichea: I did replay a decent amount of junk this year, but this list is reserved for stuff I played the first time through (which is why it's as sparse as it is). Perhaps most worth mentioning are the 4 Fire Emblem games I had another spin with (Sacred Stones through Shadow Dragon) where I basically had the same opinions that I did the last time I replayed them. If you want to talk that up, I'd be more than happy to.
I have mixed feelings about Persona Q, in that I don't think it's as good as the Etrian Odyssey series is but I think it's pretty great Persona fanservice. Even if it doesn't make the final list, I'll likely have something to say about it in the inevitable companion blog. XIII-2 has a pretty great "Naw, you screwed up you dummies" ending, though it's the alternate endings like the one with Snow on his time-traveling motorcycle that I really appreciated.
