GT5 first day impressions

First there was the shock. The game looks nowhere near as good as it should.  Everything looks flat, full of jaggies and flickering shadows.

Strange blocks are caused by shadow, smoke and lighting effects.

Stale sounds did not help the first impressions. Neither did long loads between the menus - which were present even after opting to make big and long install on to the hard drive.  To top things of there are the "normal cars" which look like ass. It seems like they took GT4's cars and imported them straight to this game. Would it been too much trouble to add few polygons to replace muddy textures on some surface details like door handles?  Or at least  make sure that geometry works well in the new game engine? You had 5 years to do this!!!
All is not lost, since actual driving seems lot better and smoother. This is hard to explain but cars seem to react way better and you get better sense of what is going on with the car.  I was able to pull of moves that very nearly impossible to do in GT4 (but  relatively easy with real car) and game was pure joy to play with steering wheel and pedals.
I have had time only to finish the first license,  ace few early races (Damn Gambon on Top Gear WW bus challenge) and play around with ~8 cars or so.  Game certaily feels good, even if it does not sound or look that great and I am looking forward of playing this again tomorrow.

List of things to do while GT5 installs

There is optional 8GB install that takes approx.  20 minutes. However at the time of writing this, loading bar and time estimation has been stuck on "Approx. 15 mins. left" for about 10 minutes.

Here is my list what  I did while game installed:

Took a long shower
Started cooking some rice
Booted computer and listened Bombcast  (for 21:01 minutes)
Pondered meaning of life
Checked XBLA sale deals
Ate some oranges
Cleaned kitchen a bit
Drank glass of wine
Made and drank cup of coffee
Stared out of the window into the cold morning for couple of minutes
Wondering why "approx. 45 seconds" takes over 2 minutes
Browse trough morning news
Made one of the most pointless blog entries in a long time

Oh, it is finished! nowwhatdidyouplantodordid+

PS3 is inferior to Xbox 360?

Yes it is... Maybe... No, I'll wait for GT5 before making final judgment, but as it stands now,  Xbox 360 seems like much better gaming console.
I can't understand why the PS3 can't upscale the picture on (some of ?) the games to 1080P, instead of leaving that task for TV. Xbox does this and it works better. Also playstation has nasty habit of switching the sound out put signal from digital stereo to Dolby now and then (like when leaving a game and entering the ps3 desktop screen).

I love PS3 as a blu-ray player but when it comes to gaming, it feels just like there is something wrong with it. It feels like device that can play games but was never intended to do that. I fear that I might have bought Atari Jaguar again...
Exclusives that I have tested so far, have not really impressed me and every multiplatform game I have tested, was better on the 360 (apart from Burnout Paradise). To me it seems clear that PS3 has bigger problems than developers doing bad ports for the system.

Gone full retard, La Li Lu Le Lo and Halo Reach

Yes, I got PS3. I bought it so I could play GT5 with my friends. At evening of same day came news that GT5 is delayed once again - nice!
(Cheap) games I got for it and short opinions about them:

Killzone 2: Looks fantastic, plays OK, story is crap.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Looks fantastic, gameplay to cutscene balance is crap, game is many ways much worse game than other MGS games, writing and plot is horrible - even for MGS game.
Burnout paradise Ultimate edition: Looks OK, VROOM FUN!!!
Overall I am bit disappointed about PS3, 360 just does many things better. Blu-ray player however is really nice addition.

This woman was probably raped and abused by soldiers when she was underage. Now you are taking pictures of her ass before you kill her.

Been playing lot of Halo Reach. Campaign was nothing special but multiplayer is good fun. Some odd disconnects and quits hinder experience now and then, but one major problem is lack of Invasion maps. Why Bungie has not added user made Invasion maps to the playlist is puzzling.

Also, I got Dead Rising 2 Case Zero. Anyone who claims it is not paid demo, deserves kick in the nuts. It is very short and feels like it lacks proper content. DR2C0 however serves as a good reminder that it is wise to wait heavy price drop before you buy this game.  I really do not like that they took away the photographing aspect of the first game away and emphasized on zombie carnage (for me, most boring part of DR was killing zombies).

Bootlegs or not?

I don't know - something tells me that these games are not legit.

Mass Effect did not have full digital nudity or William Shatner. I am so disappointed.

No Halo Reach for me, no ma'am!

Suck it, international shipping! My preorder copy of  Halo Reach is late. I believe this is due to the customs thinking that instead of game, I have ordered  200 grams of smack.  Another explanation is that instead of coming straight from Great Britain to Finland, postal workers decide that  it would be nice if the game would see the world and come to the my house trough London-Paris-Jakarta-Moscow route (just like
my order of MS-points that took 21 days to arrive).

So instead of playing new Halo game, I picked up 3 copies of not so grand games. With price of  ~15$, I got brand new copies of  Wolfenstein, Prototype and Red Faction Guerrilla (all for Xbox360). Go me, sigh.

Playing the Bargain Bin Games

Lately I have been playing some cheap Xbox 360 games since I scored bunch of games ~4.20 euros a piece.
There is The Club, arcade action shooter which I do not like that much, but in the end it is not that bad either.
Lost Planet was another find. Seems like it is OK action game with unique setting.
FaceBreaker is looks like a nice arcade game that is fun with friends. Too bad EA pulled all the online creation and play modes off.
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen feels like OK action title, but I haven't played it enough to be sure.
Then there was Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood which seems to be really good find for less than 5 euros. Seems like solid cowboy shooter.

Also I found Tekken 6 arcade stick bundle for a price of new game (~70 euros, new). Stick is OK, could be better but beats the hell out of Xbox's D-pad. Art book that came with the bundle was not that special and you really have to ask why could it not come with move lists for the character.  Lack this would be not big deal if (it was the normal edition and) the game's practice mode had been designed by somebody with half of brain.
I surprised how much Tekken's mechanics have taken turn for the better. I remain little disappointed about games games graphics and I am still horrified about games plot. Seriously, if at any point in the game that you are making, you find situation where hi-tech fembot gets piledrived by panda bear wearing star goggles and a bra, you should know better than trying to make plot that is serious and with out any humor.
Still, I enjoyed this game a lot.
